Oh my goodness Emily, no one would ever judge you ~ you are doing everything you can for him! I am anxious just watching this! Hang in there! I’m so sorry this is so hard!❤️
Just a suggestion. With my twins we had to remove everything, but the mattress and blankets from their room. Could you rearrange the bedrooms and put Griffen in bedroom by himself?
I also wondered that. Perhaps put Harrison & Sawyer together in the twins room. Then all 3 girls in what has been the "big kids room." That would allow Griffin to be alone. That might be much safer in the long run.
Sleeping on the floor for a little bit won't hurt him, it's like camping.
My son wears braces on his feet for years. We always found new balance best but recently found Billy shoes on amazon. Made for braces. Life changing for us
coralflameRN I was going to suggest to her the same! billyfootwear.com
Griffin is such a beautiful child. You are wonderful parents. I'm in awe at how you handle amazingly difficult situations. Many prayers. 🙏🙏🙄
Griffin new kicks are cool. This sleeping/bed thing is super stressful. Sleeping alone might be the best thing short term. Hugs to you two!!!
What about a handmade sleep sack to fit him, zippered up the back!
Definitely get a sleep sack. And put on backwards. They can’t lift there legs.
When you go out don’t touch the mask with your gloves constantly. It doesn’t help when your touching stuff and then touching your face . I hope you guys all stay healthy .
Some brilliant suggestions here, just want to say you are both amazing & doing all you can do,don’t ever feel bad & think you are being judged,we all just want your life to be as stress free as possible💖
You can still use the crib. Try ordering a crib tent, there a little pricy but he won’t be able to unzip it. He will be stuck in the crib and have enough airflow
Or a small camping tent
Thin cushion foam with a sheet on top would keep his bed close to ground level.
Hi Emily. I just wanted to make a suggestion that might be a solution to keeping Griffin in his bed. I saw this on Pinterest awhile back when I was thinking about having my own children share a small room together. It's a bunk bed from ikea but it's not as tall as regular ones. Basically they gated the lower half so little ones can't climb in and out.
I know you said you don't have a lot of time to build something but I don't think this would be too hard. Here is a link to an example on Pinterest.

Hope this helps! Love watching you and your family!
Great idea 😊
Hi Emily try using a tent cover over ur bed it might help and u should screw the ends shut
So sorry for all that is going one. You and Will are doing your best to keep all your children safe. love and hugs.
Emily, I don’t know if you are aware that Amazon carries “special “ shoes that zip around the sole of shoes. They are made for braces like Griffins. I’m not sure what they are called, but you might do some research and see if they would work for him. I have a friend that is an adult and due to a fall while in the service, damaged both of her ankles. She was just showing us at Halloween how cool they were for her. By they way, you and Will are doing awesome. I cannot begin to imagine the daily struggles you go through! Blessings 🌸
Hi from New Zealand, try swimming pool fencing!
I had a special needs daughter. (she's in Heaven now) She was an escape artist. We only had 2 kids so were able to put her in a room by herself. Mattress on the floor was what worked. We closed the door and would peek in to see how she was getting on. It was so hard sometimes as she was violent. We eventually had to put a lock right up the top of the door, on the outside. Good luck!!! Try not to stress too much. And remember, these kids are really smart and even if you think they don't play you, they do. You don't need to build anything right now. We used large nails and banged them into the floor either side of the gate, so she couldn't move it. Didn't leave marks on the floor, as the carpet hid them. It worked a treat. Until she got older, then we used the lock. It's not being cruel, it's keeping your little guy safe. Make it like a challenge. Yes I know you're tired because it's such hard work. It does get a bit better. Hope this makes sense.
Always praying for your family. You are both doing amazing with everything... You are WONDERFUL!!!!
Prayers being said for you and your family....and much love being sent from Southeastern Wisconsin....🙏🏻💞
Oh my that smart little Griffin!!! Hope and pray u get a better bed for him soon!
I hear ya gurlfriend! We are special parents of kids that are special! Much love, Kelly ♥️
I use braces and as a kid we used high-tops. They are harder to get off, also try getting wide foot shoes makes easier to get the brace actually in the shoe. New balance are good
He is so smart. Love Griffin 🥰
You are gonne figure this out.
Much strenght for you and Will ❤
Is there a way that you could get a U shaped anchor (like they use for electrical conduit or plumbing pipes) and also anchor the sections of gate to the FLOOR so that Griffin cannot pull and reconfigure the "fencing" to allow himself escape? You might need longer screws to anchor into the subfloor through the carpet. That boy is SO determined and SUCH a problem solver!
Ya'll are doing the best job for all of your kids. Dont ever worry about being judged. You both care and love your kids so much... you can see it in the videos. I never comment but I wanted you both to know that ya'll are AMAZING! You both are doing such a great job! ps.. love your videos!
You are amazing parents. You have to do what is safe for the little man.
Kids can sleep on the floor fine. I feel your frustrations cause my daughter has 2 special need kiddos and my son has 1. Sleep is a huge issue for them. I hope you can get him a safe bed soon.
Can you buy a second gate and put it on top of the other and make it impossible for him to get over the top. This way you can keep toddler bed in there and anchor it to wall. And leave him 1 pillow and a small blanket.
I suggest looking up door lever locks on Amazon, then locking the room from the outside and making the room completely injury proof. So mount all furniture or just remove if you can.
You are such a good mom Emily! You love your kids and want the best for them-there is no greater service to God than by being a mother. From one special needs mom to another-keep the faith. ❤️
I would totally get a sleep sack that is his size, I'm sure someone could make one rather easy, and it would keep him from getting his leg up. Maybe do that with him in his crib, and even a crib tent just to be sure he couldnt fall out. Crazy boy!!
Don’t feel bad about him sleeping on the floor! That is totally ok even if it is that way for weeks. What about a sleep sack that is smaller than the usual recommended so he can’t use his legs to climb?
Love when I see your notification❤️Can you get a go fund me happening and order the bed?I don’t know much about it.You have soooo much else on your mind.He needs to be safe and you guys need him sleeping,so you get a sanity break while kids sleep, and you need rest.Praying things get better❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I feel awful that we live in a country that has so much but families like theirs are struggling to get what they need to help their son, heartbreaking!
You two are amazing parents! Him sleeping on the floor is not even bad. It is safe.
Is there a way to screw the bottom of the fencing to the floor. They make curved pieces of metal that might go over the bottom of the fence and you screw on each side a screw into the floor. Another possibility...measure each section of the fence. and then at the hardware place like Home Depot..etc...get 2 by 4's and ask them if they can cut them into pieces...each one the length of panel of fencing. Screw them into the floor and then screw the fencing into the floor and it will raise it about 2 more inches. Could use two layers to make it four inches taller.
I know it is hard. We wish we lived closer cause son said he could build it for you but we are down in GA. Praying for you all. Oh just thought of this. Take one piece of the fencing ..even the gate...to the hardward place and ask them can they show you what you need to bolt the panel down to the floor. They are good about helping.
I have to agree with others. Why not give him the smallest room in the house, empty it of everything except his bed and safely secure the window and door? Move Sawyer in with his other siblings. It’s only for naps and bedtime, and that way Sawyer gets the rest he needs too. Best of luck in a very tough situation! Don’t forget...you’re wonderful!!! ♥️
Can you anchor two gates one higher and one lower like stack them with little space in between. That he can’t go through or under. Then zip tie the top one to the bottom one and keep the bed anchored away from the gates. He needs double bars. Then use a shoe horn. Stay safe wipe and sanitizes everything even Groceries even if they are in plastic spray and wipe them
Crohnie Queen I was going to say the exact same thing!
Suggestion... can you Put screws along the gate, into the floor.. Not all the way in to be a blocker so he cant pull the gate. Maybe on both side so it holds it in place.
Prayers things get better for yous
So sad.. prayers sent for that family... it’s a scary time! My mom has COPD.. I’ve banned her from leaving the house 😞
I like the idea of some sorta bracket to anchor the gate to the floor. I don't know what kind but there has to be something out there.
Did you see the comment from the lady with the 9 year old daughter that has it. She uses bunk beds and it works for her. Worth a try and it makes sense. Good luck honey. Prayers for you guys.
Could you get a second gate to put on top of the one you already have? Use zip ties to hold the two together at every section? Not sure if that is safe or a good options. Just a thought. I've seen people do multiple gates in doorways to keep children out of unsafe spaces.
I have a suggestion 😊
Just put an excercise mat down and his blankets. Kids are so light it doesn’t bother them and it’s only a temporary measure.
About the AFO’s. Bane of my life! My kid is 32 now and still wears them. Other than buying size huge shoes I’ve found that sandals are the best! The kind that adjust to all the way open then fasten in two places 👍much closer to natural shoe size. Usually one size bigger depending on brand. They told us in orthotics he gets enough support from his afo’s. The shoes are just for non slip really.
I’ve even found bootie type slippers with rubber soles that have passed for shoes.
Special needs parents have to become problem solvers and inventors hahaha
My son took seizure meds til he was 5yrs old and we put it in pudding and fed it to him that worked for a bit after awhile we put the pills smashed up and put it in a spoon full of chocolate syrup and that worked to
Watch the Killen Clan...they have had many homemade safe sleep beds. One interesting option they did was take a bunk bed and screw fencing material around it. Still a build project but less work for you all as the bunk beds are already made and the fencing material means not a ton of extra cutting and what not. It shouldn’t be so hard and expensive to get a safe sleep bed for those who so obviously need one.
I wore braces as a kid. get Wide width. and High top. Think Basketball shoe style.
I'm catching up on my watch later videos just now but i had to say, my baby monitor has a part that you can speak into and they can hear in their room, so if he got out his bed i'd say get back to bed and he'd run back again. Wonder if you could get one and tell him to stop it and lay down or something?
Maybe take Will's socks and put it over his hands and just pin it some way to his cloths then he cannot get a grip to help pull him out or over ... hope it helps ... Be safe.
Could you use a form mattress that is about 1 inch thick
The sleep sack plus thin foam for a floor cover for a mattress?
I call my mom every day I am praying for all of you
I know you’re stressed and In fear. I’ve been there and it’s something else but I want to say I love your family ❤️ I choose to sleep on the floor. It doesn’t bother kids but you could also try the mesh baby gates so he could not climb it as easy.
Aww lil stinker. 🤗🤗. My lil escape artist is 17 now, but I use to put these pjs on my son, that buttoned in the crotch area, and they were a little bit tight, so he couldn’t lift his chubby lil leg over the side of the crib! 😂😂🤦🏻♀️. Also, he loved to take his diaper off, and I leaned my lesson with that too.. I would put his zipper pjs on backwards, or put two diapers on, the second one I would put backwards, so the tape was in the back... just some lil tricks to keep them safely in their cribs, and poop of the walls! 😂😂. He’s the only one of my 5 kids that climbed out of the crib or took his diaper off.. He’s the only one of my kids that did a lot of stuff!! I use to tell him he was lucky he was cute!! 🤗💙🤗
You need to get a taller fence. Like one that goes to the ceiling. Poor baby will get some rest when he figures out he can’t climb to the ceiling. And so will Moma and Daddy.
A yoga mat folded in half makes a pretty comfy toddler cot in a temporary situation! Until you guys can figure a safer way for griffin!
Do you have any room in the house you could out him in? I would so anything I could to give him his own room. Clear it out completely and lick the door (keep the camara of course!)
Is there a support group in your area that could help build a safe bed Or screw the baby gate to the floor so he can’t move it. I know this is hard but don’t feel bad that he sleeping on the floor he’s safe there at night. My kids always crawled out of bed and slept in the floor. You guys are doing so great as parents god bless
I agree I came here to say anchor the gate to the floor.
Do you think hi tops like converse would work better? Just a thought. Good luck.
Maybe try some high top converse? With ties he might not be able to get them off. Stay safe and I’m thinking of you mama
Did you take the inner sole out of the shoe. Maybe it will make it easyer. Can you anker the gate to the floor.
What about a zippered canopy for the crib.
She's said a few videos ago that won't work because he can reach it and tear it down.
Screen door from Lowes? With wire mesh opening?
Can u make the gate taller? Get the same gate u have and anchor it to the wall above that one. So one on top of another. Use zip ties to hold both together where they meet. I hope this makes sense..lol kinda like a giant gate. Height wise..hope this helps!!
What if you guys got another baby gate and stack it on top of the other one? It would make it so he cant climb over
Have you tried moving his seizure meds later to time the fatigue with his bedtime?
The struggle is real. Don't judge you at all .Take care and stay safe ❤❤
What about a crib tent. Check them out on amazon.
Bungee cord the mattress to the crib and put boards around the bottom of the crib where he crawled out.
Can you drill the gate into the floor I know its not ideal but he wont beable to move the gate
Aw Emily I am feeling for you. You have to be exhausted but I see a comment below about tieing two gates on top of each other. If you can figure it out it might work. Or go to the fencing and see what they have that might work. I am not kidding. Or maybe a top for the gate. No judgement he has to be safe. The sleep sack is a good idea to.
I have a special needs kid with a trach refusing to stay in his bed. We are looking in to a canopy bed it will block him and keep him safe. Ins help pay for it. let me know if they suggested that or not
I feel so Sorry for you guys.
I have a question; Who is older, Griifin ot Sawyer?
What about another gate on top of the one u already have?
Kohl’s sells 1” or 2” mattress pad?? Maybe?
Emily. Try some Tie up Hiking boots for Griffin.
I had a friend who loves taking his AFOs off
hightops work better and harder to get off. And that’s a 16-year-old boy
can you anchor the gate to the floor somehow?
Just curious not critical but can he learn to stay in bed like daddy or mom come in every time he gets out of bed and put him back? I know it’s rough but he is smart ( hence you can’t get him to stay in bed) so try reenforcement , maybe. Good luck - your good parents you will find a way
I feel so bad for you guys! If we lived anywhere near you I would have my husband build something for him! ☹️
How about a second gate above that one?
What about a bed tent? Target for shoes?
Amazon has bestmart house frame toddler bed, Add some wood picket fencing or vinyl fencing and screw bed to wall. Maybe use gate latches at bottom end of bed to create a gate for entry. repeat this mantra, I will not be overcome.
Crib Tent Alternative | Anti-Climb Toddler Pajamas to Keep Your Toddler from Climbing Out of Crib
Good shoes for AFOs are Nike Flyease
What if while in the house, just put the brace on and put a sock over them, just to get him use to wearing the brace. Maybe with the shoe on is to tight and to awkward on him right now.
You should’ve tried to put the gate at Sawyer’s bed
Maybe the problem is that he wants to have the room for himself. Otherwise, don't give up. You're doing the best you can as a mom.
Nobodies going to judge you Griffin is the work of 6 kids all by himself and you're trying so hard. Do you have access to respite care? I worked in a centre where kids with special needs would come and stay for the weekend, and week whatever was needed to give families a break. There was also the option of families coming and staying all therapists were on site we had an organic gardening that provided the fruit and vegetables for the kitchen. I'm in Scotland and I hate to see how hard you have to fight for everything you need. These things are not a luxury they're to keep Griffin safe and give you guys peace of mind. Sending love your way x
Emily, please start a go fund me....the ppl that can help, with the purchase of whatever bed you deem will keep Griffin safe, will chip in...I can help if you will start a go fund me!!! Please do it!
My husband works in Elmhurst Hospital, the worst hit with this pandemic....is really bad....take every precaution: 😷, hand hygiene and social distancing....
Stay safe and hunker down!
Attach the gate to the floor so he can’t move it
Praying for you to have strength to endure.
THIS IS A TESTIMONIAL ON THE LINK BELOW ABOUT THE SAFEPLACE BEDDING: Just listen to what one family had to say about it:
“Our daughter Addie has Angelman Syndrome and turned 12 years old yesterday. So far, she has broken and damaged every “safe” bed we have ever bought for her. Including the wooden Sleep Safe bed and the metal frame Safety Sleeper. The wooden bed she ripped the clear, plastic, screwed in windows out and pulled the non-chew strips off. The metal-framed bed she pulled the pads off and tore the zippers out. We LOVE to travel and race triathlons with our daughter. But travel is becoming increasingly difficult without a safe place for her to sleep.”
For the braces size up and wide
Double stack the gate :)
Hi Emily try taking your clothes off and putting them in the washer when you guys go out. Also, take a bath because it could stay in your hair. I know it sounds like a lot, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Also, Griffin is so cute with his mischievous little smile. 🤗
Get a higher gate or put one ontop of the one u habe
U need a pair of shoes that zip up the back
