    That's a lucky kid here !
I had nine surgeries in my whole life. Six of them took place when I was under 9 years old.
For two if these, I was a toddler. My parents were NEVER allowed to come with me. I was left alone in the OR, shivering from cold and anxiety (because it's really cold in the OR). None of the medical staff was talking with me, no emotional support, while I was breathing faster and faster. I was never allowed to bring a toy with me. No numbing cream, no teddy bear band-aids either. No warm blanket. I was undressed, vulnerable and terrified. I would always cooperate though.
At one point, the anesthesist poked a needle in my hand without even saying hello, and I felt a burning sensation in my hand. I thought something wrong was happening, so I tried to talk to him, but he pushed the mask on my face and held it, saying "shhhht". There was just a smell of plastic, no good taste. And then I was out.
I woke up in pain, wondering what just happened, and still nobody would provide any reassurance. No "good job !". Nothing.
Nobody took the time to explain anything or reassure me.
I'm grateful for their job and the fact that they did the surgeries properly. But sometimes, I still experience nightmares of these moments.

@@spookpatchy Yes, this particular doctor was kind of ... cold 😅😅 But he was not the only one. I've met a LOT of doctors and I feel like many of them are good at saving or healing people (which is what we want them to do!) but not that great at reassuring or distracting kids. And also, I grew up with (and still have) many health issues due to genetic disorders, so many doctors thought : "It's okay, she's been through worse anyway, she's used to this, now. Let's treat her like an adult."
I remember the surgeon After the the surgery I described before. I had just been through a 8hours jaw surgery that evolved breaking my whole upper jaw and lower jaw to place screws and different stuff in my Bones... Anyway... My face was swollen and bruised like I had been in the worst fight ever and was beaten up 😅 and he was pressing his fingers on my face, trying to feel my bones through the swelling and bruises (I Guess). Like ... Hey Doc, it actually hurts 😅🥹

When the doctors put you under anesthesia, they tell you to count down, and after 10 seconds, you're like, "What? It's nothing serious." Then, all of a sudden, the world turns black. If you blink, the surgery is over. How long your eyes slowly close will vary from person to person, but when I was 7, it happened to me.

So I've had many operations in my life. One of them was when I was six years old. It was a soft palate operation. I was born with a cleft lip, and cleft palate as well as many other conditions. Due to my life in and out of hospitals, I was always interested in the equipment used. Well in the hospital that Monday morning, I woke up and was playing with the suction system on the wall. The container was empty, and there was clean tubing on the regulator, so it wasn't contaminated equipment obviously. They took me to Preop and I remember I was sitting on Mom's lap, and the anesthesiologist came to hook me up to the pulse oximeter, (The device with the red light on it). NOW I LOVE THOSE!!! Always have! ALWAYS WILL!!! So I was sitting there stairing at the light, and I'm legally blind, and can see very little, so I was holding this probe up near my eye to see it. Mom was singing me "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Raindeer!" All the while I'm enjoying myself looking at the pulse oximeter's red light on my finger. And when the Anesthesiologist came to see me, What do I ask? "Is there a suction machine where you're taking me?" I kid you not! I had a massive fascination with those. LOL! I asked him, and he said "We do." I thought I could go back there and play with it before surgery. I was given some Versed most likely because I have no memory of going back there, only a very dim memory of being on the operating table. Next thing I know was sitting up in recovery, and the nurse told me to lie back down, and then I went down a hallway to my room, and heard my IV pump beeping on the way down to my room. I don't remember actually entering my hospital room, but do remember the croup tent they put me in later, as I wanted to know what the hissing sound was. And I always wanted to know about those since then, and finally saw one and got in one in 2017, when a Respiratory Therapist took me to the hospital to see one. I had always thought that blue corrugated tubing went into those tents, but BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! I was WRONG BIG TIME!!! The hoses they put in the croup tent are VERY large bore. I also had quite the fascination with the operation of the Blood Pressure Monitor that they checked my blood pressure with. So surgery being nerve wracking to me? NO!!! NOT AT ALL!!!

When I was born, I had a bad left foot, at 13 yrs, I had surgery and that fixed it quite a lot, I had to have stitches in the scars, but I’m all healed. I even broke the bone on my left pointer finger playing basketball at school, I had to have it temporarily attached to my left middle finger to heal and it’s healed. And for foot surgery, I had to be put under anaesthesia. And also for foot surgery, my mom stayed with me until the next day, that Saturday I went home.

Wow been a while since I checked in. Seems like this video got some views and likes. Really appreciate it everyone! This was my first time making a medical 360 experience so had a ton to learn. A few realizations: yes the boy becomes a dummy. This was intentional as I couldn’t put the camera into Josh’s head. Probably wouldn’t be given a stuffed animal dog unless by your parent. Thirdly - I think y’all are awesome for watching! Cheers!

I recall having my first surgery in a hospital when I was 25. I was frightened when I learned I would have an IV, and therefore I was spooked. I had never been given an IV. In the OR, I was able to get on the operating table while the doctors and such were making preparations for my surgery. They allowed me to listen to the music on my iPod in the OR (as the sound of medical devices are prone to freaking me out) - and I also had my Chococat plush who was dressed in khaki pants and a lab coat. Hearing “pick out your favorite dream” reminded me of what I wanted to dream about during my surgery in 2011 - and I wanted to dream about Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Already been said, but please don’t worry about it. Speaking from experience, I was very nervous/scared about it too, but it’s nothing you should worry about. It’s a weird thought, I know. But trust me, with the anesthesia, for you it’s like the operation never happened. You’re lating there, get the anesthesia, then eventually after some time you’ll see nothing (and I mean nothing, not even darkness, nothing.), then what feels like only a few seconds later you wake up. Hope that helps!

I just had my first surgery for a ligament reconstruction and I was literally terrified, and even that is a understatement. I had no idea what was going to happen and I was scared if I was going to wake up while it was happening or if I wasn't going to wake up at all. But when they took me back to the OR, I was still really scared and they already gave me a IV beforehand so I was feeling really fuzzy too, which is probably why I can't remember anything from that day, except holding a doctor's hand, feeling her rubbing mine with hers, breathing in that mask and that was it. You don't feel it when u go to sleep, it's like a really crazyily smooth transition and then it was over and I woke up
