The book series is called 'A Song of Ice and Fire.' It's literally a story about Targaryens and Starks. But everyone takes it on face value to condemn Rhaegor and Lyanna for fulfilling a prophesy that no one really understands yet because there's still two books left. Everyone has a pretty good indication of Rhaegar's motivations and his obsessions with the prophesy. But no one yet knows of Lyanna's motivations so they assume she was 'manipulated' where her innocence was taken advantage. Lyanna is often compared to Arya not Sansa.

Don't think you know anything. Adultery is cheating when married. And what makes Lyanna a hypocrite for not wanting to be with a whoremonger. Only a hypocrite if she does the same. Yet she decides to be with one man nor does she break any marriage vows. If your argument is that Rhaegar was a married man. Lyanna could've been a second wife as Targaryen custom. Something that's frowned upon by Westerosi law. So was Targaryen incest, which is why the faith militant rose up in rebellion but lost so they ended up accepting the tradition as an exception for Targaryen rule. @@jollyfighter7319

So benjen joins the watch to cover his orientation, not bring dishonor to his family, while trying to make amends for the deaths of his family members and all those soldiers that lost their lives.

It's weird that people will celebrate Lyanna running off with Rhaegar.
As nobility one of the few and possibly the greatest responsibility you have is to get married to the right person. It's so incredibly irresponsible to run off with someone just because you like them. Hundreds of thousands of peoples lives are depending on you, you get to live in luxury compared to the people under you and in return you maybe have to marry someone you don't love.
Instead she decided to run off plunging the entire continent into war, costing hundreds of thousands of lives and getting killed in the process...
If I were Ned I'd be absolutely furious...

@@karinaashmonthat's a simplistic and incorrect analysis of the events
      1. Robert didn't know that Lyanna ran off and wasn't kidnapped, no one knew besides Benjen, who kept it a secret for too long, by which point Robert was already on a war path
      2. Everyone hated Aerys. He was insane, used to randomly burn people to death and was just all round a terrible ruler.
      3. Rhegar was planning on overthrowing Aerys, which would likely have still happened had Lyanna not interfered.
      4. Rhegar was a much better ruler, at least as in him not being insane. If he has organised a rebellion he likely would have been able to get rid of Aerys without any war, since Aerys didn't suspect him and anyone still loyal to Aerys would have also been loyal to him
So yes, without Lyanna running off and Benjen helping her and keeping it a secret, no war.

If Ned was already willing to go so far for Lyanna and Rhaegar, I highly doubt he would have punished the man who brought them together. Especially if that man was his lilbro. Oh I always thought Ned had intended to send John to the nights watch. So I thought he sent Benjin there to watch over John when he joins up.
Though I also believe qhorin half hand is Arthur Dayne. He made a deal with Ned to look after John in nights watch.
That way Benjin could make sure qhorin never influences john to try and raise up the Lords of the South leading to another civil war.
Ned when John was born didn't know what John would be like so he needed someone he trusted to look after John.
Also to make sure nobody tried to Influence John.

I think Ned and Benjen, through their friendship with Howland Reed, know something about the Others and The Prince That Was Promised. I think Lyanna knew even more because of her association with Rhaegar. People assume that Ned's promise to Lyanna was that he would keep Jon safe. I don't think that's what she asked. I think she made Ned promise to put Jon on the throne, as he was Rhaegar's heir, Lyanna knew about the Targaryen prophecy, and she wanted Jon to save the realm. I think Benjen went to The Wall to keep an eye out for The Others, because he, Howland, and Ned all had secret information that they were on their way.

Robert thought LyannA loved him but lyanna didn't have the spine to tell Robert that she didn't love Robert because he was a playboy and she wanted to elope with a married man who had 2 kids. She ran away despite being betrothed to Robert.
Her actions cost her father and brother their lives, her actions caused the death of Rhaegar and his kids, she caused Elia Martell's brutal rape and murder, her actions caused the realm to bathe in Westerosi blood.
All of this happened because Rhaegar couldn't keep it in his pants and lyanna couldn't keep her legs closed.

theres a theory that rhaegar could have actually kidnapped or somehow used his dreams of the prince that was promise to convince or cohorse lyanna into having a child together, and its all based on the fact that lyanna and arya are supposed to be parallels to each other, like ned once even said that arya is literally the same as her aunt, so think about it, would arya run away with a prince to bare children and give up her dream of being a knight? and just become a lady? hell nah, I think something fishier is going on, also remember that people say that rhaegar became weird after learning about the prophesy and such

    • @PinkGrapefruit22
      @PinkGrapefruit22 9 місяців тому +12

Rhaegar was an adult and Lyanna was 14-15 years old when she disappeared. Rhaegar was crown prince, and Lyanna was a teenage girl in a feudal patriarchal society. I'm sure she felt a ton of guilt for what resulted from their liaison, but are you really going to pretend that she had an equal amount of control over the situation to Rhaegar? Even if she left with him willingly and with full knowledge of what he had planned for her (ie, becoming the vessel for his prophecy baby)--and let's be clear that we still have no idea exactly what Lyanna did or didn't know and what she did or didn't choose to do--she's still a teen being used by a much older man who has far more social and political power than she does. Rhaegar carries far more blame for everything that happened because he had far more power throughout their relationship than Lyanna did.

I don't think Rhegar was Horny, I think he got the dragon dreams and lore in his head (mad targaryen). He probably did more manipulating, and probably didn't truly love her, more saw her as part of dream he had.

You really think that's so simple? Don't believe everything the show told you, Rhaegar didn't just want Lyanna, he wanted to create the prince that was promised. And Lyanna was like 16. Most 16 year olds would run away with the person they're infatuated with.

  • @sylviahoward1065

Idk I think he joined the watch due to Bloodravens influence. I think the whole northern plotline, while very much influenced by Rhaegar and Lyanna, is much more influenced by the war against the others. If and when Benjen does appear again, I think it would be cool if he confirms R+L=J to Jon when hes resurrected but I think its more likely he's gonna run into Bran and reveal more Children of the Forest and war against the others information.

How’s about Ned having let him know that Jon was really Brandon’s son by Ashara Dayne (who might even be legitimate, assuming Brandon at some point could’ve wrapped a cloak around her in front of a heart tree)?
If Benjen heard/figured that Jon was really Lyanna’s child (by Rhaegar), the best way of making amends - most of all to her - would be in helping to protect Jon, which he could’ve done a better job of if he’d stayed at Winterfell.
Most likely, he left because of some disagreement with Ned. It’s more plausible they would’ve had a disagreement if Ned was seen (by Benjen) to be passing over Jon - by making him out to be his own illegitimate son - in favour of his children by Catelyn.

Lyanna wasn't the knight of the laughing tree though. The knight was said to have a booming voice so id say its most likely Ned. • @nickdentoom1173

tbh, the booming voice was actually due to the amor.
Now, i don't think it was Lyanna.
I think it was Howland Reed, but Lyanna provided him with the armor and the other equipment, so she was in on it 100%, That might also have been one of the reasons for Howland to go with Ned to the Tower of Joy, because he was as equally as pissed as the Starks for what happened to Lyanna, since otherwise, its pretty odd for him to go with Ned, since Howland isn't a fighter.

Bullshit. Anyone who thinks that a tiny 14 year old girl who rode at rings, could unhorse “champion” knights understands precisely nothing about jousting. Tilting at a quintain requires armor and is the way jousters actually train, it’s never mentioned that she ever did anything of the sort. Horsemanship is definitely required, so is strength, and experience is most important. Hitting boys with a tourney sword is NOT jousting against knights. If George says it was Lyanna, then it would be canonically correct, but still ridiculous.
