It's rare that someone mentions the genius of Adam Jones. This song is some of this best work. The solo in Rosetta is mind bending. He is one of the most creative guitar players to ever exist. There is literally no one right now even on this guy's level.

This particular song just has insane depth , musically , emotionally and lyrically , and i mean beyond the obvious usage of drugs , its so much about the psychology and a reaction of someone trying to find some meaning or truth behind it and how much those thoughts can reveal to you insecurities or strengths and the list keeps on going. When i first heard of this song , I thought to myself this is literally the closest to someone can verbally explain the madness that is tripping , tip-toeing on that makes sense but it doesn't. You can vicariously experience the trip.

This song is one of tools best songs in my opinion. It has EVERYTHING we like from tool, excellent musicianship, witty humour, and some form of message that lies just under the surface that you kind of need to dig a bit to find. This is definitely one of the most complicated songs theyve written musically too, but its so well written it doesnt even feel that complex. It flows perfectly even though its packed to the brim with polymeter and polyrhythm. Just an absolute work of art and to me its one of the crown jewels of this band.
I can’t listen to too many other tool songs with the same level of excitement as this song. I’ve been a tool fan for over 20 years and I’ve just recently discovered how much I actually like this song.

Josh Moore I mean even in 7empest he’s hyper conserved and doesn’t do anything crazy. Never breaks out into shredding, which is good for Tool. Just saying, a standout guitar song for Tool isn’t as intense as your average power metal showpiece. Not a criticism, just an observation.

You get deep into subjects like chaos theory and determinism for example which seems oddly familiar to God and Free Will if you think about it. Multiverse theory... That's another talking point you can spend days discussing. One take away is most people, not all but most come away with a distinct and very real feeling of an eternal soul. He’s talking about an acid trip gone wrong, out in the desert by Nellis Air Force Base, which contains Area 51. He says “it must’ve been the dead head chemistry, the blotter got right on top of me.” Dead head chemistry is a reference to LSD and how Grateful Dead fans, also referred to as Dead heads, would manufacture and use LSD quite often. A blotter is the “tiny stamps” that are used to dose LSD.

I saw Tool supporting this album in 2005. They were soooo good I forgave them for not playing "The Pot" or a single song from the Undertow album, even "Sober". I just have so much respect and admiration for all four of these guys. Incredible band! They did play this, and it was incredible. I could barely see Maynards silhouette next to the drums. He never had a light put on him the whole show.

the song is about an actual experience that a friend of the band had. he apparently headed out into the desert and when he came back to the guys he told them the story about what had happened to him, so they wrote the song a few years later. I saw Tool supporting this album in 2005. They were soooo good I forgave them for not playing "The Pot" or a single song from the Undertow album, even "Sober". I just have so much respect and admiration for all four of these guys. Incredible band! They did play this, and it was incredible. I could barely see Maynards silhouette next to the drums. He never had a light put on him the whole show.

I like to think that both things you suggested happened in this song; he was tripping balls and during his trip the abduction happened.
