Yep, definitely use a step drill bit on that next time you’re drilling thin sheet metal. Great job kiddo!

It truly can't be considered a "project" until you get frustrated at least a dozen times.... lol Great job on the install.

I think a small maybe velvet trim glued to the back of the bezel to fill that space 🤔, might look smooth. Tiny rectangle. Or something

Nice radio options now. When I installed a new radio with cassette in my 1964 Falcon Futura in 1978 they didn't have this and I had to hack up my dash to get the radio to fit

Ellie, Two observations as I'm in the process of installing the Redondo in my 64 with the plastic bezel dash. I noticed that you sanded down the side of the buttons but mine are chrome so I couldn't do that without seeing the chrome was removed. Also I noticed the bracket that came with the kit still had the lower mounting holes (where the buttons screw to) which moves the buttons out further. So I called retro and they said only the buttons needed to be sticking out of the bezel not the button housing and also he thought the extended mounting tab needed to be removed which I did. Not sure of the opening on the 65 bezel but I would have to remove between 3/16 and 1/4" of plastic for it to fit thru. I bring this up because there might be others with a 64 that want to use this radio and if there is a difference they could see before ordering the chrome version and they can read this after watching your video. Thanks!

Whenever i drill a bracket or any piece of metal i always have an old piece of wood handy which i put the bracket on and clamp the whole lot into the vice and then you can drill through into the wood and it stops the bracket from bending. Keep up the good work . The Falcon is looking fantastic .

Ellie - I just stumbled on your channel because I’m building a turbo’d 250 for my Falcon.
You’re learning great skills! I started sweeping floors in an autoshop in 5th grade and by 6th grade was working as a mechanic.
This early start led to college and an engineering degree. You’re getting some great experience that you can build on for the rest of your life!
I’ll be waiting and watching for you to do great things in the future!

Nice job on that. I would've used a radio like that in my Falcon, but before I got it someone hacked a big hole in the dash. I made a trim piece to cover the hole and used that to mount a regular stereo. Not as good, but it works and it looks better than a big hole. The main advantage is the radio slides in through the front so I don't have to get behind it.

Hi Ellis. I would like to install an am fm radio in my 1965 Futura. But I can't remove the bezel. I removed the screws from the top but there is something holding it at the bottom. How did you remove the bezel?
    Thank you
    Bob

    • @ElliesGarage
      @ElliesGarage  2 роки тому

Hello, Bob. I believe there are some plastic studs on the bottom of the radio bezel that have some of those thin, flat nuts that thread on the back. I think we were able to access them by reaching around from the glove box side or maybe reaching up from under the bottom side of the dash. I hope we're remembering that right and that it helps.

@@ElliesGarage Hi again Ellie. I got the bezel off. Thank you. Now I am having trouble picking a radio that will fit with the bezel. I am looking at different radios. I am looking at the USA230, USA630 and the USA740. some sellers say they will not fit. Some say they will fit. I looked at the Retro radios and there are so many and they don't say if the radios will fit. What model radio did you get?
      Thank you

@@jamesdizerega2918 Actually, they're CRAZY functional. Depending on the mode they do different things. For Radio, they're your channel memory stations, for Bluetooth you can skip, play, pause with them. It's really a great setup. One of my favorite things about Carl.

I just got a retro sound radio for my 68 mustang but every time I accelerate or at random times the bluetooth either cuts off or the stereo turns off. It’s frustrating I can’t figure out what it is! And then i see smoke coming from under my car. I wonder if it’s a fuse? Any ideas of what if could be 🥲
