    I've found it really hard to summarize how I feel about the chances of AI putting us out of the job. While it's important to stay aware of the technology, look out for each other, and ensure we're not signing our careers away, the idea that we're so replaceable seems to fly in the face of the first thing we learn in this industry: voice acting isn't just reading in a nice voice. Genuine connection wins every time.

    As a digital artist who was concerned about the use of AI for quite some time, I feel like this applies to the other arts as well, be it voice acting, singing, painting, writing et cetera.
    Find your community, focus on your strengths (and unique styles if you're an visual artist) and be mindful when it comes to contracts.
    Well said, Joe!! Very well said and so very true!

    Thanks for making this video! As a hobbyist VA who might get too eager at any prospect of paid work, it's good for me to keep these things in mind. However, I don't see the NAVA Rider linked in the description, as mentioned at 3:23. Could you update that, or is it included in one of the other links?

    First two talking points sorta go hand-in-hand.
    Case-in-point, the legal hot water Adobe is now in came as a result of patient content creators not only reading the entire 40+ page "Terms & Conditions" legal word salad, but then escalating a complaint against the (alleged) predatory practices through their community.

    thanks for the videos, joe - this one's fantastic in quality and pacing! i agree that AI won't be able to replace the authenticity of a good voice actor, so i actually feel empowered to practice and grow my skills by this kind of thing. beat em with genuine humanity everyone, we can't let robots pretend to be us and get away with it

    Haven’t watched the video yet so this question is probably unrelated, but do you think learning how to voice act at 14 is a good idea? I’ve been wanting to voice act for a while and I have no idea where to start but I would like to begin soon.

    I think the major thing that will always put AI work on the bottom, is human value. People generally have a negative reaction when facing something created by an AI in an official product (like magazine covers, video games etc...). There's also the fact that when presented two products of the same quality, one human-made and one ai-made, the latter one will be rejected because even though it's of the same quality, when hearing that it's a robot that made the thing based on calculation and reproduction with no artistic thought behind will make the person less likely to choose the ai product.

    • @Eric-zx2wk
      @Eric-zx2wk Місяць тому +1

      I disagree.
      I think we don’t actually care. There may be some initial adjustment, but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. I would have loved for them to have used AI to give us more than four extremely similar sounding player voices per gender in BG3, for example.
      In fact, there’s mods that (poorly, as yet) add AI voices to the game and are a step in the right direction.

    • @ArimarJ
      @ArimarJ Місяць тому +1

      @@Eric-zx2wk I was talking in a more general way, as for voice acting, I think AI would suit well minor NPCs, but major NPCs should still be human made, because if we put AI in major NPCs, then not only do we remove the excellent voice actors, but also the people who need to write the lines. Also, it removes the dedication an actor puts in his role, an AI will not improvise, it will only do what we tell it to do, therefore it won't bring up alternatives to a line. Replacing actors by AI is removing the heart and soul put into bringing a character to life, while removing the feedback the actor might give to the producer to change and improve the character.

      @@ArimarJSo you are saying that ai are not good enough, but that is just a matter of time before they are going to be.

    • @ArimarJ
      @ArimarJ 28 днів тому

      @@andreavolpi5131 I'm not saying ai aren't good enough, I'm saying that if ai were to make something as good as something made by real people, we wouldn't put as much value in it as something human-made. would you prefer to see videos, hear music, and read books that are entirely generated by AI or made by a human who spent time making it?

    • @andreavolpi5131
      @andreavolpi5131 28 днів тому

      @@ArimarJ I would want the best work. And so would people in general.
      We could also say a similar thing for other products: would people prefer them to be build by adults with some rights and reasonably paid or some children in some third world country paid almost nothing working in bad conditions? The answer is that people don't care. The just want the best product at the lowest price.

    I do some, but I am not totally into it. I do it for hobby reasons and tried everything to throw spaghetti at a wall and make it stick. This one just ain't it because I ain't motivated. I personally am not worried about it since a machine doesn't understand context and most people use AI voice over as like a sketch of an idea the client has right now. Anyways, I have been on certain sites that are happy about it just because of this and I'm gonna be real and tell it like it is how I feel about it and the pro VAs in the industry. I'm mostly approaching this as an anime fan and a customer, so view it in this way. So, do not get offended and the zoomers don't get offended. I don't like to fight and argue, but since you have a UA-cam presence, Imma vent since I watch MHA, but don't watch the dubs no more. Here's why and please keep an open mind. I have real beef with VAs and how they presented themselves online mostly because after the Vic Mignogna incident. I'm sorry, I don't think he's guilty. But it left a bad taste in my mouth because of the leftist harpy screeching I've seen on Twitter from you and several of your co stars (VAs) that seem very unapproachable or unrelatable. I want to have fun and...*sigh* just read the dang blog I posted. Again, I hate fighting and political feathers and moral differences seems to go into the grey area, and I get anxiety attacks over that. Then I shut down and don't talk to people. I feel like y'all pandering to zoomers (and I'm around the same age as you if younger) by enabling irrational type behavior to make a buck really affected y'alls industry. I got back into anime after dealing with the recession in the early 2010s so, it was a shock to my system to see y'all's post and I'm like y'all need to have your phones taken away (and some dumb ass kids under the age of 18 need to not have a phone.) Hence, why some people in a small corner of the internet are happy to see AI replacing y'all. So, here is my take on what I dealt with throughout my years and how all the Dragonball Super: Broly stuff cancellation really affected me deeply. If you take the time to read it, thank you. I had to open up and be real in this blog with a lot of y'all.
    sisterhipsterartist.wordpress.com/2023/07/11/career-journey/
    I really want pros to really act more professional and less politically spergy and not be drama. First ammendment or no, I don't care. It's unprofessional, antagonistic, and doesn't make y'all look smart. I want my escapism not be tampered with nor the illusion of the character be ruined. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk and the amount of brain cells used to read this wordburger.

    oh my gosh, I was fully engaged in what you had to say until your comment about how simulation has not destroyed an industry and then you referred to the music industry as an example. You need to rethink that one unless you purposely planted it to generate comments on your post. Music has been destroyed by simulation of instruments, vocals, programming, production, etc. Automation wholly and completely removes all the heart and soul that artistry - communication - is born from and further serves as what connects people - a genuine communication that comes from somewhere that words cannot convey and that machines will never be able to simulate. Regardless, machines are taking over and we are losing access to an essence that has kept humanity connected on a level that is impenetrable. If you're of the generation that has only known machines, you'll never understand - you'll only know the longing for something that you can't put your finger on and then identify some mental or emotional disorder as the result of it.
