A note on meeting: Yes, it means seeing someone for the first time. However, it also means to just meet as demonstrated in this example which I have taken from Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English: My dad met us at the station. In this example, the father has not met his children for the first time at the station.

But in that situation, you're playing some sports that is different.
