That's exactly what they are doing. They bond with them as pups, so when they get older, they guide the wolfs to prey, and feed off the scraps. Fucking smart birds.
I like to think that as the raven hopped about training the pups it sang a dark Disney style song about all the challenges the pups will face as they grow older but reminding them to always look to the sky where the ravens fly, then they will never be lost.
Apparently the crows care for the pups by playing with them and leading them to food, usually a carcass, allowing the mother to handle other matters, such as fortifying the den, marking territory to ward off competitors, or simply hunting for herself.
You know, you could make a strong case that ravens are in stone-age equivalent stage of civilization development and they are training wolves just like we did.
Some kinds even use simple tools. They modify sticks and twigs into hooks and use them to catch grubs. They can even improve on their hook designs, and even teach their designs to others. Now all they need is to learn fire and they can advance to the next age lol
It doesn't really count as civilization though because ravens don't have a permanent residence or have agriculture. In human terms they would be nomadic hunter gatherers, not exactly on any path towards civilization.
Technically they had this symbiotic relationship hundreds of thousands of years before our species existed so if anything we’re the new raven and wolves lol
I've read that ravens are known to play with wolf pups like this, encouraging them to chase them Wolves and ravens have a very interesting mutually beneficial relationship
They're not running/flying they're playing with / taunting the wolf pups. Notice how the raven doesn't simply fly off, it occasionally hops out of the way as if to say "I'm over here now, come and get me"
These damn birds are literally a few evolutions away from becoming sentient. They have the capability to talk as they mimic sounds they hear down to human speech all it'll take is just a little change in their brains.
They’re probably already sentient when you consider all the problem solving observed in the wild and in experiments. What is your benchmark for sentience
I like to think it’s the raven trying to get the pups to be better at stealth, like play fighting but since the raven would get torn to shreds it’s more of like tag with red-light green-light
For those that don't understand: Ravens and Wolves are very close friends. Raven often play the pups to keep them entertained and train them to hunt. Ravens have even been seen playing tug of war with sticks with the wolf pups. As the wolves grow up, the ravens stay with them.
They need to make a Movie about this... as long as PETA, Wokester, Disney, #SJW , and other haters stay out of it it would be an awsome movie #OscarWorthy #Wolves #Ravens #Bros
Ravens are mostly scavengers, on the rare occasion when they do hunt, it's small prey, like insects, and allegedly small rodents, though I honestly have never witnessed this behavior myself, and there are ravens everywhere around my house and nesting in my giant Colorado blue spruce trees. I see them interacting patiently and even playfully with crows, mischievous squirrels, and rabbits. I've only seen them peck at the lawns every morning and evening for insects, and they'll "take care of" the occasional unfortunate fallen critter that was either killed by a cat, hit by a car or flew into a large house window, but never anything alive. I've been observing then for years, long enough to know the so-called "experts" are wrong far more often than not about the behavior and habits of ravens. The only animosity i've witnessed was between ravens and blue jays or grackles. Grackles are the biggest threat by far, i've seen them grab small birds right out of the air with their claws and kill them right in front of my eyes! It's no wonder the ravens chase them away. I've seen ravens relentlessly chase a few aggressive blue jays out of the tree in front of my house because they were trying to knock the raven's nest over so that's completely understandable, (I watched those three ravens build that nest twig by twig, so I know it was their nest, not the blue jays'). Anyway, a raven would never attempt to kill a wolf pup, it's far too large, and more importantly attacking a wolf pup right in front of its pack would be beyond stupid, and ravens are anything but. They are likely leading the wolves to prey, so the wolves can kill and eat the animal, and the ravens can enjoy the leftovers. Many ravens and wolves enjoy this type of sophisticated and intelligent symbiotic relationship. Both are truly amazing creatures.
In the Disney movie, when the raven hops up onto the white rock, he definitely gives a wise, philosophical speech to those two pups.
Ah yes, I remember the same kind of movie, except its with two lion cubs and an english-bird

That is because it is actually watching the wolfs pups to keep them safe. Also they are ravens, not crows.

They can also solve complex problems like getting a walnut to crack by letting cars run over it in a road, then eating it when the traffic stops.
