The reason high dose radiation exposure is fatal is because it causes your chromosomes, which are the proteins in all of your cells that carry your DNA, to lose their structure. This basically causes your body to become unable to generate new cells because the box that holds their blueprints for making new cells just got chucked in a blender. Your cells decay as always but there's nothing there to replace them. You lose about 330 billion cells a day, which typically have their replacements ready to go when they die. While not all cells expire at the same rate, your body is a set of interlinked systems which all depend of each other. Take one part of a system out and it falls apart quickly. Your skin would likely appear damaged first since it's cells are replaced more frequently. With internal tissue exposed due to no barrier, infection would probably set in quickly. This will cause necrosis fairly fast in the remaining living cells on your skin. All the while your internal organs are also failing. Your bones aren't producing anymore blood and the blood you have isn't being sufficiently reoxidised by your heart leading to cell death. Radiation poisoning is a horrific way to go, your bones basically keep your silhouette as your body turns into soup.
thank you for the explanation, ive never understood exactly how radiation poisoning destroyed the body until your comment and super appreciate the clarification
Truly a horrific way to die. It’s like dementia taken to the extreme. Instead of your brain forgetting things that seem everyday to you now your very cells forget their one life sustaining role
The phone scene in Skinamarink is worse because it's not JUST that the entity stopped the boy from calling for help, the entity allowed the boy to get in touch with 911 and have a glimmer of hope before changing the phone out and mocking him. This is after his sister has had... something done to her and was forced into the basement and after he was either mind-controlled or coerced into stabbing his own eye. The phones already didn't work when the doors went missing and the fact that the line suddenly works again suggests it's just the entity toying with the boy.
The way that radiation poísoning was depicted in that show is so disturbing. And it's not even completely fleshed out (no pun intended). In reality, the firefighter Vasily vomited his lungs out and pōoped white mucus..
Bro the first few times I watched Meghan is Missing I died laughing at the moment when Not Josh said: ”My name’s not Josh“ I laughed so much that I missed the Meghan’s dead body reveal seen.
In Bone Tomahawk, I think the worst fate are the pregnant women of the cannibal tribe revealed at the end. They are amputated (all limbs) and blinded, only serving to be baby makers to the men of the tribe. The main group walk past them after defeating the rest. That imo is a worse fate. Blinded with no arms or legs just writhing around pregnant for most of the year
Bone Tomahawk (awesome film) really marked me with those tortures, they felt so real, and I didn't know I was walking up to that, I thought it was just another movie. Great performances and stories.
The sight of the firefighter from Chernobyl after the radiation has destroyed his body is eerily similar to how Hisashi Ouchi (the most radioactive person ever) looked towards the end of his life. Radiation is no joke.
For someone who claims they didn't "get" Skinamarink it sure sounds like you have a solid grasp of what the goal of the movie is. Its only intent is to make you feel uneasy, anxious, and scared. The long still shots of dark hallways from a child's height point of view, the ethereal quality of the voices even for the kids themselves (done somewhat intentionally by having them record their lines elsewhere separate to the acting, which also made it easier to direct them for the film), and the nightmare scenario of the entire movie, are all meant to do nothing more than give you that creeping feeling that you're trapped in a nightmare and you can't wake up. The plot is miniscule and there's not a lot of "action", but that's because those things sort of go against the sort of indescribable, childhood nightmare terror that the movie wants you to feel. I'm actually a pretty big fan of horror media that relies more on that sort of atmospheric dread instead of cheap jumpscares or horrific creatures or gory brutality. I love those things too, don't get me wrong, but one of the things that even a seasoned horror enthusiast like myself still can't always prepare myself for is the creeping dread of feeling like I don't belong in this place, and something knows that I'm here. Liminal spaces are a perfect example of the kind of atmosphere that I love in horror, and yet even the more mainstream usage of it in things like the Backrooms has slowly grown to add the multitude of weird creatures and jumpscares.

I think that might've been a little too much for television. There's only so much you can get away with.

😏
And what is white mucus supposed to mean?
For everyone who is interested in the effect of radiotion to the human body should look up the Case of Hisashi Uchi. It's really disturbing.
