I've Been Threatened By Sunfunkits! It's A Crazy World!

- This video is about threats that have been made because Sunfunkits wasn't happy about the test results of their cells and decided to continue their bullying that they are becoming known for. They have threatened to expose my arrest report from 1979 when I was 17 and shoplifted a cassette tape, as well as making my full name and address public. Well here's the story of my brush with the law and also an explanation of my long hair which is a bigger deal than the 44 year old arrest at this point. Sorry for the interuption, now back to your regularly scheduled broadcast. lol
Wow!! Good to know. That is just awful :( I'm glad I ignored their emails. I'm glad you posted this, the world needs to see this experience. Really sucks they would make threats. Absolutely ridiculous. I've had some companies do the same in the past. As long as you are being honest, they can't sue you. I ensure that my evidence is on video for all to see, and let people choose for themselves. I'm glad you posted the video and showed the results. Keep those videos up! What a jerk :(

We also miss you at the forum! We cleared out the sales people and everything has settled down. Would love for you to come back but I totally understand if you don't want to.
I love your honesty and I'm glad you tell us about these threats from this company. I know it can be very stressful to deal with crazy people like that. Not fun. Especially when you're being honest the whole time.

First Sunfun has really made a bad thing worse by threatening you. I would never do business with them after hearing this. Does not matter how good there product is. Secondly what they are doing is harassment and threats that is illegal. I’m sure there are some attorneys among the subscribers that could help you in case you would need legal help in case the threats continues.
"If you don't do this, We'll do that." is more like extortion than harassment. Extortion is a much more serious offense.
I don't care if you just got out of jail yesterday. What does that have to do with the valuable information you provide. Please don't stop doing what you do brother because someone is upset about the truth. Thank you for all your great content. I have learned much by watching.

Can't imagine what it would be like to have a warranty issue with them I will be avoiding Sun Fun Kits. I was actually thinking of buying some things from their website. He could have made a video discussing why he disagreed with your review and let viewers decided. Online threats and bullying is childish and shows what kind of character someone is.

In Australia that sort of threat - to maliciously release private information - would probably result in SFK getting a visit from the boys in blue. Andy from Off Grid Garage also reviewed the SFK - you should give him the heads-up.
Garbage in is garbage out. Verified, checked and re-checked good product sent equals good review result. Someone dropped the ball, management should look into this and replace responsible people. Product probably good for the price but they shipped without thinking. DAMAGE CONTROL and REACHING OUT is the correct action for the company, DOXING a trusted reviewer and blaming others is just SAVING FACE for the less experienced promotional product staffers. 😅
That's really awful Ray. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I appreciate anyone who does objective reviews and really appreciate your attention to detail. I learned about automotive grade batteries from SFK videos. I'm not sure what to believe now. I think I'll stick to the EVE tested rejects from reputable suppliers for my projects.

The fact that it threatens you with completely unrelated stuff, disqualifies this company completely. Independent of the quality of their products I would never buy them. I'd never spend my money on such toxic people.
And talking about your hair: I like it, even if that's nobody's business than yours.
Today was the first time that I saw any videos from this gentleman. I subscribed with the first video. I also watch Will as well as DavidPoz. I did notice the long hair but what I noticed more was his slow talking (I'm originally from South Arkansas) and his honesty. Just from listening to him talk about his history, friend and wife, I felt a kinship. He did not have to tell us all this but he did.
SFK has just given themselves a black eye. We will remember what has taken place. God bless you and your family Ray.

I've read a good many bad reviews about sun fun kits just in the past 2 weeks before your review. Your review was a lot nicer then the other comments I've been reading.
They even have a video out saying they been getting a lot of bad complaints and they are making changes and that's their own video. That's before you made your video.
Take it as a compliment on your channel. They know the industry and you’re channel are going to blow up and they don’t want potential customer’s seeing that test show up when they’re doing pre-purchase research in future.
This only goes to show they’re a company not to be trusted, I’d link this at the end of that test video, especially as you’ve been honest about your misdemeanour.
Edit: We’ve all done stupid thing’s in our youth. I was arrested and cautioned for drunk and disorderly at 18 (legal drinking age in the UK) because I was stupid enough to antagonise and insult a riot van full of police officer’s on my way home with friend’s by giving them the finger from across the street. I was too fast for them but they were too smart for me, they got me when I thought they’d given up. 🤦♂️
I was thinking about one of their kits, but since I got busted for having some pot in 77.....don't need Sunfun posting that....as if that worried me.

Ah....ok, good to hear. Then we can take *** off my list ;) Andy from OffGridGarage also showed that the SFK certified REPT did perform quite equal to the lf280k and Hithium cells.
Wow! SFK sold me two pre-assembled batteries to which I tested them . They arrived with missing items and 1 item which stopped working. Two sides of the battery compartment were missing styrofoam. I only caught it because i dis-assembled them to see if they were an honest business. Next, the balance unit only worked for a two weeks, then quit. I called and was told to wait about a month for a 200A BMS which never came to reality even after calling and waiting over three months to which I gave up on them and just ordered my own from China. Next. I was told that since they were true auto grade batteries, that they would hold high voltage charge after high draw of 150A-200A to which they did not. They went down to 12.2V almost immediately, and then to 11.7V there after immediately.
Good job showing what kind of person he is and how the company cannot be much better because he is running it. Only bad businesspeople would be willing to do that. I know it sounds illegal and it would probably be smart to report it just in case. Gather all the evidence and make copies if you can to protect yourself. Hopefully he is not stupid enough to do anything.
I'm new to Solar Power, still in research phase. I'm enjoying your videos, and now I know one company whose products I will TOTALLY AVOID. I want to buy from a company which puts 100% of its effort into providing the best value for the customer.
The battery community must live in his head rent free. Even I with my now 60 Subs had comments off of him "YOU'RE TESTING THEM WRONG, DO IT LIKE THIS!!!". My cellls are not even from SFK😂😂😂.
The Tool works his out his Cappasity in Watt Hours and uses the nominal factory spec of 3.2V not real world actual cell voltage. Nothing mass produced meets Blue Print Nominals, Mechanical or Electrical that's why we have tolerances.
Your past is your past, we all make mistakes and brake laws when we are young lads, I know I made some stupid ones. He has no rights to threaten you well done for beating to the punch. SFK are overpriced and just as dodgy quality as any Ali retailer.
Now my UA-cam algorithm is contaminated by Sun Fun Kits. His videos are crap and looks like it is run from his Mum's basement. And I thought my videography was bad 😂. His raspy snorting sniff is repulsive.

Ray, I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. These are some of the reasons UA-camrs are reticent to review products. Was thinking... Maybe you should have a third-party test the cells. Ask them to sign the report and test methodology. One more thought. Auditing one out of fifty products going out the door doesn't cut it. Especially for products that must meet a specification. I worked in hi tech all my career. We shipped TENS OF MILLIONS of products around the world. Can you imagine what would have happened to our business and reputation if our products didn't do what they were designed and spec'd to do? They were designed and tested with PLENTY of margin. And during the design and testing phases - if our Engineering team didn't feel it met the specs, our Sales and Marketing teams would have to scale back their sales rhetoric. Under promise and over deliver. Obviously Sunfunkits isn't doing that.
At least if they tested every cell they would know if they had a problem, when it occurred, before they received it or after.
I had previously considered buying one of these kits. Would never consider dealing with this company based on this deeply disturbing experience you have had with them!
Hi Ray, thank you for sharing this and discussing personal information to prevent blackmail. I like many others are very grateful for your openness and honesty. I have learnt a lot from your videos and hope experiences like this don’t prevent the rest of us gaining from your vast experience. You have inspired me to build a power house even though I’m only on a 1/4 acre block. I love your building videos, not just the battery ones and believe your methodical approach to all things you do provides all your viewers with great insight.

Occasionally I encounter someone that makes me wish there was a reason to be around them ... in their world or mine. You certainly have that personality. For me, this video is less about subpar batteries, than about your character. As to Sunfun, instead of making the effort to intellectually explain your results, they chose to make a number of potential customers hostile towards them. Take care

Good share. It shows your integrity, and their lack of. A lot of buyers of the SFK batteries included kit probably don't own the testing equipment to varify their claims. I, of course, don't know if the other UA-cam reviewers of their product had tested their claim of battery capacity and chose not to include it, or were using their own batteries in the kit only version. As I recall from your previous videos, SFK was putting their own battery spec label on each of the batteries. That would imply they themselves had tested and varified the capacities. Then they tell you they only spot check every so many batteries. So they're just picking numbers out of the air to put on their labels? How dishonest. 🤙
Well what they did getting your personal information like you're driving license that's illegal as hell and they giving you a ultimatum or threatening you.
That's pretty trolish of them.. I'm building a SFK kit right now and I was only given 6awg wires as well and only 2 of them not 4.. I was surprised about this and I don't plan on using them. I as well mentioned this in my video.

I too just saw this post (video) as I am just watching more from you as I have only recently subscribed. I can definitely sympathize as I have a friend who went thru a similar and serious situation, but the shiit part of this is the fact that they/he chose a dirty fight. It’s the classic “ since I can’t win fairly, I’ll try and win on something irrelevant” -the kid having a tantrum and wanting you to feel his pain and anguish- guess he hasn’t leanrned about humility and how one can grow from a potential lesson learned. And, he also could have tested the issues himself , discussed it with you and if there were anomalies , been honest and moved on….could have even made some points! Anyway, it’s in their best interest to refrain and try to salvage from this lapse , and hopefully rebuild whatever it is they wanted to attain ($$?!).

IMO this video was the best thing you can do...... Probably everyone who is doing an honest review has to make it clear that if they liked the product they will say it.. If not they will say it too... When someone wants me do something me I make them really understand that if they want something from me I will do it my way... And if they are telling me what to do and how they shouldn't asking me to do it cuz they obviously know what to do 🤣😂🤣😂

I had dealings with sunfun and the stuff I purchased from them was junk, the quality was just not there.
Keep the long hair it looks good. Anyone that would go after a man's family in my opinion deserves to get taken behind the woodshed and laid into with a good heavy belt. The pup you have there is one good looking pupper.

Do they really think think that something you did when you were 17 would affect your reputation. if that was the case most of the Governors in the US would be illegible for duty.
Its a sad reality that their behavior is what drives good people from trying to help others online with their expertise, knowledge and genuine good hearted nature to bring info to folks who are looking for some of the above to help them. Thats what makes community great in areas we making attempt to DIY. The bully’s, and those are use to getting their way attempt to silence honest people and when one resorts to bully threat tactics it almost always backfires on them.
I had never seen your videos i happened to stumble on a post on will’s forum and it was a discussion about companies and their service rating in honest opinions, your video was shared.

Subscribing to your channel, not because this was an awesome video, but because you seem like an honest dude. SFK is a company I will never even look at, not because the product reviews, but because of his behaviour.

I expect all companies to at some point drop the ball and send out a defective product, it's not a big deal if they're willing and able to rectify the situation, they become heroes if they have good customer service imho. I genuinely don't understand why instead of just saying 'sorry we'll work to improve things', they're willing to threaten you and absolutely become a villain no one will now want to engage with.

I was considering SFK but if they are using threats to make their products look better than what they are I will not even think of them in future or even watch their videos now. Them trying to cheat will only cost them more.

Ray, we need more people like you in this world. You are an informal mentor to many of us thanks to your valued content you so graciously share with us all. You are one of the best under subscribed/rated UA-cam channels. It's a shame to hear someone is treating you in such a manner. I would not hesitate to report this to UA-cam and the proper authorities and if it warrants it get legal advise as Will Trapp mentioned in his comment. The person needs to be accountable for their actions. To think I almost purchased a kit months ago. I would never willingly give my $$$ to a business knowing the individual(s) operating it behave like this. I will also be sharing your experience with all my friends who were also considering those batteries/kits so that they can decide for themselves. Your sacrifice has and will save many! I willl not hesitate to report any videos that present an attach on your person/character. Keep up the great work!

Ray that is a sad story. I had actually thought about buying from Sunfunkits at one point. Now I will never buy from them. However I did buy from Jenny Wu @ docan about a week ago because of your review of the lifepo4 cells. I went with the 280ah because they're already here in the US. Wanted larger cells but couldn't wait 2 months. I had 2 out of 3 renogy lifepo4 100ah batteries that went bad a couple weeks ago and needed replacement quickly. So I sent all 3 renogy batteries back because they were only 1 year old and under warranty...sad. Anyways don't let them get to you and keep on with what your doing. You seem to be a very humble person and that's rare these days. Take care Ray!

In my whole lifetime of experience, (I think I’m a little older than you), when a salesman runs the other opposition companies down rather than “up selling” his own product, there is usually a serious problem. I usually walk the other way when I run in to such a person.
SFK have now done that in spades, and have lost any trust or respect that I could ever have potentially had for them. Their threats to you are absolutely disgusting.
Your honesty is very obvious and very apparent to me.
(I also hate to say it: how many teens have not EVER shoplifted at some stage in their youth? Yes, kids do indeed do stupid things, often just a one off impulse thing.
I’d even guess that not many grown adults could say with total honesty, that they had not EVER shoplifted anything as teenagers.
You were unlucky enough to get caught, then did the right thing and pleaded guilty. Lesson learned. Move on. That was a hell of a long time ago!

Whomever tests SunFun's crap now will tarnish their own name also. There are too many marketers out there who sell their souls for UA-cam dollars. I would like it if you posted the name, address, and email of your accuser from SunFun and see how he likes it.

Ray you may be interested in Battery Hookup a close friend of mine put me in touch with them. They sell used electronic batteries and parts to build your own battery banks. I can tell that your wife is a very lucky person. You are a very special person which we need so much more in the world especially today. I personally feel you look very good with long hair and clean shaven. I am jealous of your wife lol.
Battery hookup sold me batteries that they claimed were tested however when I did test them 4 of the 8 cells were so low in capacity that they were no good at all and couldn't be used in an 8s pack as intended. They then gave me a hard time about returning all 8. I haven't done business with them since.
No real reason to mess with used batteries now that these LFP cells we are currently using came on the scene .Already enough risk involved with new ones .
While I can't speak as a lawyer with regards to the possible legal ramifications of what SFK has done or may do I do know that UA-cam has rules in place against doxxing and other forms of harassment, and encouraging on and off platform acts like that. I would recommend getting in touch with UA-cam's safety team (or customer service if they don't have an easily reachable safety team) and forward them the threatening emails to see if they can take any kind of preventative measures against SFK. In the unfortunate event that they are either unable to stop SFK from posting the video or don't process your email before the video releases, I would recommend immediately reporting the video for harassing you as revealing personal information about someone (doxxing) is against UA-cam's anti-harassment policy. Now again, I'm not a lawyer and this isn't legal advice, you mentioned that in one of the emails you were a "convicted felon" which you say is inaccurate and that it was a class c misdemeanor, if SFK does publish the video they threatened you may want to talk to a lawyer as calling someone a "convicted felon" when you know that they were only convicted of a misdemeanor and doing so with the intent to cause emotional, and/or financial hardships would likely constitute a civil case for slander/libel (I don't know whether a video would count as slander or libel but a lawyer will) and you could even consider talking to your lawyer about filing a claim for harassment if you feel that the emails caused you significant distress. Again to be clear I am NOT A LAWYER this is just my understanding of things as a layperson and a suggestion to seek out a lawyer if you feel like what SFK has done or what they do in the future is severe enough to warrant legal action. I hope this can be of some help to you and for anyone who reads this if you could keep a bit of an eye on SFK and if they do put out a video containing any of Ray's personal info report the video for harassment and hopefully we can get it taken down as quickly as possible to minimize the damage.

While doxing is not technically illegal, the threat to do so in exchange for an action falls into the blackmail or extortion area and that IS illegal. I hope you have the emails and file a criminal complaint with local law enforcement.

Call the sheriff and make a report for harassment and threats to harm you and your family. Take copies of everything you can relating.

Well in my eyes there is just one answer to SFK: facts.
I would asap do a retest with proper cables and a better attachment to the cells and see, how the results change. (planning that for my Docan cells). I know your test setup delivered consistent results so far, but it‘s just not the standard that reflects the one in the EVE factory with the capacity of those tests being printed on the SFK labels. So there might be a difference in results. Btw i thought SFK tested all cells themselfes and the printed capacity was the one on the label - nope, they are from EVE at production date 🤷🏻.
On the threatening: i would have reacted the same way: make it public, but i would also show the mails (of course without the email address) in a video.
On my name or address in the internet: i‘m in Germany and i don‘t care. It‘s not a secret, if you do some research you will find my name, adress, phone number on the web connected to my nick i use on the internet for more then 20years now.
But: in Germany people are mostly not legally allowed to carry guns - you might get them on the black market anyway, buts thats not too common.
I understand everyone to protect personal data from going public.
As already stated from others: beside just telling the facts you might want to get UA-cam involved. The youtube creators channel just made a video public on this issue. Threatening you or your family is an absolute nogo.
Keep on the good work, you are beeing an inspiration to me and i like to see how things are build in the US compared to over here in Germany. Oh and of course i like the battery videos.
PS: I would also edit the video about the SFK battery assembly asap and publish it on YT - just to show SFK that you only show facts and show him your great friendly and gentle smile ;).
