In middle school, I had a Spanish teacher who did not teach us anything. We were a first year Spanish class, but she expected us to not only speak nothing but Spanish, but also gave us insane tests of things we didn't learn, gave us worksheets in complete Spanish, and never let us take the textbook home. Literally the whole class failed except for one student who disobeyed and took the textbook home with him and he got in trouble for it. The worst part is that, when I was failing, my sperm donor refused to believe me because I clearly just wasn't paying any attention

What the heck is going on in Spanish classes. I had a wonderful Spanish teacher but she was gone for 3 weeks and we had a sub who was dreadful. Like as the day progress this sub made me hate school. And in the last week I started to have a panic attack. The sub started to verbally attack me because I could not calm down. It was so bad that even the cool kids who disliked me jumped to my defense. That sub was fired after that event. I don't think that sub was allowed on school ground anymore.

I just graduated high school this past June. And I will never forget this one male teacher I had. He was by far my favorite teacher of all time. He was a very lenient teacher. We never had tests because when he was in middle and high school he hated taking tests. We only did group projects, and I would say 80% of the time he would push back the date of our presentations by like a day or two because he was too tired to listen and grade all of them. If you didn't feel like presenting in front of the entire class he would let u come in the morning, stay after school, or whenever he had free time and present to only him. Some days (mostly Fridays) he would walk into class and legit tell us, "it's Friday. I don't feel like doing anything, so today is a free day. Do what u have to do for this class or other classes." And we would spend a good 1hr 40mins doing whatever we wanted. And everything he taught us he did so in the most simple way so we could understand better. No one failed his class, and I for one never had below an A for the entire year. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. Sadly he left my high school after I graduated.

teachers during tests are hell- at the start they *literally tell you* they can't help you yet in the same breath they'll say to "ask for help if you need it". sometimes they go as far as saying "you can ask for help but i can only read the question out to you, i can't tell you the answer".
then the test starts, you ask for help and the teacher begins doing exactly what they said they'd do (and exactly what you *know* they're going to do)- "helping". or in other words, reading the question back to you, enunciating every second word as if you were illiterate.

I remember back in highschool when we had an exam in our native language, the professor was walking student to student and "helping out" if l can call it that way.
She was standing next to me while l was writing an answer to a question regarding literature, and without saying a single word she started aggressively pointing at my written answer and left me hanging.
After rereading every single answer written, I refused to change the one she pointed at.

I honestly hated school throughout elementary and middle school because I always got bullied by others. So when I entered high school, I learned to be by myself and keep my head down. I didn’t make a lot of friends but I had two important main ones and we were close than ever with one another. I had some good time in high school actually. I don’t miss it but I would reminisce about those memories sometimes. I’m very glad to be in an adult now and not have to deal with school anymore. Kids, remember bullies don’t matter in school. They’ll wind up being dead beats or with kids they don’t want while you’re out there making an actual good living for yourself and feeling proud of your accomplishments. When I was at school, we had a Biology teacher who was...the best way to describe him was like Robin Williams' character in _Dead Poets Society_ - he just instinctively knew how to communicate and connect with boisterous and easily-bored teenage boys (single-gender school).
Not only did he teach well in the standard way (from a technical perspective), but if people's attention spans were wavering he knew what to do. Say a boy was chatting or larking around, he'd have this syringe full of water in his pocket and he would comically sneak up on them (with exaggerated caution for the amusement of everyone else) and squirt it at their ass - and they would then jump up startled and everyone would laugh. However, because it was all done in a good-natured way, even that kid would be laughing along rather than being humiliated or angry or upset. I never saw this teacher shout or lose his cool even when there might total bedlam; he somehow was able to just regain control and he earned the respect of every boy there to the point where if he was disappointed at you, you'd almost feel like crying. I think he was one of the few teachers in our school who was not just liked but genuinely *loved* to the "we must protect at all costs" kind of level.
And years and years later, I still remember almost everything he taught us, so he must have been doing something right.

She jokingly said that a chocolate bar would make her happier, every lesson after that she would staple a chocolate bar to the front of everyone's book. It made it better that she didn't do that with any other class, only our class 🤣

Man, my school was so bad, literally, all of this is relatable even though I barely learned stuff, I realized I was like 4th-grade material in 6th grade since my schools were so low. They are the lowest in Arizona and The lowest in us I believe, not sure though. It's literally an F and the worst in our little city too. The boys would never want to learn so they were always talking and we spent the whole day rearranging the boys around and dealing with bullies and people taking notes for like 30 minutes. it was horrible. The teachers had to send at least 5 people per class to the office per day.

My students would confide in me and they would say stuff like "Mr Whatever is strange, sometimes we don't know if he is really mad or just joking" and I thought to myself "Damn that's so true !". It felt so surreal to relate to my students while also understanding my teachers-turned-colleagues because I was now in the same position as them.

No one knew what the hell the teacher was saying. And then, when I walked into that classroom and responded to her, the biggest, and I mean THE BIGGEST smile came across her face. She had finally found a student who knew what she was saying and knew how to respond to her 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Edit: And tbh, if we ever talked without her permission, she would have probably hit us with a stick.

When I was in middle school, I always had one genuinely awful teacher who would target me for no reason whatsoever.
In 6th grade, it was my science teacher.
~For context: I grew up in a single mother household with two of my three siblings and was quite poor. Also, I'm from an incredibly small rural farming town, so all of the classes I'm about to mention had about 17 students tops.~
So we had this big trip planned where we would be going to the Georgia Aquarium and leading up to the travel date, there were four or five different "deposit days" (usually a Friday) where we would bring in $50. At the time my mom worked three jobs and was able to keep up with the deposits, but then on the third or fourth deposit, she didn't have the money that was due because she wasn't going to be paid until after school ended on the same due date.
Knowing this, she wrote up a letter to my teacher and explained the situation, asking for a slight extension as I would be able to bring the money the very next Monday.
Well, when I gave her the letter that morning, she read it through and began to laugh hysterically. She cleared her throat and got everyone's attention before reading the letter aloud and openly mocking both my mother and I, saying that if I couldn't afford to pay when she says, then I don't need to be going at all. She said she would mark me off the attendance list and made sure to let me know that I wouldn't receive the previously paid deposits back.
When I told my mom what happened when I got back from school, she was obviously infuriated and went to school with me that Monday, the promised $50 in hand, and went to the Principal's Office. He called my teacher in and she said that I was lying through my teeth, but when he pulled random students from the class and they all backed my story, she suddenly changed her tune, saying that she was really stressed and that she would still take the deposit. Yeah, no, the Principal was shocked and said that not only would we not be paying a dime, but Mom would be getting all previous deposits back (even if the teacher had to cough up the cash herself) and I would be going on a school trip scholarship. My mom instead agreed to not paying for the rest of the trip and have what was left covered by the scholarship, and she wanted to make sure that my teacher was not my chaperone.
Yeah, needless to say, that teacher never treated me poorly again.
    ------------------------------------------------
My seventh grade social studies/geography teacher also mocked me in front of my class for being poor and being unable to afford a specific type of 3" 3-ring binder. She ended up giving me a 3-ring binder that was literally falling apart and had all sorts of hate symbols scribbled all over it, and told me to give it back to her at the end of the year for the next student who decides to purposely go against her directions.
She also was super salty that I made the cheerleading team, despite her daughter moving on to high school? I think her daughter tutored some of the girls who were trying out for the team and they didn't make it onto the squad, so she would turn a blind eye to the blatant verbal and physical bullying I had to endure.
    ------------------------------------------------
And finally, my eighth grade science and math teacher.
~For more context: I was shy, quiet, and bookish, and preferred to dress more modestly than the girls on my cheer squad. I enjoyed the sport of it and throwing bitches into the air was a lot of fun. These girls hated me because I wasn't like them. I wasn't a "pick-me" girl or not a "girly-girl" who thought of herself as "quirky" and different, I just literally wasn't like them because they were the stereotypical mean-girl cheerleaders. They had all of the football team on their side and I nearly quit on several occasions, but my mom talked me into toughing it out as a way to show that they can't hurt me- even if it secretly did.~
One day towards the end of the semester, my math/sci teacher was walking to the Office, meaning he had to cut through the gym. As it was towards the end of the semester, all of the 8th grade PE classes were in the gym for benchmark testing, sitting in roll-call. Well, he decided to call out to one of the coaches by his first name *right* as one of his students with the exact same name came walking out of the locker room. Naturally the student answered, wondering what his teacher needed, but he literally looked at the kid and straight up sarcastically asked whether he really thought he was important enough to be spoken to, shocking the student to silence.
Everybody had front row seats to all of this happening as this was a small school, so it was a smaller group of about 50 students max. Seeing that nobody was going to stand up for the guy, I spoke up and said that his response to a genuine question was kind of rude. My teacher looked over at me and told me to repeat myself, so I did, I said that telling someone that they aren't important enough to be spoken to, because of an honest misunderstanding, was rude.
He scoffed and said to me: "You want to know what I and everyone else thinks about you? You're homely. Do you know what that means or is that a bit of a thinker for you? Here, I'll be kind and save you your last bit of brain power to remember to look it up later: it means you are unattractive and plain. You are less important than he is."
And he walked out of the gym.
I managed to save my tears for the locker room with my best friends who were there to see it all happen and I talked them out of reporting him to the 8th grade principal. They begrudgingly listened, but kept watch over me for the rest of the day. When I got home, I didn't tell my mom what happened, but she ended up overhearing me when I was on a call with them that same night. She didn't go to the principal, but instead emailed him directly, chewing him out and shaming him before going and buying me a cute graphic Tweety Bird shirt that said: "Even with a golden egg, it's what's on the inside that counts." (It was cuter than it sounds and wasn't tacky or childish - this was also around when people started wearing all of the Sesame Street hats and pants)
I was super confused when she abruptly left for the store at night and came back with that shirt, but again, he never messed with me again. He didn't apologize or anything as my mom told him to just let it go and to not humiliate me further, but he was noticeably kinder to me and to the other students. It didn't help me though as the damage was already done. All of the football players were mean bullies that would shoulder-check me, and the other cheerleaders would avoid me at all costs if they weren't busy trying to spread rumors.
Anyways, once I left middle school, things went skyrocketing for me. I found incredible teachers and professors (early college program), and I never saw the students or teachers who made my life hell ever again!
I am 23 (24 on Oct. 28th!) and have both my AA and BA degrees along with numerous certifications for ASL Interpreting and Deaf Studies, so I am happy to have left them all behind!
