A hunting trip to Stewart Island at the bottom of New Zealand. We went to "East Ruggedy block" on the North West Coast of the Island. The flight in and out was something special.
Great Video David, my relationship with Stewart Island goes back to the 80's it could be the 70s, my Aunt was the district nurse on the island and a very keen tramper, the 1st trip it was planned for us to fly into the masons, but the plane crashed on masons beach before we had left invercargill, the second trip we walked from freds camp to masons and spent a couple of days in a tent while a low went over the island which was an major storm! a fantastic place!
Thanks Nick, yes I was trying for the wider audience as it is such a unique place and a great adventure. Not everyone gets a chance to experience it first hand. We were so lucky with the weather.
Wonderful video boys , bucket list to get down there one day (long way from north of Auckland tho) really enjoyed the scenery and the great native birds on film, awesome
Looks like you had a ball dave. I found the deer signs always seem to be on the coast there . Think they must get minerals from the seaweed that washes up or the salt off the plants from the sea spray .
Hi Andrew, I didn't organise the flights. My mate Stu Millar did. I think he contacted Stewart Island air and organised it from there. First you have to talk to DOC for hut bookings then the airline as it is tide dependant. We were lucky that low tide was at 7.30 am and the weather was good for the whole trip.

I am not a hunter but really loved the scenic shots and music in this video - really well done.

Neat video, those whitetail make you work. Ray is a good pilot too. Cheers 😎
Thanks Tony, that was my first time on Stewart Island. I will certainly be going back armed with a bit more knowledge and experience

Hi Darryl yeah we had a great time. I didn't shoot a deer but walked 69km according to my gps. Maybe I should have kept still for longer.
That was great to watch Dave. Thanks for taking the time to film your adventure. Ill have to add that to my bucket list.
Thanks Chris, Its a great place, not as remote as you might think but very special. I think we were lucky with the weather. It was mid October 2020.
