i like as he tells "i got bored and left" :D So young in mind :D
+Magyar Attila science = explosions.
no explosions = not science enough
i know, most interesting haha
Science is flames and explosions and nothing else.
:D
Step 1: receive a knighthood
Step 2: experiment with coke
Classic.
SupasaskaTV Step 3: Profit
Obviously.
***** Step 4. Repeat
SupasaskaTV
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit
SupasaskaTV The chances of winning the lottery are better than devising a "Step 3" that flows well with Step 1 and step 2...
excavatoree utube
Lol, a highly esteemed professor just told us he basically went "No explosions. Fuck this."
Science!
When the camera zoomed in on the bike I thought Martyn was going to say "we decided to try freeze the bike"
I thought they decided to run it over 👀
I was pretty sure they were gonna do something to that bike too !!
Aww man me too...i was so confused for a few lol
Same 😂
I persuaded neil to freeze the bike *
'I got bored and left.' 😂
+Maddy James IKR!!! what an adorable professor !!
Matdy James 😔
Matdy James o
That's my favorite part lol 😆
Think he’s made some under estimations
"Liquid nitrogen is Quite cold"
"Coke has Some sugar"
lol exactly
For some reason, I laughed aloud when you said "The machine only gave bottles of pepsi". Just... the idea that you got your main piece of this quite elaborate and professional experiment from a vending machine is somehow hilarious.
putting stuff in liquid nitrogen is elaborate and professional? lol
The CEO of Pepsi was fired this morning...
He tested positive for Coke.
never old jocke
Meh
I just told that joke at work...... crickets.
@@jaredlazaron8414 tough crowd
I think this video is like a homework for 3rd graders so that is why it is so underrated
"I got bored and left", somehow the funniest thing I've heard the professor say, hehe.
And it's coming from a guy who literally found watching a frozen can of coke melting fascinating.
Actually not the first time he said that 😂
Professor Sir Martyn Polikakoff is a man who has no time for things that doesn't interest him. Breaking Bad, Coke, even boring science, he will leave the experiment if it fails to pique his interest.
GuyWithAnAmazingHat Not to be a dick but it's actually "pique" instead of "peak". I only recently realized that :)
***** At least you're polite, I'll gladly edit my post :)
GuyWithAnAmazingHat Your hat is indeed amazing. Also, tremendous.
***** Ah, here's one of the amazing features of my hats, it allows me and other Whovians, like goose300183, to know who the Whovians are.
It's primary feature is making my head bigger on the inside than the outside.
GuyWithAnAmazingHat Good on you for getting his titles in the right order. 😄
he goes out and buys 2 cans of .....coke
i thought he was gonna say liqu. nit.
i swear he probrably has it in his fridge like i have coke in mine
Most unis have some large LN2 tanks and/or collections of dewars (large thermos like canisters) on storage, so not too far off !
4:18 you could've literally "snort that coke".
+CookieTrooper HP i could, but i wouldn't
Unless it's a drug it's just going to hurt unless you inhale it.
You'd be the first person in history to actually die of "brain freeze."
If the professor lives longer than 120 then I'm never drinking Coke
Justin 518 PEPSI !
Justin 518 That meens we can drink coke for another 53 years!
Just green tea! XD
Justin 518 If he lives longer than 120 you'll probably die before you know he got there.
aluisious Being 15 I think I'm good lmao XD
I want to see Neil poppin' a wheelie on that motorcycle while wearing a SPEEDO --- in SLO MO!
***** OMG, Why ?
***** That sounds awesome except for the speedo part lol
On a pool of mercury!!?
***** This is an inevitable part of any of the ideas of Taofledermaus.
slendy9600
A little splash wont hurt you.
The Professor isn't missing much having never drank cola.
i *LOVE* his contempt for colas
me too!
But Professor, how do you know coca-cola isn't your thing if you haven't tried it?
Shilag He's a chemist. He's probably tried lots of things. :)
Shilag Look at his hair. He's had something.
Shilag You know.. I was thinking the same thing about something.. Fuck it i'll go try heroin. Thanks for the advice!
dbowk0
Thank you, Mr Literal. Let me know how your expedition goes.
Shilag He feel asleep, He will be back tomorrow
Am I the only one thinking how baller it is that they are timing the thawing of the coke with a Omega Speedmaster Professional?
Brian Jacobson I know right! I was like WTH!!! thats a crazy expensive omega.
Brian Jacobson It's Brady's watch, he's talked about it a few times on Hello Internet.
Hello internet? Can you please give me a link, im interested.
rockhopper123452 it's a podcast Brady does with CGP Grey hellointernet.fm
Hello Internet is amazing. One of my favourite things ever.
_"I went out and bought ..._
Me: liquid nitrogen?
_2 cans of coke"_
Me: huh
1:06 The professor drinks tea directly from whole leaves. I see, he is a man of culture as well!
I wonder if he could actually get some sort of recognition for never having a coke or Pepsi. Not sure how common that really is in a developed country.
***** it's not that uncommon, I personally don't drink any caffeinated sodas (including coke and pepsi) because I just decided not to.
Heliwr Gwynblew but have you never ever ever done. it it is not do you not drink coke
marlonyo No, I never have in the 20 years I've been alive.
Heliwr Gwynblew lia lia pants on fia
***** He got the Knighthood. Maybe they didn`t tell the real reason.
if this is what scientists do all day long then I want to be a scientist
Kvarnholmen I guess they have sooooo exiting things, they don't even have time to shoot videos
Real science is nothing like this. This is more of a demonstration than an actual experiment.
They should have youtube channels.
Actually, 2 of my best friends' dads work at Yale/other labs. They do fun stuff like this all the time. And goof off. And have the best pranks. All whilst working. Science takes a lot of time, so you need to fill that time, eh?
this is excactly the reason i want to become a chemist or engineer
I can’t trust someone that’s never had a coke.
He must've had some when he was a kid.
Never thought i'd hear that line from a british scientist.
"I got bored and left"
It seems that the Professor is now trying not to ruin his perfect record of not tasting Coke in the same way Brady is trying not to ruin his perfect record of not cussing. Good luck, everybody!
I was gonna say Brady's record of not drinking coffee! :D
InterrobangActivate That one works too! But perhaps if he meets Mrs Grey a few more times he will cave in the same way CGP Grey did. Coffee drinkers will rule the Earth!
Skeletor Jopko I believe the term you're looking for is 'slander'. Considering that none of us know the context, it's impossible to make a fair judgement. Or have you never misspoken in a moment of anger?
E Hernandez Cryptomorality.
+delusionnnnn Oh one of the true scourges of humanity! Whatever shall be done!?
Coke is mostly sugar and some water.
Alin Marginean Not really. It's still more water than sugar. BUT it's still bad nonetheless.
Like ... 2:3 sugar or so? And extremely acidic too, so it's not just the sugar.
Luniii737 Yah it's basically the perfect combination for tooth decay
Luniii737 The pH value of coke is about 2,8. Coke contains less carbohydrates than apple juice and only a little bit more than OJ. Grape juice is the sweetest juice of them all.
Total carbohydrate:
Orange: 11g/dl
Coke: 11,3g/dl
Apple: 11,8g/dl
Grape: 16,9g/dl
Alin Marginean Your statement would be true, given an opposite definition of the word "mostly."
Luniii737 That's exactly my point. Coke is just acid mixed with sugar, which helps produce more acid. A bad concoction for teeth. Don't try correcting something that isn't wrong
3:15
thats Brady's OMEGA Speedmaster, isn't it? :D
i was expecting him to say "last night i went and bought liquid nitrogen” instead he said coke meaning it’s normal for him to have the liquid nitrogen on deck but not soda😂
Sir Martin is a legend. We already knew that, but never drank a can of coke, nice.
Some older north koreans might also not have tasted the drink of capitalism
tommihommi1 Also there's probably people belonging to some African native tribe who haven't been drinking Coke.
tommihommi1 And see what happens when you do not drink Coke.
When you don't drink coke, side effects include communism and poverty.
tommihommi1 Since when is Coke the "drink of Capitalism?"
Markus since coke began selling in other ways than a guy squirting a sludge into a cup and filling it with bubble water.
'One of my "Co-workers" had put a can..." yeah right prof ;)
Looks like a mad professor scientist.
" I got bored and left. " Classic LMAO
"Like a work of art."
**CLUNK**
This man has a stinking knighthood for his work in chemistry and he still gets excited about "high school" level chemistry. That's awesome
I love the professor. Thank you for keeping my curiosity alive.
What was in the professor's cup?
Lewis Witton Tea
Lewis Witton Tea
Lewis Witton I think it was green tea to be exact
Lewis Witton air?
Lewis Witton som good quality tea maybe :P
nice use of the speedmaster!
Finally, a video on UA-cam I'm not embarrassed to like. Thank you!!!
It's wonderful to see experimentation is alive and well.
That is a very nice Omega watch.
this is my new favorite channel
yaaaaasss
What a great teacher. Cool dude. I’d totally love to have afternoon tea with him and talk about science class.
I would love to have this dude ad my science and physics teacher!
lol I love this guy XD never had coke
4:29
'we alt to be fair and Chuck Neil's bike in liquid nitrogen'
I absolutely LOVE YOUR VIDEOS they are the most interesting videos I've seen
As I'm a year nine student in Aus and have a love for science and scientific studies
Sir Martyn is such an amazing person!
Cola ain't worth trying, professor, it's just a whole bunch of sugar mixed with a very acidic drink.
That sounds more like lemonade than coke.
Yamayamauchiman You forgot to mention the carcinogenic colorant.
"i got bored and left" hahahahahha
I think Ive watched this a long time ago, though Ive only really started watching this channel like last month
Neil gets cooler and cooler every one of these I see - that bike is sick!
"I got bored and left" best comment ever.
Try Justin Bieber in Liquid Nitrogen !!
Hello brotha
TroLz PlaYz Ola bruh!!
It would be an interesting experiment to see if we could indirectly shatter all his fans.
Yes please. Also punch his face afterwards and see if it shatters.
Poor nitrogen.
Sir Martyn Koliaoff is a treasure. We're running out of people like him.
Prof Poliakoff walked right onto my carriage on the tube just last week and I was so star-struck I only mustered myself to say how I loved his work and have been a fan for a long time. I am actually a graduate of Chemistry now and started watching before my university applications; what I should have said was that I owe him for inspiring me to study Chemistry at university level. Maybe he will read this and remember the strange young man with a ginger beard on the tube who tapped him on the shoulder! However I think it will please whoever is reading this to know that after my brief chat he said to his wife in jest "it will be limos next"!!
3:15 Omega Speedmaster Professional
For someone so exploratory and experimental... he's quite adamant on not trying Cola at all! I mean, it's not a big deal but a curious observation all the same.
It's not experimental to join in such behaviours which everyone does anti-thoughtfully.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver 6yrs latre... not really interested.
@@Nemoticon Yes, probably best you delete your comment
@@RideAcrossTheRiver No, it will remain up here forever
@@Nemoticon I'm sure it will with you wound so tight
awesome prof....
You are a very persuasive person, Professor!
omega watch? dayumm that science money!
and that yamaha bike too !
***** i don't think he bought it . maybe some university or lab offered it to him being a well know scientist .
Journalism money... It's Brady's Speedy.
Neil is badass
I love this professor so much hahaha "I got bored and left" 😂
I love this professor!
Why would the can split? The coke inside freezing or the can contracting? Or both?
***** the water when it freezes expand and the metal can contract
Or magic
Pressure from the inside of the can building from the release of the CO2, then instantaneous contraction of the liquid inside the can. The can becomes brittle from the effects of the liquid nitrogen, and when the can bends inward, it splits, and any unexpelled CO2 rushes out, and the coke froze in the liquid nitrogen outside the can.
Somebody had an excellent taste in watches.
This is so wholesome and interesting
I love that chemists never lose their inner child which got them into chemistry in the first place
How did the frozen Pepsi taste?
King Rin like pepsi, but cold
King Rin like frozen pappilaries i would think.
May I ask, who cleans all that mess up after you?
Gleb Klementiev Neil, if previous videos are anything to go by.
Love this channel! Neil nice mt-09 hahah
Neil's bike???? hahaha I love Professor Sir Martyn videos
5:15 "I got bored and left."
lol
handling liquid nitrogen without gloves :/
JaGuaR unfortunately their safety standards and PPE leave a bit to be desired
Thats so you dont get a false sense of security.
Chemistry is amazing and so cool! I am really interested in it 😆
Finally some well chilled coke :D
This man has strange motives....
Coca-cola is extremely unique, and delicious. Not very good for you though.
I just love this guy
I love how the professor talks in such a correct manner
now....would diet coke react differently?
WigglingWaffles Nope, it's all about water soldifing (sorry if I spelled this word wrong), because water has a rare properties, like having bigger volume when solid, instead of smaller. Also CO2 inside builds up a pressure so it may explode after can cracks because of water.
No because it didn't react it froze, a phase change. The volume can change due to different temperature and pressures, a property of gasses which is learned through PV=nRT and (P1V1)/T1=(P2V2)/T2
But he's at least smoked a bowl of weed right?
He smokes straight blunts, son.
+Jon Snow Nah he puts the leaves in his mouth, chews, then lights them on fire before swallowing.
+Benjamin McCrink
No, he makes LSD.
+meow meow Maybe he could develop cancer and make dope to pay for a radical treatment. How would he look like in y fronts in a Winnebago in the desert?
english?
I want to meet and interview this man so bad. You have no idea. He must have so many amazing stories.
Should've gone to the supermarket and asked "Excuse me, I never drink coke, where are your coke cans? Oh OK, thank you. And one more thing. I need some liquid nitrogen. Where are your liquid nitrogen cans?"
How can you go an entire life without tasting something so common? I'm not saying it's so amazing that you have to try it "or miss out on life" but it just seems weird to me that you actively try and avoid it.
When buying 2 cans for the liquid nitrogen experiment, it seems such a logical step to just buy 3 and experiment yourself.
You know.. Gathering knowledge, experiences... as a knighted professor it seems almost unscientific of you to not drink that cola and understand how the different compounds that make up the drink result in the o-so-popular taste perceived by our human brains.
The more I think about it the more perplexed I get about this ordeal! In fact, there's a 37% probability I'll unsub if the next video isn't one of the professor drinking a coke
And about a 100% chance if it's a pepsi.
***** My troll sensor is confused now
***** well, you don't have to try, say, heroin to know that it is bad for you.
***** I have a friend who never had a burrito. He even went to college and never had one until we made him eat one when he was about 28 years old. Now he eats them all the time. Some people just never try new things.
RisefromyourGRAVE Moron, soft drinks are not physiologically addicting.
Yucannt Hahvitt
eh whut? in which world?
Such a wasted life never having imbibed on that sweet nectar of the gods.
Professor Sir Martyn is a true scientist, as evidenced by his initial reaction to hearing that his co-worker destroyed a piece of expensive lab equipment not being one of anger or disappointment, but rather a reaction of cheerful curiosity! Case in point, "...and I suddenly thought, what would happen if we put a Coke can in liquid nitrogen?" posited Sir Martyn in an enthusiastic and gleeful manner after a laboratory freezer was destroyed. Hahaha, so awesome! :D
I am loving Neil's bike! MT-09's are the best. Who does the speed master belong to?
This professor is a chill guy
I've done this myself, but it's way more interesting when he does it.
The fact that this man has never tasted Coca Cola is far more interesting than the experiment. Like, wtf, amirite?
The fact Sir Martyn has never had a sip of coke is likely the most remarkable fact I've learnt on this channel...and I do love this channel!
Nice timepiece
Nice watch!
Excellent
When you get soooo old and such a professor that you can say "I got bored and left", thats an alltime peak for all of us xD
Gives a whole new meaning to a cold one.
"I got bored and left" - you are literally the kind of chemistry Professer everyone wishes they had back in school :D
The professor is LEGENDARY...
I had a can freeze in a hotel room refrigerator once.
It was very cool. The top piece of the can came off and it leaked the portion of its contents which hadn't frozen all over the inside of the refrigerator.
