- Ping 's new s159 wedges come in lofts from 46-62 degrees and in six different sole grinds, so I went to Ping's world headquarters in Phoenix for an s159 wedge fitting. With the help of the new WebFit Wedge App and some very smart fitters, I learned which s159 wedges match my style and playing conditions.
David thanks for the video. You were right in my backyard here in AZ. We could have played some golf at my club. Hope you enjoyed Ping HQ. Have a good one and may you hit nothing but fairways and greens.
Wait a minute new england soft and wet = a 6 degree wedge? In what world? T is by far the least forgiving wedge, happy digging!
I was a little suspicious of that recommendation, and as you can see in the video, the fitters wound up recommending H, which has more bounce but lots of heel and toe relief. I think the system liked T for me because I tend to play the ball forward, but yeah, it would be a challenge on many courses. - DD
@@DavidDusek The H grind S159 might wind up in the golf equipment hall of fame.
That T grind @6° plays more like a 10° the way the sole is configured. The main thing to factor in is David plays the ball way forward and lifts (with a little lunge) more than rotates. If a player has a lot of rotation and has the ball in a more fundamental ball position then of course the W will work better if soft and/or thicker lies.
Justin is working off the app settings, while James is the smart fitter here and recognises the the H grind is pretty much the perfect grind for David's technique.
Got to remember what suits the goose is not the same for the gander.
I was wondering if Ping name the new grinds after the players like Vokey do. S- Sticker, M- Mickleson, K- Tom Kite.
H for Hovland, B for Bubba?
I went for a new driver in a local store. The guy refused to sell me anything until I went off for some lessons 🤣. Embarrassed but I'm glad he told me.
