    Playing for Benfica in Portugal he probably makes in between 5k-12k per month. I played ten years in Europe and this is a very good breakdown of European basketball.

      @@p0laris789 There are so many factors that go into that... one being are you a dedicated hooper or do you also play other sports? Is there a JV or Freshman team, and did you play for it already? If so, is your varsity coach involved with the lower teams, or at least does he see the films? If he is already familiar with you and your game, ask HIM what he would like to see you improve in. Or ask your freshman/JV coach what they think you should be doing.
      Generally, becoming a STUDENT of the game is super important at your age, as well as playing as much as you can with the intent of getting better. But, as much as you play, you want to be working on your game outside of play, as well. Make sure you are getting shots up every day or at least as often as you can without disrupting your life.
      And DO NOT neglect your grades -- both for basketball and for your own personal growth.
      And if you don't make it this year, you've still got two more years after this -- and even the GOAT, Michael Jordan, got cut from his varsity team as an underclassmen. Don't think it is the end of the world, especially if you worked as hard as you could.

    A few comments ...
    As a basketball fan, I definitely enjoy watching EuroLeague and European basketball in general over the NBA because of many of the reasons that you stated.
    I attended this season's Beşiktaş-Fenerbahçe rivalry game, and it was an absolutely incredible experience, easily one of the most amazing basketball-attending experiences of my life. (I've attended so many basketball games, most in the U.S.)
    Players can oftentimes move teams so often. Like David McCormack. He played his rookie season in 2022-23 with Beşiktaş but then not only moved to another Istanbul-based team in Darüşşafaka for the 2023-24 campaign but then moved yet again mid-season to a third Istanbul club in Galatasaray.
    Note for any women's players that the EuroLeague and EuroCup on the women's side, despite having the same names, are not organized by the people who oversee the men's EuroLeague and EuroCup. They're instead run by the organization that operates the Champions League and Europe Cup on the men's side (FIBA).

      Professional in an obscure place like... Guatemala at $40k/year is not a horrible prospect. One thing that is often not taken into account here is cost of living. If the average Guatemalan is making $8k/year, and you're making $40k/year, are you going to feel poor? No... you're living an upper class Guatemalan life. And... the pay in leagues across the world is doubling over 10 years and is likely only going to continue. If a person was 40 years old, having played a nice long 20 year career dominating in Guatemala, earning from $40k-160k/year, did they screw it all up? That person would likely be a millionaire. And a million bucks goes a long way in a place like Guatemala... And you'd be like 40 years old. I can think of worse career paths. Any league up from that is booku money.

    Yup Punter was earning around 4-5 per month over here in Poland as a rookie playing for Rosa Radom back in the day and for coach Kaminski... Kaminski in particular is widely known for letting his US players play their game what's an ideal situation for the US players to benefit from 😊. Rosa played also in the Basketball Champions League that season what was another great opportunity to build his name for Punter... Probably for that reason his agent put him in Radom and it paid off biiig time 🙂

    great video! i'm nowhere connected to pro basketball team at all but i could imagine your agent being a very very very decisive factor in you getting signed. if i am a second league team in like germany or italy, i probably do not have huge resources for scouting and limited time, therefore if you go up against another player which might be technically better than you, but i know your agent and i trust him and he has a good case, i'm kinda forced to go with the agent if i don't have many scouting reports for the other guy (and the infinity of other guys out in the market which might be an even better fit for my team... or worse, cuz i have no clue XD).
    good luck with your next move man!

    besides being part of a Corporation team or sponsored by a corporation makes a difference in budget. The other factor is even amateur teams ( regionals, Metro leagues) they all have farm teams starting all the way from U8 to U21. So there is a steady talent flows to the Senior teams. This does impact the reputation of the player if they come from any of the well-known clubs' farm team.

    Some players joined smaller teams in Portugal for salaries ranging between 200-300€. Their intention was to gain valuable experience in a less pressurized environment, while delivering impressive stats and performances to attract larger contract offers elsewhere.

  • @kowski1976
    @kowski1976 10 місяців тому

    Also one other factor is teams that are part of Corp budgets. Anadolu Efes, Turk Telekom, Tofas or a team that is sponsored by a brand. Many sponsors even in 2nd 3rd divisions in top leagues have respectable budgets. My buddy back 20yrs ago use to play in 2nd division in Turkey and made $5-6k a month.

    • @chriskollias9231
      @chriskollias9231 10 місяців тому

      True, depends also the player and if they can contribute immediately to the team's success. I had greek teammates in the 2nd-3d national division in Greece that were making 3-4k unataxed per month. Back then foreigners were not allowed. Last 2 years D2 teams can have 2 foreign players. That was back in 2006 when the budgets were really high everywhere in Europe. Now they are significantly lower. Americans in greek first division can make around 3-5 k for a first contract in a mid-level team.

    $$$ Went to shit when they opened up the boarders and flooded Western Euro with Eastern Euro players and there was no longer any Bosman A or B Players and we cant forget the D. Wilkins issue w/ Panathinaikos Greece where FIBA finally stepped in over Guaranteed $$$ in his 2nd season that Panathinaikos did not want to pay him..I Made it 12 yrs in Euro and my first job was $6k a month front loaded 80% before X-Mas as this was the time teams would start having $$$ issues...Not sure how Euro is now but this was a big problem when I played 1993-2004. Turkey was horrible with this totally had to make sure your contact was front loaded before Nov. If not you left and went to S. America to get your license release because the Euro team was not releasing it......Once they figured they were not making the play-offs or a Cup final 8 $$$ went by by...I have left over 130k in Euro in my 12 yrs playing

    Regarding the salary in Euroleague, the numbers you showed are not so accurate. First of all, the only player that I found that was making close to 500k a month was Mirotic and that was for one year only, and Larking with 4M per year. All the other stars and top players are making are making around 200k-300k, and to be clear only 25-30 players make that amount of money. With the stats I found online, the average Euroleague salary for a player is around 70k-125k per month, which obviously is still really good

      mirotic is the max contract mentioned obviously,larkin and vezenkov make a lot of money too,we dont have official data but there are very well paid players,also even reserves make about double or triple the money they would be making elsewhere
