    About Handmaid's Tale:
The Handmaid's Tale is an American dystopian tragedy television series created by Bruce Miller, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The series was ordered by the streaming service Hulu as a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes, for which production began in late 2016. The plot features a dystopia following a Second American Civil War wherein a totalitarian society subjects fertile women, called "Handmaids", to child-bearing slavery. The first three episodes of the series premiered on April 26, 2017; the subsequent seven episodes were released every Wednesday. In May 2017, the series was renewed for a second season; which premiered on April 25, 2018. In May 2018, Hulu renewed the series for a third season, which premiered on June 5, 2019. In July 2019, the series was renewed for a fourth season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2021. In September 2019, it was announced that Hulu and MGM were developing a sequel series, to be based on Atwood's 2019 novel The Testaments. The Handmaid's Tale's first season won eight Primetime Emmy Awards from 13 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It is the first show produced by Hulu to win a major award as well as the first series on a streaming service to win an Emmy for Outstanding Series. It also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama. Elisabeth Moss was also awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale is premiering in 2021. Originally, the new season was scheduled to premiere in fall 2020, but production came to a halt in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Six months later, in September, production resumed in Toronto.
This time around, viewers can expect 10 episodes instead of the usual 13, one of which will be directed by actress Elisabeth Moss (June Osborne). According to showrunner Bruce Miller, the decision “was 100% creative,” allowing the show to focus on a smaller part of the story instead of multiple story arcs. "Some storylines just seem to shake out as a 10-episode story, in my eyes,” he told IndieWire. “It gives us a little more freedom because you can rely more on one propulsive element." The teaser for season 4 shows the last time we saw June and hints at what's to come. "I can't rest. My daughter deserves better. We all deserve better. Change never comes easy," June says in it. "This war isn't going to win itself. We're just getting started." Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale will feature the show’s regulars - Elisabeth, Max Minghella (Commander Nick Blaine), Bradley Whitford (Commander Joseph Lawrence), Joseph Fiennes (Commander Fred Waterford), Yvonne Strahovski (Serena Joy Waterford), Alexis Bledel (Dr. Emily Malek Ph.D.), Samira Wiley (Moira), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), O-T Fagbenle (Luke Bankole), Madeline Brewer (Janine), and Amanda Brugel (Rita). In addition, Sam Jaeger who portrayed American representative Mark Tuello throughout season 2 and 3 was added to the main cast for the latest installment. Viewers will also spot a new face from Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House. Actress Mckenna Grace will play Mrs. Keyes, described as “a sharply intelligent, teenaged wife of a much older Commander who rules her farm and household with confidence.” The new character will show duality with a “calm and pious” exterior but actually suffers “with turmoil” and “insanity” internally. Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Alexis Bledel, Madelaine Brewer, Samira Wiley, Amanda Brugel, Bradley Whitford, Nina Kiri, Sydney Sweeney

She did NOT get shot in the stomach. The show runners and Atwood have said this over and over. The shooting location they chose (the hip) was simply because it was easiest to recover from without long term repercussions. Bruce Miller himself has said he was surprised at people’s assumptions she was shot in the stomach and therefore sterile. She’s clearly not. Even Yvonne has said ‘…many people struggle with infertility. Until they don’t.’

What do you want to bet "easiest to recover from" was because the Sons of Jacob turn out to be behind the shooting, with or without the knowledge of Fred. I'm guessing with.

Whether shot or not, wasn't the whole premise of the show that most women including Serena are infertile? That's why they wanted Handmaids in the first place.

Hoisted by one own petard. Serena didn't realize that the rules would apply to her as well. Once the cat was out of the bag it was impossible for her to regain control of it. It's ironic that she was silenced. She wanted other women to be servants and to not have a voice but not herself

I never felt bad for Serena. She is shameless and is willing to sacrifice every other woman and little girl for attention and validation. Women like her are some of the most dangerous women to be around. They think that if they side with the men in these matters and go against other females that they will be put on a pedestal but of course in the show that isn't what happens, even in real life. They face the consequences of their actions and changing out be relatively useless because the damage is already done and it's too late.

The only way she can ever change is through empathy so Serena should become a handmaid. Then and only then could she approach June, join the resistance then help her take down the system that she helped create. But I still think she needs to experience a lot of pain for June to even hear her out but would love to see it!

Without knowing much about Serena and how she was before Gilead, it appears at times that she's a victim of circumstances and took advantage of whatever power she was allowed to glean and did, however, go overboard in exploiting those powers. A crux here is that in even today's society, women tend to be more harsh against other women...sad, but true. I think Serena had a near fanatical type of idealism initially and was truly in love with Fred, and had self denial about her idealism when things went south on her. So, she's in a complicated theme and naturally her future is highly charged with question marks. I do believe that she can be reasoned with, but hard to say if she could be trusted to commit herself to a more constructive way of life and influence. I like the Serena character and how she's been presented and would like not to see her destroyed, but to place her in the storyline in a more positive dramatic way. She's a strong character, so reducing her to a colony or ramming her into being a handmaiden just doesn't set well with me.

Adoption trauma is a VERY real thing. Look into the book The Primal Wound. I was adopted at birth and it helped me understand alot. People kid themselves when they say that the baby "wont know". They DO know. We are designed to recognize our mothers when we come out of the womb. Being separated from our mothers as newborns will send the baby into a neurological shock. Which can in turn, cause many issues later in life that can relate to mental health.

A showdown is brewing between Aunt Lidia and Serena. They always had an unspoken rivalry, now Serena without a husband is more vulnerable. Aunt Lidia has held her tongue or gently chided Serena until now, but things may change especially if Serena threatens the safety of June's daughter Hannah.

I'd like to se Serena have a chance to bond with her baby so when she's taken to serve a life sentence in prison the loss will be more palpable to her. I want Serena's baby raised by a family who has zero contact with Serena and take away any hope for Serena ever reuniting with her child. Anything less would be an insult to the harm and devastation she has caused to June, her country, her fellow females, and the world.

Serena Joy, according to author Margaret Atwood (who wrote The Handmaid's Tale), is based off of American conservative icon Phylis Schlafly. Schafly was a lifelong conservative and homemaker who believed women had no purpose outside of the home and she led a movement against the Equal Rights Amendment. Her reason for being against equal representation? Women needed men to complete them and protect them from the harsh consequences of equality. She came VERY close to being in former president Ronald Reagan's administration though he eventually nominated and chose someone who was a conservative but still supportive of the ERA.
The Handmaid's Tale is a response to the rise of the Christian Right that Reagan paved the way for...in addition to this, Atwood also wrote the book as a response to an absurd and exaggerated rumor that white birth rates were dropping in America and worldwide during the 1980s. In the book, America is overthrown by "religious" extremists known as the Sons of Jacob who believe that women (and men) strayed too far from God and that God was punishing the world for numerous sins: equality, lack of marriage, same sex, lack of faith, etc...There was a white supremacist group known as "The Order" in the 1980s led by the late David Lane--they took this decline of white birth rates rumor and ran with it and were training to overthrow the US government as they saw that as the solution to saving the white race. In the book, "The Committee" (which is based on The Order) is the one who authorizes the overthrowing of the American government and curtailment of civil rights.
And with the recent ruling on Roe V Wade, Atwood has since said that aspects of the novel have come to life when she didn't anticipate them to...

It was established by the Swiss that nick is absolutely Nichole's father back when Fred and Serena were trying to get her back from Canada. The reason that they couldn't get her back was that Nick was the father not Fred and June knows this. Personally I don't even think that Serena's baby is Fred's, there's a line where he says to her "This baby is mine as much as Nichole was yours".
