I think a harder Evanescence song to sing is Going Under. A good number of their songs are hard to sing, just because of Amy's voice. And considering she never had any vocal training, that makes it even more impressive. Evanescence should definitely be higher up the list, like in the top 10.
Bring Me To Life changed my life. It showed me that younger women could be famous singers, so 9 year old me started singing, Evanescence my coach. 24 years later, I sing to Nightwish with Tarja and Fleur
The first thing that came to mind when she mentioned Evanescence was Nightwish. Some of what's in their catalog is a lot harder than Bring Me to Life. I was actually surprised Ghost Love Score wasn't on this list just because of the amount of stamina that song takes. Yeah there's no ungodly ridiculous high notes, but that song is EXHAUSTING, which is why the instrumental interlude part is so necessary because at that point in the song the singer needs a damn break. And as much as I enjoy Tarja, I think Floor brings something different to Nightwish. Vocally, that woman is a beast in the best way possible. On another note about Nightwish, I was so sad to see Marco go. :(
Fun fact, Amy does not like that version of Bring me to life, another version was recorded but the studio wanted to add the males voice. She perfers what was meant to be the original song with only her voice. Which is why if she performs it live, she mainly does it without a male singer. I do think she has the original up with out the male voice.

Conspicuous in their absence are Adagio and Je Suis Malade by Belgian born French-Canadian Singer-Songwriter Lara Fabian. At 53 Lara is capable of every emotional full range song that made her an international star in her 20s. In one performance during belting a high A, Lara held the mic at her waste. That's the kind of power she has with fully warm resonance. In The Netherlands Glennis Grace covers Whitney Houston almost noté for note. Glennis can sing any Whitney song with ease. She has also covered Beyonce both Halo and Listen. In addition to her covers she has Dutch language albums with both new and classic Dutch somgs including the challenging Afscheid.
Almost every song I would name is in this list. The one song that wasn’t on the list is Alone by Heart. It requires so much breath control and emotion. Very hard!
I can’t believe how many songs on the list I have loved all my life. I must create a playlist of these gorgeous performances from these very talented ladies. Thank you for compiling this incredible video. Cheers
I’m so happy that you included Broadway songs. That is chalk full of songs that are incredibly hard to pull off. I’ve sang music from The Phantom of the Opera, Waitress and sang Memory from Cats at an actual performance and all of those were incredibly hard to pull off. Another one that is hard is I Have Confidence from The Sound of Music. That was one of the first songs I sang with my music teacher and my gosh is it hard. Julie Andrews makes it look effortless but it is definitely not that 😂 You have to tackle these powerful notes, singing pretty fast and you have to keep up your happy, excited, confident energy throughout the song. All of which is hard to do. I had a blast singing it though!
Mariah Carey is the Queen of Hard Songs. She could take entire top 10. Her song of Anytime You Need a Friend (remix) is probably the most vocally demanding recording of all time. Forever and Butterfly would be in top 5 as well.
She's who I initially practiced to starting at about 13. If you can sing her, you can sing just about anything imo Except for Minnie Ripperton. Even I can't do that lol
Love this, 4 of these songs were covered by Pentatonix/Superfruit with Kirstie doing Somewhere over the rainbow and Mitch Grassi doing chandelier (in a bones episode) and Defying Gravity. And they all did Total Eclipse of my heart.
10:41 As much as I love hearing Aretha Franklin sing '(You Make Feel Like) A Natural Woman', I love watching her sing it. From her first filmed performance to her last, her joy, her strength, her love for this song was so......... well, natural. You could see that even though her version was a cover, it was truly a song that was a part of her soul. I could never not watch her perform this song.
1.Alanis Morissette song, You Outta Know 2. Frozen Idina Menzel - Let it go 3. Alicia Keys - If i don't have you and Falling 4. En Vouge * Intro to the song Hold On 5. Nina Simone - Feeling Good Mariah is number 1, she should be. Most of her songs are hard to sing. According to Guinness Book of world records Mariah hit the highest note ever recorded when she was in her 20s. She hit G 7# note. I knew Whitney Houston, I will always love you better been on the list 😂. Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Lisa, Minnie, Barbara and Jennifer definitely deserve to be top 10 on the list
The following songs were missing from this list, as they are extremely hard for us mortals to sing and I haven't heard anyone with talent to match them either (in my humble opinion, don't hate me): - Ain´t no way - Aretha Franklin and every song that aretha franklin released. - Alfie - Cynthia erivo vs - Over the Rainbow - Patti Labelle vs - Tell him - Duet Barbra Streisand ft Celine Dion - Woman in love - Barbra streisand - Feels Like Another One - Miss Patti Labelle - Lullaby of birdland - Sarah vaughan - Lover man - Sarah vaughan - Make love to You - Etta james - Where you at - Jennifer Hudson - Whats love got to do with it - Tina Turner - Ain't nobody - Chaka Khan - I'm Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston - Behind the Hazel Eyes - Kelly Clarkson - What Was I Made For - Billie Eilish - MIsty - Ella Fitzgerald - Never Enough - Lored Allred - Fallin - Alicia Keys - The power of love - Celine Dion - Easy on me - Adele - Butterfly - Mariah carey ----------------------------------------------************ In other languaje *********__________ - Chuncho - Yma Sumac - Desatame y sobrevivire- Monica naranjo - PInga - Shreya Ghoshal - Non, Je ne regrette rien - Edith Piaf - Adagio - Lara Fabian - Stay with me - Miki Matsubara - Click - Miriam Makeba - Je suis malade - Lara Fabian - La soledad y Entre tu y mil mares - Laura Pausini - Asi no te amaran jamas - Amanda Miguel - La maldita primavera - Yuri - Pata pata - MIriam Makeba - Creo en mi - Natalia jimenez - No quererte - Maia - Gracias a la Vida - Violeta Parra - Mais que nada - Miriem Makeba
Barracude by Heart should've made the list. Ann Wilson is a severely underrated singer, 1 of the all-time greats. Listen to anyone try to sing a Heart song and you'll see how tough it is to cover them properly.
Even the songs that I cover and they sound amazing!!! Except that I'm alone, driving and my music is up so loud I'm surprised my ears don't bleed. But when I try to cover Heart, Alone? Sounds awful. Yuck. I give up.
Thank you for posting these long videos. I like listening to them while cleaning because I don't have to be watching (just listen) and it's not a big deal if I miss a few seconds or minutes at a time.
I love "Running Up That Hill" but the cover by Placebo is a very interesting and melancholic rendition. Would definitely recommend to listen to that cover if you've never heard it. You won't be disappointed.
the fact that a powerhouse vocalist like Floor Jansen isn't even mentioned on this list, when she literally blows most of these ladies out of the water, is so shocking to me. Floor can literally sing anything she wants, and in fact, she has. The covers she has on her UA-cam channel is proof enough, not to mention when she sings Phantom of the Opera. But if you want a true testament to how well she can sing, just listen to songs where she BELTS high notes like there's no effort in it at all (Ghost Love Score, Storytime and Greatest Show On Earth are just a few examples), I wish western audiences got to experience her more often, she's literally a superstar.
When I clicked on this video I thought to myself "If they don't have something on here by Nightwish, they are clearly missing out" cause no matter which singer you pick, you're gonna have some belters. Yes, Annette's range was the smallest of the three, but she's standing amongst Tarja and Floor, who are very tough acts to live up to- but some of the most known and iconic songs were with her as their lead singer!
When I first started taking my singing lessons one of the first things my teacher told me was that my voice was similar to Judy Garland’s. It’s been about three years since then but I have never forgotten that comparison and complement. I love music from the 30’s-50’s so that’s probably influenced my way of singing but I have never and probably will never forget that comparison.
What a compliment, when Judy was first contracted by MGM, she was billed as " the little girl with the great big voice" & Over the Rainbow should be higher on this list!
Thank you for including "Hurt" by Christina. A little sad you didn't feature the late, great Eva Cassidy. In my opinion, she did the best "somewhere over the rainbow" of all time... one of many incredible pieces on her Songbird album. Too many people don't know about her greatness. Crystal clear voice... and other times, great bluesy belting
Before I clicked on the video, I knew Mariah Carey's Emotions would ve number one! If people said "Mariah Carey has the worst voice ever", they obviously haven't heard Emotions!
Nina Hagen - "Naturträne": How much octaves can be packed in one song? Nightwish - "Yours is an empty hope": Everything between nearly operatic vocalizing and death metal growling Scardust - "Dials", "Arrowhead": Like Nightwish, but with crazy vocal shifts (Dials) and even scatting (Arrowhead). Noone can cover these
This video was my first exposure to her and I am so happy to finally know about her. I have no idea how I have made it this long with knowing such a great talent. 😮
Emotions is truly mad! Even if you can access the whistle register, the song requires high chest voice, low notes, head voice, riffs and runs, powerful belts, and signature melissma. 😵💫 I'm not surprised to see it at number one.
Mariah really dominated this list lol but My All should definitely be higher, her SNL performance is a prove of that. Her long singing in her magical whisper/breathy register without loosing breath, smooth transitioning between different registers, her flawless high belts, runs and tone, all of this made the song way superior and harder than a lot of songs that were ranked higher. Forever is also a very hard and demanding song that should've taken a place in the list.
Basically I agree with the list. You just forgot Dutch singer Floor Jansen with the Finnish Band Nightwish. Take whatever you want. Live (!) at Wacken or Wembley would be a good start. I doubt that any of these ladies can cope with her. Enjoy. You are welcome.
The top 3 is absolutely accurate!!!! I tried singing Love On Top and completely strained and lost my voice 😂 I Will Always Love You only sounds good when Whitney sings it and I won’t even attempt to sing Emotions
The liner notes from Riperton's compilation album Petals, the melody for "Lovin' You" was created as a distraction for her baby daughter (actress Maya Rudolph) so that Minnie and her husband Richard could Hang out.
This is such a fun watch! TY! Of course, you can't name them all, but this was a start. Please do a part 2!!! With Bjork and Traci Chapman Donna Summers Liza Mielli! Lol fr tho
Let's be honest, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Amy Lee have voices that are one of a kind and awesome. But there are so many women that have a voice that at some point in their singing that is special. I personally really like Hillary Duff's voice. And the raspy sound of Miley Cyrus in the climb is epic. And let's give every type of music it's due .. because if you wanna hear a woman with a vocal range that is not even human go have a listen to Jinger , the song called Pisces. The reaction video of 25 vocal coaches to the song is one of the best reaction videos I have ever seen
Hmmmm. No Anne Wilson? No Floor Jansen? No Lzzy Hale? No Brittney Slayes? Some glaring omissions. I could list more. I would say maybe you were not considering rock or metal vocalists but you included Amy Lee sooooo.
I'd like to add Halestorm's cover of "I want you (she's so heavy)" for the power and range, and Heart's "What about love" (the ending requires so much stamina it's scary), and Loren Aldred's "Never Enough" (and live, she's absolutely KILLING it at the end)
Honestly I just accepted that this song will never be sung live because of its difficulty level and I was totally fine with it. I was so surprised last year when I saw the news that they actually performed it.
I've sang #14 and #17 was my first karaoke song I ever sang. I actually had someone ask me for my autograph after I finished. I was 24 when I sang Un-break my heart and the man bought me flowers. Told me I had a beautiful voice. Twenty years later, I still sing everything from Toni Braxton to Evanessence. My Immortal is a favorite of mine and I have a karaoke friend who does everything from Collide from Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow to Seether/Amy Lee's Hero with me. I have a suggestion. Toughest country songs to sing. Almost all of these were R&B or Pop.
So glad you featured Lisa Fischer and Kate Bush. Although, Instead of picking multiple songs by the same artist you could have picked their hardest and given some accolades to others. Like Sinead O’Conner and Elizabeth Fraser(Cocteau Twins) just to name a few.
I'd say hear me is a more challenging kelly clarkson song that only she can pull off. Her vocal range on it is insane combined with the intensity that she naturally exudes to make the song real & raw.
No way Chandelier by Sia is harder than Vision Of Love by Mariah. That's completely false. Good list overall though. Chandelier's not easy, but Mariah's Vision Of Love is vocal suicide.
While it’s not an easy song to sing “Bring Me To Life” is actually one of the easier Evanescence songs to sing. There are WAY harder ones. Amy herself has said “End of The Dream” and “Cloud Nine” are some of the hardest ones for her and she has to really concentrate for them. I would argue that “Weight of the World”, “The Change”, “Take Cover” and “Blind Belief” are some of the hardest as well
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Aretha Franklin should have a number of songs on this list
looks like they just did one for each of the awesome singers
@@ericarmstrong7906 nah, Mariah appears multiple times in this vid.
@@D.W-rn1ld love Aretha but plenty of people have sung her songs successfully. Ain't no motherfucker be singing Mariah's songs out there without looking a fool. They had to book miss Patti LaBelle and J-Hud to pay tribute to her.
Patti Label "Winner in you", Melba Moore "other side of the rainbow" Eva Cassidy "Over the Rainbow" , ANITA BAKER "Just Because", No-one in the world" "Sweet Love" Barbara Streisand "Somewhere"
Yes, yes, yes, always Patti Labelle. Anita Baker too , and we recently lost Angela Bofill , incomparable voices!
Yes Melba hasn’t got due recognition in particular. Her vocals on Other Side of The Rainbow is incredible!!
@@sharronfoxx69 omg it's so good !
Anita Baker ❤❤❤❤
People sleep on Anita.
Someone talked about Stone Cold, finally 😍😍😍. It is one of the toughest songs to sing vocally
That’s the song that made me take Demi Lovato seriously as a vocalist
Very hard!
Celine Dion is just amazing as a performer.
I agree! It's heartbreaking what she is dealing with now...
Vanishing from her first album is very difficult too
ATYNAF, the club mix? She was scatting in whistle register.
Bliss is also hard cause of the whistle register singing with words.
She's who I initially practiced to starting at about 13. If you can sing her, you can sing just about anything imo
Except for Minnie Ripperton. Even I can't do that lol
Completely agree. Mariah's music is a masterclass in vocal gymnastics.
She honestly and respectfully COULD actually take all the top 10 spots… no other singer has her range and agility
Carole King wrote the song for her ❤️
Seeing some love for “All I Wanted” made me emotional. I LOVE that song.
No Ann Wilson? This list is now illegitimate.
For real... No Alone by Heart?!?! And where the eff is Lizzy Hale?
Ann Wilson is an ICON!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! You saying this and that pouty face in the thumbnail, had me laughing.
Yes❤❤❤❤❤
Truth. Couldn’t believe she wasn’t on here once.
Sinead O'Connor Nothing Compares To You. 🎵🎵🎵
I prefer “The Foggy Dew” with the Chieftains. That song is just chilling!
1.Alanis Morissette song, You Outta Know
2. Frozen Idina Menzel - Let it go
3. Alicia Keys - If i don't have you and Falling
4. En Vouge * Intro to the song Hold On
5. Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Mariah is number 1, she should be. Most of her songs are hard to sing.
According to Guinness Book of world records
Mariah hit the highest note ever recorded when she was in her 20s.
She hit G 7# note.
I knew Whitney Houston, I will always love you better been on the list 😂.
Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Lisa, Minnie, Barbara and Jennifer definitely deserve to be top 10 on the list
The following songs were missing from this list, as they are extremely hard for us mortals to sing and I haven't heard anyone with talent to match them either (in my humble opinion, don't hate me):
- Ain´t no way - Aretha Franklin and every song that aretha franklin released.
- Alfie - Cynthia erivo vs
- Over the Rainbow - Patti Labelle vs
- Tell him - Duet Barbra Streisand ft Celine Dion
- Woman in love - Barbra streisand
- Feels Like Another One - Miss Patti Labelle
- Lullaby of birdland - Sarah vaughan

Natalia Jiménez no sabe respirar, en todas sus canciones se escucha como jala aire.
Barracude by Heart should've made the list. Ann Wilson is a severely underrated singer, 1 of the all-time greats. Listen to anyone try to sing a Heart song and you'll see how tough it is to cover them properly.
She’s definitely at the top of female volalists
Even the songs that I cover and they sound amazing!!! Except that I'm alone, driving and my music is up so loud I'm surprised my ears don't bleed. But when I try to cover Heart, Alone? Sounds awful. Yuck. I give up.
You hit multiple genres, styles, and decades. Beautifully put together list.
Lead the way,Mine again, when i saw you is one of the most hardest song of mariah carey you have to ready your breath control to sing this songs
Its all coming back to me now,I surrender,The power of the dream is one of the most hardest song of celine dion
Thank you for posting these long videos. I like listening to them while cleaning because I don't have to be watching (just listen) and it's not a big deal if I miss a few seconds or minutes at a time.
Chaka Khan should have been included in this. The woman is amazing
NO
Agreed. I don't know any women that could do through the fire justice.
I was thinking the same thing
Teena Marie's collaboration with Rick James "Fire and Desire" Her voice is one for the ages!
'Hurt' song breaks me every single time - very very close to my heart and own life. I even cried just listening to parts of it.
I love "Running Up That Hill" but the cover by Placebo is a very interesting and melancholic rendition. Would definitely recommend to listen to that cover if you've never heard it. You won't be disappointed.
Yes, to me it brings the perfect emotion to it
Vanessa amorosi had a few songs, black cat by Janet Jackson, Joan jet, Janis Joplin, Ella Fitzgerald
Omg someone finally said Ella!!!
Someone else who thinks Vanessa should be on these lists. Finally!
I compare Christina to Whitney. Quality voices!😊
the fact that a powerhouse vocalist like Floor Jansen isn't even mentioned on this list, when she literally blows most of these ladies out of the water, is so shocking to me.
Or any song by her cuz how can they think that
Whoever says she has a horrible voice needs their ears checked 😂😂
To be fair her voice is irritating, so glad I don’t work retail anymore cuz hearing her everyday during Christmas season made me almost violent
Nina Hagen - "Naturträne": How much octaves can be packed in one song?
Nightwish - "Yours is an empty hope": Everything between nearly operatic vocalizing and death metal growling
Scardust - "Dials", "Arrowhead": Like Nightwish, but with crazy vocal shifts (Dials) and even scatting (Arrowhead). Noone can cover these
"Alone" by Heart should be on this list
As long as Lisa Fischer's "How Can I Ease the Pain" makes this list, I'm happy.
Hurt by Christina ❤
I could have sworn they use to put timestamps in these videos.
They don't want people to skip any portion of this vid.
I know, I wanted to skip over Paramore right away
Long , long time will forever remind me of The Last of Us- and I'm 60. A gorgeous song in a beautiful story.
So glad you included Lisa Fischer. She is such an amazing singer and deserved to be more in the limelight. What a voice!!
My God, it starts with all by myself by the legend Céline ❤️
Mariah really dominated this list lol but My All should definitely be higher, her SNL performance is a prove of that. Her long singing in her magical whisper/breathy register without loosing breath, smooth transitioning between different registers, her flawless high belts, runs and tone, all of this made the song way superior and harder than a lot of songs that were ranked higher.
Forever is also a very hard and demanding song that should've taken a place in the list.
#Hurt By #ChristinaAguilera is sooo deep and sad! i looove it ! 😍
Amazing song ❤❤❤
Basically I agree with the list.
You just forgot Dutch singer Floor Jansen with the Finnish Band Nightwish.
Take whatever you want. Live (!) at Wacken or Wembley would be a good start. I doubt that any of these ladies can cope with her.
Enjoy. You are welcome.
The top 3 is absolutely accurate!!!! I tried singing Love On Top and completely strained and lost my voice 😂 I Will Always Love You only sounds good when Whitney sings it and I won’t even attempt to sing Emotions
I tried singing Emotions😢😢😢😂😂😂😂 i sounded like a drowning cat
In would have been insulted if Mrs. Aguilera Is not on the list and ranked up high as well. Good, you did 😊
I feel like phantom of the opera should've been in here somewhere
imagine is absolutely amazing. I basically lost my voice trying to get it right. still haven’t done it 😭
I knew Evanescence would be on here. My friend told me while he was singing My Immortal on Starmaker, He found it hard to stay on the singing lines.
The liner notes from Riperton's compilation album Petals, the melody for "Lovin' You" was created as a distraction for her baby daughter (actress Maya Rudolph) so that Minnie and her husband Richard could Hang out.
I would have substitute Lana Del Rey for Cyndi Lauper's "Girls just wanna have fun" and also included Alone from Heart
😂😂😂
I drove all night is the Cyndi lauper song that's a challenge to sing.
Gosh how can you choose!!?? They are all so good!!❤
Wow what a way to blow off the European singers like Tarja , Floor ,Simmons, Sharron ,Charlotte I could keep going on
Christina
LeAnn Rimes "Blue". That yodle is absolutely perfect and extremely hard to do that clearly
All I Wanted's demanding vocals is why Paramore has only performed it live once or twice.
Honestly I just accepted that this song will never be sung live because of its difficulty level and I was totally fine with it. I was so surprised last year when I saw the news that they actually performed it.
they sang it in every concert they did in south america last year
I've sang #14 and #17 was my first karaoke song I ever sang.
Songbird, Christine McVie
Jinjer - "Pisces" or "Perennial".
people seem to only know bring me to life of evanescence but all of her music is insanely good
So glad you featured Lisa Fischer and Kate Bush. Although, Instead of picking multiple songs by the same artist you could have picked their hardest and given some accolades to others. Like Sinead O’Conner and Elizabeth Fraser(Cocteau Twins) just to name a few.
Omg you gave Lisa Fischer her flowers! I swear no one ever talks about her! I love her!
Great list! I have to agree, as someone who has definitely FLOPPED a few of these at the karaoke bar. Lol!
I'd say hear me is a more challenging kelly clarkson song that only she can pull off. Her vocal range on it is insane combined with the intensity that she naturally exudes to make the song real & raw.
What are people on? Her voice isn't that great.
"Edge of Seventeen" - Stevie Nicks
OMG! I have been obsessed with this song lately, as well as Gold Dust woman. She's got the most unique voice. CanNOT be replaced!!
No way Chandelier by Sia is harder than Vision Of Love by Mariah. That's completely false. Good list overall though. Chandelier's not easy, but Mariah's Vision Of Love is vocal suicide.
Not really
No list is complete without Clare Torry's "Great Gig in the Sky" from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
I would argue that “Weight of the World”, “The Change”, “Take Cover” and “Blind Belief” are some of the hardest as well
Def The Change. Hard for me not to cry while singing it. Lithium too. Love Amy Lee 💜
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
