This week in the PlayStation landscape we saw the April PS Plus Extra & Premium lineup go live, and with that we also learned that a whopping 25 games will be leaving the catalogue. We also have a lot of talk regarding FF XVI's patch, and FFVII Rebirths sales performance. But ALSO, it's been noticed that Microsoft is dominating the PS Store's best seller list. Man the physical disc drama doesn't end. I genuinely hope it doesn't fade away (I'm a physical disc buyer). Taking digital games away like certain companies (Ubisoft) ain't enticing digital games too or making physical buyers like myself going to go to digital. I'll still buy physical till the end
And we are still many. Rumors say Alan Wake 2 didnt sell all that well because people dont wanna fund a digital only product.

To me it depends on the company. Nintendo I go physical because they have shown to shutter their digital stores sooner than later. Xbox I am mostly digital now because they try to keep games as long as possible due to backwards compatibility. Sony is somewhere in the middle. I have a mix of disc and digital there.
Sony recently opened a physical game production factory in Brazil. I don't think physical games are going away any time soon especially playstation and nintendo, they have a very good amount of people buying it. On insomniac leaks documents showed Playstation exclusives sell more on physical format than Digital.

seeing games underperform in terms of sales is very normal, games are at least $70-80 nowadays, people are willing to wait for sales or buy games used because it's just crazy expensive. so we're going to see even more price hikes so the CEOs can still have their yearly bonus and 3rd yacht even while selling less units
Buying games day 1 is the worst version. Better to wait six months for the patches and all the modes.

FF16 was excellent. Deserved more recognition.
In Poland points for Helldivers makes no sense. 630 points gets you 25 PLN voucher (1PLN= 0,25 USD), 2250 points gets you 90 PLN. Now get this, Helldivers is 10000 points. WTF would I buy Helldivers for 10000 when I can redeem 4500 points for 180 PLN and get Helldivers for 169 PLN?!
Perhaps they went with eur while doing calculations for Poland

On the other hand. Remember taxes exist. So go to your store. Try buying Helldivers 2 (but obviously don’t complete the transaction) and then tell us if taxes surpass the PS Stars price or not.

I’ve seen discussion about buying Ps games from other regions in a weird attempt to get games slightly cheaper. Even the USA having different prices depending on state.

Well said about FF7 sales, completely removing context from these sales discussions is really silly. I'd also argue the budget was much lower for Rebirth than Remake just based on the time it took for each game to be made (Remember originally Remake had a different developer and different voice actors entirely).
I mean they split these games up so that they could fund development of the whole project as they go along rather than upfronting the cost and only getting the money back at the end.
So really if you add all of the sales for the trilogy together the numbers still look pretty good.
If companies havent noticed, fewer and fewer gamers are willing to pay $70 for multiple games every year...

Yeah, in this day and age, when costs of living are going through the roof, not many people are ready to pay even more for games.
It’s a $30 increase when you remember ps plus used to be $50 a year and is now $70 along with individual games now being $70. If the prices continue going up then it’s definitely something I wouldn’t want to keep paying for.

People had be worrying that since Rebirth underperformed, Part 3 quality will downgrade. I don't think so. Sony is backing the whole Remakes project. And just like Remake being ported to PS5, Rebirth will do the same. Basically there is no way Sony not gonna use Part 3 as their PS6 console seller. You already made part 3 for PS5. By spending little effort you can have launch title for PS6. It's a no brainer to make part 3 the best you can. You will then bundle them later and sell them again.
well said, also SE is gonna take advantage of the huge install base of PS5 by late 2027 or early 2028 (whatever the number is) just like what they did with Remake at the end of PS4. For PS6, consoles at their launch year usually dont have a lot of new games and thats where FF7R trilogy bundle comes in with a PS6 port, i say its still a good launch game for PS6
I think the games are 'underperforming' because they're so damn expensive now. I refuse to pay $140nzd for a new game when the old price for new ps4 games was around $80-$110nzd. Even back then, I'd wait til a game dropped to like $60nzd to consider it. I only JUST picked up ff16 after wanting it for so long because it was on sale for $60nzd. Still waiting for god of war ragnarok to come down in price 😭 but hey, its also not a big deal to me because backlog exists as well as many other games around my price point... but I could imagine that would be one explanation to all these AAA games underperforming. People are spoilt for choice and don't want to pay full price for a lot of games when they can just wait for a price drop.

My Target hasn't had new games in store or available for pre-order in months, if not years now. I've given up on getting my games there. Their selection is SUPER limited too. I thought they gave up on it a long time ago.
I wish Sony still worked with clap hanz and the hot shots/everybodys golf games. They’re always just really solid games. Everybody’s golf vr was a lot of fun, even with the original psvr wonky tracking

I love final fantasy i'm always there day 1 for any new game. But once i've beaten the main story i rarely go back for dlc.

In the UK at least it costs more for claiming the games than the credit. For example Helldrivers 2 cost 10,000 points or you could get £40 credit for 10,000 points & the game cost £35 so you're always better off going for the credit.

Something about buying physical games online and buying PSN cards in store just doesn't sit well with me.
The cards are more for non-gamers to buy them for their child relatives. On the other hand, they're also useful for people who don't want to keep their credit cards on file.

I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rebirth is underperforming. It’s a sequel releasing on less popular hardware than its predecessor, two factors that will limit its audience. SE did say 16 met their sales expectations, but people called them liars for saying that anyway.

If they add it, it’ll most likely be free on PC. Historically, PC gamers will not pay for things like that no matter how hard they try. It’s why online for Legends is free in Tsushima for PC but you need Plus on console. Unfortunately console players get fleeced in this regard, but they’ve always been willing to get fleeced so they are going to take our money. Like PC gamers, we should have actively resisted this type of nonsense a long time ago.
Yeah.. Microsoft really screwed every console gamer over by bringing that paywall up. And now this crap will linger on long after they are gone from the console business.
Sony will probably be happy with all the live service games Microsoft now sell most of on PS though. Until regulators make that unsustainable and PS shuts down completely in favour of PC because making a box can no longer return the profit. Taking away discs from consoles would be slashing the identity and the history of the consoles. I always go out and buy the disc version of any game because I'd much rather have physical access to my games rather than it being a tick or no tick against my account on a server somewhere. I am all for having digital sales as well, and I understand the ease and accessibility of just clicking a few buttons to have your game, but if that's the only way to play your games on a console, I may as well hop on my PC

Also want to let you guys know that Walmart is clearing a lot of games so check out your local Walmart as you can get Diablo 4, Witcher 3 complete, Madden 24,NBA2K 24, COD MW3, Gotham Knights and many others for 5,10 and 20.00.
I was able to get Anno1800 for PS5 for 5.00 and Quarry for Xbox 5.00. Diablo 4 was sold out around me and Gotham Knights for PS5 was 10.00 but don’t know if worth it even at 10.00 lol
It was a few months ago, but I was able to snag Pac Man World Repac for $10 (PS4 with PS5 upgrade)
Even if Gotham Knights were given away for free. I still wouldn't take it
FF remake got released at the tail end of the PS4 era. Meaning they have been able to reach a much broader audience compared to rebirth. Also, rebirth is freacking expensive and i will buy it second hand because even top tier games are not worth 70$, so 80$ ... !!
Can you do a new refresh of how many PlayStation studios seem to be ready to drop almost? Bend studio, sucker punch, team asobi, blue point, media molecule, naughty dog, all haven't dropped a new game in the last 4-5 years. That's usually how long games take to make. Either 2025 is going to be absolutely nuts, or maybe will get a shadow drop for one or two games this year?

Damn, I really hate this feeling that you need to rush games because they are leaving the service. I think that's why I now only buy games to play them at my own pace, whenever I want.

A lot of the times I complete and platinum the game in a span of over 6 months sometimes even a couple of years. Yeah, there's no way it would be available after such a long time. At least PS Plus Essential games are available forever as long as you have an active subscription or after you resubscribe.
If you were happy to buy a game anyway, it shouldn't really matter? Sub costs about as much as 2 new games but you can play however many games you like that year, and if you've got one on your list that gets removed then you can still buy it. Which is, like, the point.
Or, you could just buy them while being subbed. It's how I do my Game Pass because of the discount you get. I haven't been a subscriber to Plus in a while since they jumped the price up, but I assume they do a similar thing with discounts with Plus.
@@blackraven85_1 it's not a flat discount with Plus, just random games at random times during random sales, no way to really predict if or when a game will be discounted with Plus. Having said that, games rotate through the sales every few weeks so you rarely have to wait long for a reduced price unless you have very niche taste in games.

They could always renew it because I remember back 4 blood was supposed to be removed & I rushed through that game before it was gone. After their expiration, I didn't see it removed till this day it's still there. So hopefully they can work out some deal to keep some games on it still.

Everyone should stop reporting on the perception of how good or bad Square Enix games are doing sale wise. Square Enix just zigzag with it all the time.
Just play games and have fun, I would recommend getting a gaming Pc as you can get more out of it than a PlayStation 5.

If you bought them digitally off the ps store, then they should still be in your library

For everyone that has Ps Plus extra, play Final Fantasy X/X-2 before it leaves the service!
PC should have its own trophy list. It doesn't make sense to earn trophies for a list labeled PS5 when you are not even playing a PS5 version. That, or add the PC label to it, effectively making a new type of shared list like the PS4/3/Vita days
Achievements in steam can be easily obtained using the Steam Achievements Manager. Now they will be counted as an honest trophy in PlayStation. This is terrible because it is impossible to know whether the player really deserved the trophy or used a cheat. Again, steam messed everything up

There's a problem going on with Medievil on PS Plus right now that needs to be addressed, its currently unavailable on plus for people that own it on PS3, it is only available to purchase, some sort of license bug I guess ?
Some people said you could add it to your library on PS4, might be worth a try if you have one

@ConnorHavok Very good, I was going to say that was definitely a bug because it was automatically added to my library as permanent ownership from already having it on PS3. And this was when I bought it after purposely allowing my Plus to lapse, because I'd previously claimed it on Plus.

PlayStation Plus should make deals with 3rd party companies to bring more retro games to their subscription. Retro games are very popular right now and If Sony makes a deal with say Square Enix they can have games like the classic Final Fantasy games ready to play in their service every Final Fantasy game available would be amazing. Although I love Final Fantasy 7 on PS1 the Remake looks wonderful I played the first part but I enjoy the classic. Hopefully Square Enix makes Final Fantasy 7 and other Final Fantasy stuff movies and anime would be wonderful. I find it so great and generous that you are giving everyone crabs. Can someone explain to me the diffrences between FFVI remake and rebearth.

Is rebearth a sequel of 7?
FF7 Remake is sort of a "sequel" to the original FF7, FF7 Rebirth is the second part of the FF7 Remake. When I say "sort of a sequel" it's premise is that your in a "different" time line but similar to the original, but there is a lot in the story that a normal person that has never played FF7 wouldn't understand since it references it a lot.
So the original 4 disc is not full remake right?
What about integral dlc?
@@rsoub4086 FF7 remake story ends just before you would leave Midgar, in the original it takes about 2-3 hours to leave Midgar, not even before disc 1 ends, the original was only 3 discs by the way. I think the Intergral DLC was just some bonus stuff with Yuffie, I'm not sure since I didn't play it.
If you're making a direct comparison between the remake series and the ps1 game it's easiest to think of it like this:
Final Fantasy 7 ps1 (3 disks) - still worth checking out as there are slight story tweaks and references in the new games and you can usually pick it up for 10$ or less during various sales.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake - expands the beginning of the game, Midgar, to a full length game (Integrade DLC is a new background side story with Yuffie, in the original you can't recruit her until a while after leaving Midgar)
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Leaving Midgar to the explore the world map, covers and expands on everything up till around the end of disc 1
Final Fantasy 7 (Re?? - Not released yet) - Covers the rest of the game, disc 2 and disc 3 along with what other new plot points they're doing with the story.

I think the main reason XBOX has more best selling games right now is because people usually default to sony's games when they come out but there have been few playstation studio games lately
Ps5 pro needs to be fully backwards compatible or else it's waste of money to get it its not always about graphics it's about enjoying the other games from previous generation
Yeah it's unsurprising FF16 has reached a new younger audience despite the higher age rating. We've all known for the longest time that kids will play games that are mature rated - how many of us were playing stuff like GTA when we weren't "old enough"? - but publishers like Square will keep trying to push for a Teen rating for the broader audience.
