I really miss knitting and crocheting in bed. My M.E. & Fibro has gradually deteriorated to the “severe” category over the past 3 years and now I can no longer knit or crochet even with arthritis gloves/physio tape etc. and spend my days in bed with the tv or UA-cam on low so this has been a nice gentle watch for me that isn’t full of loud music, flashing lights/graphics. Thank you
oh my GOD you can knit... both sleeves... at once! I feel so dumb, I've never thought of that! It's so simple! Wow, the more you know...
I know!! Game changing. My Mum taught me that trick (thanks Mum!)
@@RetroClaude Well, thank you to your Mom also! That's fabulous.... I never thought of knitting both at the same time, such a game changer ❤️
Been knitting for over 40 years ans I haven’t learned to knit both sleves or both socks at the same time hope you feel better too
@@The_Crafting_Gamer if I ever try socks I will do both at once or I will be the classic one sock only completed!
I LOVE 2 at a time knitting. It's the only way I can knit pairs of things. A few years ago I knitted 2 pairs of knee high socks like it, 4 socks on 1 cable needle, it felt like it took forever, but I had 2 pairs of socks once I'd done.
I'm currently having a bad time health-wise and it is so nice to see you being honest about how much of a struggle this can be - thank you 💜
This video is such a disabled mood and I am HERE for it. The realities of merely existing as a disabled person can be so difficult, and it compounds when you have to work and/or be camera ready. I had such a bad pain/fatigue/extremity weakness day yesterday and this video was such a lift. I hope we both feel better soon.
Yes! I'm literally lying in bed slowly knitting while I watch this video!
I'm right there with you and all suffering with different illness's and abilities. It's tough but we are warrior's and we find we are stronger than we think. 💪🧡💛🙏
❤
Keep your spirits up. Like I posted before, their is an upside to being disabled was it could be worse; I was in the ER the other night where 2 of the other patients were in unbearable pain as they are dying. The worse symptom I have is pain when I try to walk and fatigue. I need a pot of coffee to energize me enough to stay awake so I can knit/ crochet
As someone with chronic illnesses and disability, seeing you persevere but also taking time for yourself when you need to is so relatable. Thank you for posting❤❤❤
I find that propping up my elbows with small soft pillows helps my neck, back, arm and shoulder discomfort. I love your videos ♡♡♡
Thank you for a lovely, gentle update. From a knitter in soggy Scotland - pointing a desk fan at drying knitwear seems to speed up the process beautifully.
I'll remember that tip, thank you! 💚
That’s great idea must give it a try
Pro tip: fan/portable heater is a good helper even in a landlocked unsoggy country, if you happen to live in an 18th century house that's never not slightly damp. :D
(Not the case for me anymore, but family still lives in that house so still a good thing to remember!)
I have Pots and EDS and I feel this video so so hard. I love making things, historical clothing, corsets, cosplay. But I also spend a lot of time in bed unable to leave it and kitting gives me a feeling of progress, of productivity. Thanks for this video because it makes me feel less alone.
I always get excited to see a new stashbusting video from you! The gloves are so gorgeous, like the perfect toasty warm color for keeping your hands cozy. The chevron jumper is looking gorgeous (I'm personally partial to that warm gradient so I love it) and I can't wait to see more on the Thrift-Tee sweater! Thank you for showing us your knitting progress when you were up for it - seeing what you are able to do and how you manage depending on how you're feeling is really helpful.
I like it too, plus I'm told the 70s are in again. Who knew? 💚
I make 'Fingerless' mitts with a 1/2 thumb. Gave up on knitting after 'dis' for a long time. I found a soft back rest pillow with elbow rests to help. Propping elbows with soft pillow supports neck and shoulder dis-ease.
Thank you for rising above your illness and videotaping your struggles and successes, most of the time I feel quite alone in my chronic illness, you have motivated me to keep knitting and take one day at a time, thank you ❤️ Also your gloves are gorgeous and I’m definitely knitting a pair! Well done🧶❤️🧶
No worries about not filming while knitting 💚I love just seeing what people are working on, even without seeing the process
I'm watching this while being stuck in bed in pain. I can't thank you enough for your lovely videos and for being frank about being ill. Your vibes and tone are inspiring but still relaxing, I always appreciate watching them while unwell.
Hi Claude, I have only just found your channel. What a refreshing vlog. You gave me such a boost. I have only recently been diagnosed with ME, September. It has been hard to get to grips with things since the beginning of this year. I am currently binged watching your past vlogs. Thank you for your ray of light in my currently grey, confused and limited life atm. ❤❤
I've had some similar days recently. Just hiding in a blanket working my way through the hats I decided everyone needed as Christmas presents! Thank you for showing the reality of chronic illness 💙💙
It's so lovely to have this. Today is a hard day but spending time with you has helped. Mellow videos help with how low I feel because there isn't a huge gap between your energy and mine. Be well.
I was going to say much the same thing. You saved me the energy. ☺️ I spent half of October in the hospital, so my big accomplishment has been watching my long list of spooky, fun Halloween movies this month.
I'm glad I could be with you today 💚
@@RetroClaude 💕
The sense of not being alone is so helpful, isnt it?
@@DorisS75 We with chronic illness and disabilities really benefit from company! ❤️❤️❤️
Not a knitter but enjoy discovering how other people with chronic illnesses deal with hard days. ❤
Thanks for sharing:) I have a disability as well and lately it's been too painful for me to knit, which makes me very sad at times. I find you so relatable and can find comfort in your realistic shots. So thank you Claude!!!! Oh and your projects are looking lovely as always ❤️
I found you when watching engineering knits and it was in recommended! Im disabled and knit too! I think youre being too hard on yourself, you did a lot of good progress! I know my knitting has to go super slow because of my pain, so Im amazed at what you got done, especially with how small and delicate the work you are doing is. The sweater and gloves look great!
Love your update! No stress about the aesthetics of filming, love listening to you share your journey while I'm focusing on my own knitting (have been binging your previous videos as well). Take care of your self and your health! Love those gloves!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been having a hard time with fatigue the last few weeks and seeing someone else push through for silly self imposed deadlines makes me feel a bit less alone 💜 I hope October was less hard on you 💜
Thank you! Pacing is hard and I don't always get it right and then I get mad at myself for doing stupid things. But we try 💚
The struggle is real and hard sometimes. Somehow we find a way to waddle through the pain, and stickiness. We stand stronger together.💪🙏🧡💛
Those gloves are gorgeous, perfect autumn colour and pattern.
So sorry you've been struggling. The pain is palpable and very real. Thank you for even using your precious energy to make the video. May your noggin come clear very soon. Sending love.
You poor dear...prayers for you. I am fighting terminal cancer and have gone through a total gastrectomy in the past year...working with yarn somehow soothes my spirit.
Your gloves are beautiful! I've seen that pattern and you did such a lovely job.
When your health is unstable, things get wonky, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I was inspired by your original stash-busting video and, once it got cool enough in my corner of the world, photographed and cataloged all of my yarn. I have even more than you and it's disconcerting. Then I caught COVID (for the second time, despite vaccines and boosters.) This did give me the time to finish a granny square blanket I'd started in 2016 and although I hated crocheting all the squares together, I love the finished blanket. It's large enough for one person and a 80/20 acrylic/wool, so it's machine washable, soft, and cozy. I finished another blanket, hated it, and ripped the whole thing out. There's something up with the increases in that pattern: they just don't lie flat. Third, I made a modified pair of Triangulation Mitts by Sybil R - she has a ton of mitt, glove, and mitten patterns that are constructed in very interesting ways. I'm now working on a pair of Starburst Mitts, also from Sybil R. I messed up a few times and am on my third go. This was my fault, not the pattern's.
I have a chronic illness and chronic fatigue, on top of post-COVID lethargy. I'm supposed to be designing a hat, but my brain just won't do it, so it's on hold until I have the brainpower for it. Same goes for finishing a mostly-completed capelet I designed. I see you. I see you.
Thank you for another lovely update. Keep getting better. The home remedy in my family for everything is a cheeseburger. They don't address any specific symptoms but they make us feel better whatever the diagnosis. :)
Sounds like my sort of medicine 🍔
Dear Claude. I just discovered you! Love your channel. I don't think of it as a disability, but I go thru times when I can't walk. I can't work right now but I don't feel shut in because I have a huge stash of yarn. I do mostly Irish Crochet but regular crochet too.and knitting. The gloves you are making are absolutely beautiful. I love them!
Claude: "I've got my wheat bag:
Me: "I really want mine.." *goes downstairs to heat it up before watching the rest of the video.
What is a wheat bag?
Went and filled my hot water bottle halfway through! :'D
@@Grace-ms7un It's like a cherry pit cushion but with wheat grains (I think it's the husk of the grains that they use?) I guess?
I'm gluten free (even react to being around regular flour), so I have a rice bag
I love this stashbusting series and how creative you are with using up all the little bits! It's inspiring me to come up with a scrappy project.
Honestly my favourite series on UA-cam right now 😊
Same here!
I've just found your channel! So happy to have found your content!
I do find your no nonsense commentry refreshing. Hope your health refreshes as the seasons evolve. Nice gloves too
Those gloves are like sitting by a toasty open fire! Delicious. The chevron jumper looks wonderful! Love the warm autumnal colours in there. :) I always love your stash busting videos, and the slower pace was good to watch. Keeping it real.
I have only just found you but have spent my week going back and catching up on some of your other podcasts. Knitting is so good for us and your makes are lovely. I am eager to see you use that stash up. Well a good portion x
I love watching you slowly working through your stash!!! you have inspired me to get back to crochetting and to burn through some of my stash as well!! thanks:D
I'm sorry September ended up being so rough for you. Love the gloves and the jumper! Perfect fall vibes honestly. Hope you were able to get those sleeves blocked and jumper sewn up to enjoy in their proper autumnal weather 💖
Thank you for this series and keeping it going even when you’re ill, really enjoying it.
you are amazing Claude, never diminish who you are or your abilities of the moment. I have fibromyalgia, and the pain is sometimes so bad that I lay in bed crying, but I do bits and pieces here and there and these bring me joy. Love you from Canada. These bits would be great for some granny squares for caps, scarf or even a throw for your bed... 💝💗💯
I found you today, what a fighter you are 😊
I found you as I crochet and get over a surgical heart procedure, and have a desire to stash bust too. I really enjoy you and look forward to looking at past episodes and finding more to come
Love from Canada 🍁 😊
😃!! I kid you not. This was my exact face when I saw your video. I'm so sorry to hear you've been sick. I saw your community post. Hopefully now that you've been posting again, you're feeling better.
I'm totally okay with no asthetic shots. You're a very good story teller, and it's really fun just to listen to you talk about it. Cheers and good health! (I also might check out those gloves, I've got a skein of fingering weight purple yarn to use up...)
I'm doing a bit better thanks, or at least I'm doing a bit more consistent which makes working easier ☺️
Well done! The final photoshoot reminds me of the Taylor Swift All Too Well video a bit with the lipstick and the autumnal colours. I love this series, can't wait to see what October brings :)
I don't really knit, I can but prefer crochet. There's something very satisfying about watching all the tiny loops turn into something soft & warm. It's my way of giving hugs & comfort to those I care about when I am not with them. Now & then I do make something for myself! I'm glad you felt better by the end. I have advanced Rheumatoid & just got through an awful 2 week flare as well. It took me a whole week to finish just 4 hours worth of needle felting. I just never know from day to day or even from morning to night what is going to happen next, so I just try to go with it & do what I can. It's my hobbies that get me through the toughest times. Thanks for sharing.
I fell in love with the glove pattern when you first shared it, and I still love them now that you've finished them; I'll definitely have to make them as my "wear to protect my poor atopic hands the moment it gets a bit chillier" pair. :-)
Hi! UA-cam recommended me your yarn organization video and while I am a crocheter not a knitter, I'm so invested in seeing you work through all your yarn! I subscribed, woo stash busting! I am currently in my last year of a master's program, when we go on break between semesters, I need to organize my giant bin of yarn so I have a better idea of what I have! I don't really like Ravelry's yarn system, I am missing the labels for a lot of yarns. I'm thinking of creating a yarn database in Excel for my stash! I created a book database already, how hard could a yarn database be!
I wish you well, hoping you can enjoy relaxing time and knitting time too :)
Such stunning talent, I am truly amazed!
The gloves are so pretty, they totally deserved their own shoot! I'd use sweter remainders for another gloves or a matching scarf (maybe triangle?)
Your falling leaves gloves photoshoot made me smile. Love the gloves.
Just found you and almost straight away I wondered if you had ME. I’ve been pretty much housebound for 11 months with long Covid so I totally understand. Thank goodness for knitting.
This is so encouraging! Thank you so much!
Thank you for a lovely, calm video. It's always good to see you. And I admire the amount of knitting you finished :)
Thanks for another great video!
I do think you were being to hard on yourself but we all do that from time to time.
The gloves are lovely. Both you and the gloves deserved that photoshoot :)
I hope you continue to feel better
Your a trooper Claude! Thanks for the update😊
The chevron jumper is going to be gorgeous. Love the colours. The gloves are beautiful.
Those falling leaves gloves are lovely, and the rest of your work is so nice. Much love and hope u feel better soon xxx
Also have ME and new to this channel. Feeling the knitting in bed/while resting vibe. Slow but sure is the way forward 😊 thanks for sharing your makes. I’m now off to continue a baby blanket I’m knitting.
Rest up and take it easy x
Very inspiring, as always! I love your free patterns ideas. Please take it easy and rest as much as you need.
🙂I'm so happy to see you back. I find the way you knit such interesting vintage patterns inspiring and I'm sorry you've been sick
You did such a good job Claude! The gloves are so lovely. I hope you feel better in October ❤
Thank you for keeping it real! Still very lovely work!
Beautiful gloves! I love the jumper, too. Looking forward to the next video. 😀
Way to go on your stash--you are making progress.
Thank you for sharing! I've been struggling with chronic illness for a couple of years now, and a bad flare for 2 months. Knitting and crochet are my destress but I haven't hardly been able to do them with feeling so poorly.
In bed as I watch. Ooh I can relate to this video. Please take good care. Good to have ME company, sorry though. I love your gloves and the ombre in the sweater. And the bunny mug LOL. 💜
Love the gloves! All success should be celebrated :)
You are a beautiful knitter ! Love your work! Thank you very much ❤❤❤❤❤❤
thankyou. Love the gloves and love your coat at the end. Gorgeous photoshoot.
A really lovely kind video, thank you
I appreciated the reality of this video, as I watched it also stuck in bed only able to do small amounts of mindless craft right now
Nice to see you again even though I am sorry that you were feeling unwell! The chevron knit looks nice! ❤😁
Gorgeous gloves!!! Feel better soon!!!
I hope you are feeling better!! I love how you can always smile. Beautiful gloves and color.
I'm looking forward to seeing the video on that top you were wearing in the end bit. It's so cute!
Hugs to you! Ellerslie Danlos over here (hypermobility) it's rough sometimes but we will just keep encouraging each other ❤️
I hope next month is better for you. Gloves are lovely, and I'm loving the jumper too.
You are incredibly talented!!!
Those gloves are gorgeous! Really love the colour and I might have to have a go myself. Your videos are always so wholesome and a pleasure to watch. Hope you have a better November. 😊
Wishing you the best!
I wanted to say how much I am enjoying spending time with you. I am beginning rehab after a total knee replacement and you have been great to keep me company. I love all things sewing and knitting. I spend my sewing time quilting now. Thank you😊❤️
You are just so talented. Amazing, amazing work!! I crochet but I think knitting is just so difficult! What beautiful work you do!!
It's lovely to see your makes.I am 69 have always loved 1940's jumpers even when I was 17 .I am lucky to have original patterns from my gran.I have always used these patterns so I have never found them confusing.I love Susan Crawford yarns as the colours are so beautiful and look like 1940's.
Hi Claude - just found you ❤️
I've had ME over 24 years & for the first 3 years I could not knit. I did mainly tapestries & a lot of sleeping.
Even now I find it hard to follow patterns sometimes so have had to organise my knitting accordingly. This results in many WIP that need blocking & sewing up.
To help me keep track I've recently started to keep a record of WIP, kits to knit & yarn in my stash generally.
Having watched your stash organisation video, I think you would probably faint if you saw my stash..... I have destashed twice in the past, but I'm a hoarder 😄
Over the years, I've also been diagnosed with EDS & several other things. I've fractured my left elbow, wrist & hand in 3 separate accidents, which is why I like try & knit daily.
Aww hun I hope you're feeling better soon. ❤️
The reveal was so heartwarming for some reason 🌷
I love your videos, I hope you feel better soon ♥️
Watching this from bed and can completely relate! Thank you for showing us the realness! Also swift and ballwinders are life changing, I just have trouble with mine staying attached to the table for some reason 😂
Another lovely video!
Best wishes to you.
Great video! I didn’t find this video boring at all and I think you’re videos are so great because they are authentic and so are you. Everything you make is so unique and amazing I’m in awe of that fairisle top you were wearing in the kitchen 🥰
Sending a hug and thank you for the courageous honesty 💐💐💐
Your gloves look fantastic!
The gloves are EVERYTHING 😍 I just started my first lace project and it's a complete mess, so I am super in awe of your skill 💜
I love the colors and pattern of the sweater! The gloves are beautiful as well!
I've been watching your videos for about a week or two and I love what you do. I recently started knitting more and also more complex stuff (currently working on my first jumper) and I find your videos very inspiring and motivating. And yes to knitting in bed when you're having a bad health day.
I would use the leftovers from the gloves to knit a little net bag for your gloves that closes well so you can store them together over the warm season and not lose track of one. But is also a beautiful colour for some Color work too.
I've just recently found your channel and I feel seen as a chronically ill knitter! Thank you for sharing your exciting stashbusting progress as well as where you've been at.
i hope you can be less hard on yourself ! i think you're doing so great and i always love love what you make!! even / especially the accidental 70s vibes. im rly excited for the video on your tee it looks so fascinating and i love all the textures! 💚
Sitting here through ANOTHER storm, thank you for this video, it was definitely a pick me up.
Yea! The gloves deserved their own video!! Just found you and thank you for your podcast
The gloves are beautiful. You are definitely inspirational.
That chevron jumper is soo lovely and I really like the colour scheme. 😍
Those gloves are beautiful! 💚🧶
Your knitting is so beautiful! Best wishes from New Zealand.
The gloves are gorgeous!!!! I love this stashbusting series, it feels so satisfying, I think at some point I would need to find the courage to do something like this...Hope you are feeling better, I am resonating with a different constant battle with fatigue/low energy/depression. thanks for sharing and keeping it real 🌻
I am so impressed with your work, I cannot keep up with the complexity of keeping count of stitches, so I am very limited in what I can make. I hope you feel much better soon!
