My Plans For a Tough Year Ahead on YouTube

  • I'm under no illusion that the next year is going to be difficult for me. Not just in terms of my health but in terms of money. I need to find a way to adapt my content so that I can still make videos even though I can no longer sew.
I have some ideas but they're by no means fully fleshed out yet. I'd love to know what you think or if you have any suggestions for how I can make it through this difficult time.
For sources about poverty in the UK:
Much of the data comes from the Joseph Roundtree Foundation:
    www.jrf.org.uk/
I used this table from Trust For London to easily understand the data and see how it compares:
    trustforlondon.org.uk/data/po...
I must admit seeing this data like this was shocking to me. In many ways I consider myself extremely privileged. But the impartial facts of my life are that I am completely dependent on the charity of my friends and family. I am incredibly lucky to have that but seeing just how desperate my position would be without they're support was a shock. Do I personally consider myself destitute? No. But the fact my reality is a choice between living off of the charity of my parents and destitution has certainly made me feel more vulnerable.
So I hope you'll understand that what I'm trying to do here is not just make more money because I want that Influencer Flex Lifestyle. I'm just trying to build some financial security into my life through the only means that is currently available to me.
☕You will have heard me mention my Ko-fi members so I thought I'd explain a little more about how that works. Ko-fi is a platform where you can tip your favourite creators for the work they produce by buying them 'a cup of coffee'. You can do a one off tip or sign up to contribute every month from as little as £3 (the price of a cup of coffee, get it?) This regular donation entitles you to exclusive content only available on Ko-fi. In my case my Ko-fi members get access to my videos 24hrs before everyone else, the chance to participate in giveaways where I give away things I've made, and they get exclusive updates about what I've been working on. I really couldn't make these videos without them. They cover the cost of all the supplies I buy for sewing and knitting projects so I can keep on doing this. I like the idea of "Comfy Claude"! Many people have pain or mobility issues. Besides your own comfort you could also feature clothing designs that help people in wheelchairs, or folks with arthritis, or medical devices that they must carry. Finding ways to make accessible clothing look more fashionable, or maybe make store fashions more accessible. You can talk about the benefits of different fabrics, or cool ways to add useful pockets, change buttons, or make non-clothing items that can be sewn just for extra convenience so folks don't have to do as many tiring or painful actions.

Sorry late to the party! Gretchen Hirsch has a great book "Gertie Sews Vintage casual" which focuses on sportswear and casual clothes in 40's and 50's style. You could look at something along those lines, perhaps making a few items that people then would have considered casual or comfy clothes. I would also happily watch a video with you just chatting about the subject, as elastic, zippers and all kinds of "performance" fabrics first launched in the 30s- 50s. Chatting through your process of sewing in short bursts and the compilations are great ideas. As a new mum, having something I can just hit play on while I'm small person wrangling is brilliant! Much love and looking forward to seeing how your channel develops 😊 Be kind to yourself!

Suggestion for the videos: re-order your playlists so that the videos play in chronological order, rather than most recent first? I love watching the stash down series, especially when I’m working on my own stash down project. Right now, if I press ‘play all’ it plays the most recent first and then backwards, as opposed to in chronological order, and following the projects. For the people who want to watch the entire playlist, it makes it easier for us to just let the whole thing play, including mid-roll ads.

@@reginafranklin9659you actually can, on the UA-cam app (so to not desktop afaik). It doesn't save your changes if the playlist isn't yours, but while you are watching you can reorder videos by dragging and dropping them to different spots. JUST discovered this after using UA-cam for 12 years lol.

Idea for the 15 minute sewing sessions: What I've seen a lot of minecraft youtubers do is they upload short episodes on whatever schedule they use, and when a project is finished they upload a long video with all the short episodes combined.
You could do the same with the 15 minute sewing sessions. Upload the 15 minutes when you can, and then do a big compilation of it when you've finished a particular thing?

I love the idea of the "sew in 15" series as I can only work on a sewing project in 15-20 minute chunks before needing to stop and rest.

Hi! I'm so glad to see a video from you. Some thoughts:
    1. Have you thought about a podcast? Maybe just chats with other crafters in your life, UA-camrs or not? Usually, podcasts result in long videos, and they wouldn't require you to physically make anything. You could even upload just the audio with a still image rather than a video if filming is too much.
    2. Here in the US, many libraries have 3D printers and makerspaces. I know libraries don't work in exactly the same way in the UK, but maybe it's something to look into?
    3. Have you tried punch needle? That might be a fun craft to add to your list?
    4. I like the idea of a short for each chunk of sewing, then a long video at the end. I would definitely watch those!
    5. Knitting and crochet skill videos do pretty well, too!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next. 😊

I could write ten paragraphs about all the issues you've raised about disability and crafting, but I would be preaching to the choir. I think you're doing the best anyone could possibly expect under difficult circumstances and it would be absurd to think that optimizing your channel and labor is just a craven cash grab. You're doing great and your ideas for the future sound like shorts and videos I'd love to watch.
One idea: I'd love to see Make Do and Mend videos. I have a lot of clothes I don't wear because they need a short fix, but I'm caught up in making a new garment instead. This applies to both off-the-rack clothes and garments I've made myself. If you're doing 15-minute videos, that sounds like a great opportunity to talk about the value of Make Do and Mend, as well as the nuts and bolts of how to mend things well (I support people who like visible mending, but it's not my aesthetic most of the time and it wouldn't be appropriate for my work clothes).

    • @ladyflimflam
      @ladyflimflam 6 місяців тому +23

Was looking for a mending comment to upvote. Also, 10 minute or 15 minute fixes to ready to wear, that is, short alterations. There are all kinds of thrift flips, but often tweaks are more appropriate. Many of us don’t want something new out of our clothes, we just want them to fit a little better.

Yes! Mending videos and techniques are great. Also, how to modify a _____ to fit a [situation]. So things about how you are modifying clothing to be more wheelchair friendly would probably help lots of people, for instance. Adaptive clothing is a whole thing, and most people who need it can’t afford to buy it retail, so ideas for how to adapt it (does that make it adaptive squared??) would probably be really helpful.

For the 15 minute idea, do all three! Shorts to show off quickly what you made, qt minute videos of your thought process and progress (even if it just trying to find your scissors- I laughed so hard thinking of watching a sewing video of someone trying to find there scissors or anything else that they put down and immediately forgot where) and a compilation video so we can find all the info and fun in one place. I love you channel and can’t wait to see what you post next!

To be honest. I don’t even sew! I started watching your channel through the knitting and crochet videos.
But Ive also watched your sewing videos. Just because it’s interesting and also because you’re a very real and honest human being. You’re honest about your struggles, feelings and success during times you’re struggling.
My point is that sometimes, you just follow a channel because you know that persons content and character is just good for your mental health. Seeing videos everywhere online with people who’s lives seem so perfect is not reality and isn’t good for mental health. So whether you’re sewing, knitting, painting, crocheting or any other craft I’m just happy to watch your videos 😊

I was a professional tailor with a chronic pain disability (much like you), and I owned my own business, I also managed a tailor shop with 6 employees under me. I have since married, and after a miscarriage the doctor told me I had to choose between kids and work. Sewing and tailoring was my passion, but the stress became too much, and I couldn't work more than half days each day, and it became to stressful for the people I worked with so I quit, but not after I learned some techniques to keep my pain and overall Physical stress as low as I could, I started by cutting out my patterns on butcher paper instead of the tissue paper and using pattern weights/canning jar weights instead of pins, making sure my sewing table, chair and sewing machine were set to the right height, only pin when absolutely nessessary, because the smaller the muscles you use the more energy it takes as well as the more stress on the overall body, when cutting I marked the fabric with tailors chalk so if I needed to readjust for comfort I could, and I did most of the work I could sitting at my sewing chair that was a top of the line adjustable computer chair or gaming chair I found second hand, or you could use just a very ergonomically friendly chair. Those are the tips I can think of off the top, but I learned a lot of this because the chronic pain disorder runs in my family, and we have learned from each other, oh and one big one is it really helps to do something you are passionate about as a career, it really makes a difference in your overall health.

For the 15 minute chunk sewing, that’s actually how I sew 90% of the time. University eats up almost all my waking hours, so I work in 15 minutes increments, either sewing, pinning or pressing a bunch of seams, working in batches. So it’s a feasible way to work!!

You should do more on crafting with chronic illness/disability videos. Ask on instagram and community tab what these crafters would like to address, collar with other crafters in the same situation and maybe do collaboration and maybe joint projects where each of you can do a part based on their physical ability. This will be amazing to help other crafters find ways to craft without breaking down physically and/or mentally. Utilise your experience in costuming and do commentary videos on popular shows. Do little shorts where you make a snap commentary on one costume in one historic drama, or just advise as experienced sewist on contemporary fashion and what to look for when shopping. Wishing you a great year ahead xx

Still in midst of watching this but I want to say that I love the idea of Comfy Claude! As a person who also manages chronic pain, and who used to love clothing (esp vintage), I have become entirely disinterested in everything that is uncomfortable. And given my age and stage (53 yo woman), I don't anticipate the urge is going to come back, even though I have to come to terms with that. You don't have to knit (or sew) much, I suspect. People watch you because you intrigue or inspire them. It's as much about who you are and how you present your content as it is about the craft element. FWIW, though I was a serious sewist for years and did a lot of vintage and tailoring sewing, I don't really love watching content about sewing. For some bizarre reason, I do love watching people talk about knitting. Who can say why. But if you speak interestingly about anything, I'll watch! So I think that's entirely to your advantage. K

I am a handicapped sewist and knitter who lives with chronic neck pain and loves your channel, I wanted to make a suggestion. I find that if I lower my chair and/or raise my sewing machine even just a couple inches to not have to look down quite so much increases the amount of time I can spend actually sewing. Even if it gets you 20 minutes of sewing instead of 15 before you have to break, then it might make things a little better.

My partner has “incomplete” paraplegia, meaning that he has a certain amount of neural activity below the point of his injury.
Ironically, sitting down causes painful spasticity, so he works standing up whenever possible. Having discovered that a knee control doesn’t work for him, he now has the foot pedal on a table, and the sewing machine on blocks. He’s sewn entire pavilions this way.
(It filled our house with So. Much. Fabric. but resulted in an amazing striped party tent.)

I was also wondering if raising your sewing machine or even the entire table might be helpful. Perhaps trying different heights (1cm higher, or two or three) so you could compare if it makes a difference. Sorry, I know this is not a solution to all the issues at all, but maybe it might make the 15 mins a bit more comfortable. Wishing you the very best!

I think the "Do all three" approach is brilliant! Get as much content out of the same investment of energy as possible. Once you are practiced in it, you should be able to bang them out fairly quickly. Also, very much looking forward to see the "Down the Rabbit Hole" stuff. You have been so great at teaching in between doing other things that I think it will be a lot of fun seeing you teaching intentionally in longer form. Congrats on figuring out so many things that can help you. I have an additional one: "Make Do and Mend Your Thrifts," by taking those thrifted ready to wear items and making them work for you. So many of us would love to have those skills and that could add a lot to your list of the tutorial style videos (maybe). Please don't worry about seeming "cash-grabby" since we all know better. :)

I'm excited for the 6 hour stash busting video. I'd rewatch project specific compilations too, like the saga of that crochet blanket.
It might be really funny to do a "every time I lost my scissors" B roll supercut.
I'm really eager for shorts. The 15 minute seems well suited for that somehow. I'm imagining a sped up clip of the whole 15 minutes with a summary of what you got done at the end.
Something I'm really interested in but I don't see a lot of (& I don't know if it's because most people actually find it boring or it's hard to make) is analysis of garments. like you could pick a ready to wear garment, talk about the construction, and how you'd do it differently. Like the Feng shui fix guy but for sweaters, iunno.
Finally I'm immediately invested in hearing your thoughts if you try spinning. I just started with a little electric wheel, almost entirely prompted by Roxanne Richardson talking about how she got into spinning.

As for trying diamond painting, I used to do it before the pandemic, it was quite straining for my neck and shoulder though. Just in case nobody else has suggested this: what about different sewing tools and helpers. Scissors versus rotary blades. Snippers, threading helpers...and especially what are easier, steadier or lighter to use. Made a plump sewing cushion a couple of years back and wondered why the heck didn't I make one earlier. No need to bend down over the work. The work comes up to you and pinning the sewing to it frees one hand. Wishing you all the best for your future!

    Long videos: yes!!
    Comfy Claude: yes!!
    Claude rambles: yes!!
Maybe a video idea; talk about vintage knitting terms, language, etc etc.
I don’t see ads because I have a paid youtube account thing, does that help financially for the videos I watch?
I put on videos and sew/crochet for hours.
    See you next time!!

I work in social media so I have a few thoughts (but ultimately do whatever works for you)
Compilations are a good idea. If you have the capacity to edit this, another use of old content would be topic specific compilations. 'Every finished item reveal' 'Every time Retro Claude sews the wrong seam'. Silly catchy content will bring in a large new audience and appear in the recommended section.
For talking head specific videos my recommendations to drive engagement are drama and familiarity. For drama, telling stories from your career or about famous people in the industry. Thumbnails can be as bold or clickbaity as you like. For familiarity, 'Seamstress reacts to X' Pick films people are already familiar with, cult classics, TikToks, anything with a lot of traction already that you can ride the wave of.
    Hope this helps :)

Wow, I'm so excited for all the new and possibly weird things to come on this channel. I also wanted to say thank you for being honest about what's going on for you. Due to ever-increasing health issues I haven't worked for nearly 3 years outside of contract work that is an hour at a time. It is so validating to hear someone else say they can't work for more than 10hrs a week - I currently can only work about 2hrs a day spread out through the day, and if I work too hard it can lay me out for a day or two. You have motivated me to take small steps, listen to my body, and gently but firmly tell people when I can or can't do something. I will continue to have your videos on in the background while I sew, and the compilation videos sound amazing. Bug hus from the US. ❤

I am also disabled and I love sewing but I can only do it for short amount of time. I also use mobility device and you just need comfortable clothes to use one for long period of time.
Also, I would love to watch video content from you about costume design. As in videosof you giving your commentary about costumes in different forms of media or tips and tricks from theatrical costuming. These would be really informative and wouldn't require you to do any actual sewing.

How about sewing smaller items like accessories? Maybe a small pillow, basket, armrest, neck pillow for a wheelchair? Or personal accessories like a bonnet or fingerless gloves, or something useful like a sachet or project bag? I like the "try new hobbies" idea. Some thoughts: felting, Swedish Weaving (Huck embroidery), or making clay or bead stitch markers. I would also love to learn about differences between wools, ply numbers and type of yarn twist. I often find myself guessing on good yarn substitutions so that would be super useful. Really anything you decide to do I will watch, even if it's just talking about your day!

Could you alter the thrifted garments in 15 min chunks? I love upcycling/mending videos, but I know sometimes altering existing items takes as long as making it from scratch!

I am excited for your 'plans', and I am really glad you are feeling optimistic about them. All of the ideas sound great, and I too try to give myself options so I can work on something depending on how I feel. If I had to pick one, 'Claude trying stuff' is honestly the one I would look forward to the most. Based on previous videos (the owl costume comes to mind) where you are just winging it 😋, it will result in a great video. I do realize those won't really be low energy, so no pressure whatsoever. If you do have a go with woodworking or electronics, I would be happy to help as best I can from afar. In terms of 3D printing, local libraries or universities might have some available to use in a 'maker space' (at least that is what they are called in the States...) In any case, I am thankful that you can at least see a way forward, and have been blessed with the stubbornness to give it a go. Till next time, take care.

    Hi!
Just here to tell you that I love your channel and have been following for a bit more than a year now, and I'm always happy when a video of yours comes out !
Even if I'm not physically disabled myself, I have some day-to-day restrictions to sewing - space, money, time, energy, that sort of thing, and "make it work as I need to" is really important. I really love that this is a space where productivity is not valued over everything else, especially not before our wellbeing and there really is a need for more of that in my life. Thank you very much !

I would totally watch any of the video ideas you suggested. I really wish you the best for your year. Also, an idea about the pottery (I took it for a few years in high school)- you could try hand building (aka not throwing on a wheel), or try air dry clay (wouldn't require a kiln). Maybe making little things could be easier on you than larger things (little trinket dishes, mini bowls etc). And you could try making little things with polymer clay and painting them, my sister likes to make mini fruits and vegetables and paints them with gouache. I've also seen some cute polymer clay jewelry on etsy like earrings and pendants (even as simple as an oval with some little flowers painted in the middle)

My experience is that stained glass is quite physical, particularly neck wise. When I had neck problems from years at the computer, I ran across the idea of elevating my work with a pillow in my lap for reading, working on iPad, and doing hand work; it helped a surprising amount by keeping my head at a neutral angle. I love podcasts, so that idea has my vote!

Working in ½ hour chunks was a suggestion my psychologist made early on, & I'm surprised at what I've achieved, mostly handsewn. Because I like Harajuku style, I can be a bit more random in how I construct things, but I would love to see how you can adapt your own designs to this short burst technique. What about community craft project? I’ve seen quilters have people send in quilted squares and then the UA-camr sews the squares together to make one big quilt. I don’t know if sewing long strips of quilted squares together would be something of interest, but maybe knitted or crochet’d squares in whatever knitted or crocheted design and then you arrange and assemble them and make a larger blanket? The community projects could then be sold and money donated to charity. Or sold and money used to fund a trip for you to go to a textile museum and create educational context for your viewers. You could pick a theme for the “quilt/blanket” and your viewers would stick to that theme. Just an idea :)

All of your ideas sound so great! Talking head videos, Claude Tries New Things, Comfy Claude, tuition-type stuff, and the 15-minute sewing are all particularly interesting to me.
Also the other day I was thinking about the 2022 Not New Year's Eve Livestream and how much fun it was to just sit there and watch you make pom poms--I was knitting, myself, I think?--and it occurs to me now that it might be a fourth way of using the content for the 15-minute projects (or other projects for that matter). If you livestreamed your 15 minutes, you wouldn't have to feel obligated to talk to the camera or anything, or even to announce it ahead of time; you could just turn the camera on and people could pop in to see what you were doing and work on their own projects too if they felt like it. I don't know how monetization works for livestreams, or for rewatches of livestreams, so I don't know if it would be worthwhile, but I sometimes find it fun as a viewer to do that sort of body-doubling thing, working on a project while someone else works on theirs, and possibly the livestreaming might bring in new viewers(?).
Honestly, I'm just really excited to see anything you get up to. This is one of my favorite channels, and I'm very happy that you plan to continue. I have ME and migraines (and other stuff) too, and it's really fun and heartening to see not only your own disability representation but also all the people in the comments talking about their own disability crafting hacks and trading tips with each other. It's especially fun to begin to recognize commenters over time. You've built a very nice community here, and I hope we can make you feel supported.

And I bet the 15 minute increments sewing will work out well when you’re feeling up for trying it. I actually often sit down in 15 minute or less chunks as I work from home, and I can just go and get a quick thing done during lunch or waiting on my tea kettle or whatever. It's so good seeing you looking more enthusiastic and you have some GREAT ideas, not to mention all the ideas in the comments, wow! I can see that your brain storming board is quite full already but if you run out of ideas maybe I can suggest historical doll making. Like, you make complete historical outfits but in a tiny size. I've made a few and its fiddly but satisfying. It's also MUCH more accessible than full size garments. For example if you need to embroider a decorative border, you need to make just 10 cm, not meters and meters... maybe done in 15 minutes, not 15 days! I've found some videos from Michael Canadas helpful and interesting but it's a lot of info available out there. Im looking forward to your upcoming videos, whatever you decide to do😊

I agree with the idea of making all the videos from one session of talking/filming/sewing.
Maybe a talking head Livestream (with someone else moderating chat) and the last 15 mins being a timed sewing session.
Then release the edited talking head section as a video, parts of it as shorts, comedy shorts of you laughing when you mess up, how-to sewing videos or shorts.
Also maybe a long, unedited real-time sewing video, Slow Living style.
    Also, Preview shorts like teasers/trailers.
Reaction/commentary Livestreams with chat (again, with help from others) where you talk about your older videos (some people will go back to watch the old videos, double your money), or about clothing and knitwear in historical dramas (fair use)

Multiple 15-minute blocks that take us through a project, whatever it is, with some voice-over while video of you searching for your scissors is sped up and other such shenanigans. A collage of progress pictures at the end of 15 minutes, which could be a reel/short with voice-over. Bianca, @theclosethistorian, does all sped-up videos and voice-over and she goes on tangents. For 3d printing, maybe you could look around at libraries or other public spaces in your area? I'm not sure how it is where you are, but in the US (even though I live in very small town), a lot of libraries near me have a 3d printer that they let visitors use. It's usually only the filament in that costs anything. I also second adding bookbinding to try and reordering playlists that other people have recommended. Sea Lemon is a great channel for bookbinding techniques.
Maybe try scrapbooking or paper art in addition to bookbinding? I personally love putting on videos like that in the background even if there isn't really a voiceover or any broader point to it. You could also make a compilation of your shortform content once there's a sizable library to add another full video if that wasn't suggested already.
Additionally, maybe you could make a few videos just talking through various pattern recommendations? I often go to makers with a similar aesthetic for compilations of patterns, even if they're going off of visuals and construction and haven't personally made them. Since you have a professional background in sewing and garment construction, you could probably provide insight that other people might not have. A lot of the time, these just have people showing the screen of what they're talking through, so it (might) be a lighter lift to film.
(After this point in the comment I'm just spitballing from my own work. It might be completely out of left field. I apologize for how long this is.)
-But perhaps you could make some type of merch once you've found more stability? There is an overhead cost for manufacturing, but something like a limited preorder could make it feasible. I'm not sure what would be a good candidate in terms of staying within a general 'brand identity', but I do think many people who come back to watch your channel would be very willing to order something small like a keychain or prints/stickers, both of which have a low MOQ and low shipping costs/packaging requirements. The little bit of freelance/self employment I do is all merch design/product manufacturing related so it's what I'm wired to think about first lol

Claude Directs the Production - you plan a project and have minions carry it out and teach them bits while you go. That would be great for those of us trying to figure out how to make sense of patterns and fabric and notions while being less tiring for you and giving you the heady thrill of bossing folks around. ;)

As someone who can also only work very limited hours a week - thank you so much for sharing this. Trying to work with a chronic condition is scary and hard, and it means so much to me that you talk about it. It makes me feel less alone. Will be here for whatever content you end up creating, hoping that 2024 goes better for you.

I've watched all the individual stash-busting videos and let me tell you how excited I am for that compilation! I know you are having to 'scale back' how you are working, but the ideas that you talked about here have made me even more excited for your channel in the coming months. Stay well, and thank you for your work!

I like watching shorter parts with a compilation afterwards. It’s a big bonus that you get to reuse your work. And I would absolutely love shorts of ‘Claude searching for her scissors’! 😂

My favorite videos on UA-cam are people fixing thrift finds. I know only the very basics of sewing so i can't sew the clothes i want but i want to fix the clothes i have. Adding pockets, dying knits, changing the neck line, fitting jeans- i would watch hours and hours of that content

Claude, I'm always delighted to see you've posted a new video. I arrived because of the sewing, I stay because of who you are as a person, AND for the encouragement re:: sewing with a disability. At present I'm setting the timer for 20 minutes in the sewing room. Sometimes I can go a smidge longer. I'm so grateful for the "figure out what works when normal isn't an option" community you have here. We all learn from each other as well as from you. I'll watch whatever you post. Do what works. I love rabbit trails. Your honestly talking of your situation is valuable to many. Not that any of us want our weaknesses to be what is valuable to others! Carry on as and when you are able. I'll be here for you.

I definitely had a little cry over this video, I felt so happy to be a part of something so great. I'm glad to hear you're being more optimistic but don't feel the pressure to rush things. Take your time as much as you can (someone who is also poor/chronic illness "warrior") and then come back with your health as a priority. It's going to be tough but you're tougher, Claude!

I injured a nerve in my neck back in March of last year and have been struggling with very similar symptoms and frustrations as you! I'm not glad to know that someone else is experiencing what I am, but know that you are not alone!
I have also (hopefully temporarily!) lost my ability to sew because of the symptoms and pain. I 100% feel what you said; I don't so much miss the act of sewing so much as I miss making my own clothes! As a disabled/chronically ill person we get used to managing our normal symptoms, but when something new like this pops up, it can feel crushing... I know the mental side of things has been almost as hard as the physical pain. I really hope you are able to get some relief with physio!!

All the ideas you mention sound like so much fun to watch! I'll be here for whatever videos you decide to/are able to make. Your honesty and general attitude make all your videos a delight to watch (yes, even the ones where you're frustrated by having to cut out fabric!). I'm wishing you all the best, especially that you can find a way to keep sewing in one form or another.

I found your channel through the daisy blouse shorts and watched the whole stash busting compilation while doing my own yarn stash busting socks over the weekend. It was like having a chatty firend in the room which is nice on a rainy day.
I do needle lace as well, I think it could be fun for you. It is quite fiddly if you're using thin threads but you could do it with literally any size yarn as long as you have a needle for it. It is a good sitting in bed project, just make sure to take care of your hands and neck.
