Hey Frond! 🌊🐚🐠 I've gotta say I Love this. I use it to force naps upon myself lol And even study. Thank you for the cold water magic!!! Listening to your rhythmic scuba breathing is so steadying and calming as swell.
“Force naps on yourself is sooo funny” I use it to meditate! First, I wind down by staring at the swaying kelp and colors and light peeking through..then I close my eyes and zone out to the scuba bubbles and breath sound! This is a treat!
i love 30 minutes of cold water magic in a montery bay kelp forest . this is my new way to calm down when the world is crushing me under its weight. i am sad all the time except when i watch this. never could i have imagined that it would be so meditative and relaxing. peace out peace and love on planet earth
Hey, you guys have shot some beautiful pictures of this kelp forest. I wanted to ask informally if you would mind me using some of your footage in my class? I am a teacher for primary school and would like to show this to my kids and make some improvisational dance out of it (I especially like the scene with the fish between those two strands of kelp). I will always refer this footage to you and your channel and I won't use it in any public performances outside of the subject. Have a good time, and keep on with what you are doing! Greetings
Phenomenal! This is just about the best of Monterey and why I love diving here. We were off Pt Pinos likely the same day this was shot...as good as it gets. Thanks for sharing
Apologies for the late reply! Those are Thetys vagina salps in their gonozooid chain form. Salps are incredible filter-feeding, gelatinous plankton related to tunicates ("sea squirts"). The chains are sequentially hermaphroditic from female to male as they age, and the eggs they produce become solitary individuals called oozoids that lay the chains by cloning themselves. Solitary Thetys vagina salps have two long tails, hence "twin-sailed salp" as another common name.
@@underwaterpat Thanks for your answer. I intend to look into that in greater detail. I'm an artist with an architecture background so I am always intrigued by biota that do not fit the usual profile of lifeforms. // I'll add that my favorite spot on the California coast is the kelp forest tank at the Monterey Aquarium. It has a profoundly intoxicating effect -- I have been known to stand in front of it for a very long time. One day I'll take the plunge (I hope).
@@Finnie1203 lmao im the exact opposite. When i go to the sea im not scared of the deep but when i go swimming in a lake and its like 3m deep with kelp in it it looks like it's about to drag me down
I have to thank you for this 💚 It helped me calm my anxiety and feel safe 💚 Kelp forests are my favourite, thank you again 💚Edit: ohmygod is that a seal?! i'm gonna cry 💚 💚
Is this typical of the visibility in this area or and exceptional day? Where exactly is it? A boat dive or a shore dive? I'll be visiting soon and would love to dive this spot.
Watching this on mute, playing the music of the video game Aquaria just enhances the magic of Alec Holowka's soundtrack. Thank you Mr. Holowka. Rest in Peace.
MY INNER MONOLOGUE: (was it anyone else too!🫣) A sunfish! Wait. Do sunfish live in that type of area?…..where is this again? There was a seal so it’s probably cold. Man, it has such an interesting shape and I’m pretty sure it was flapping its fins like wings…but then again, maybe it’s a more common creature and I just can’t place it because it’s facing towards the camera and the depth perception is kinda skewed…Hmmmmm.. it might have helped if I put on my glasses.
Sunfish are my favorites, and between the five types-Mola mola "common", Mola tecta "hoodwinker", Mola alexandrini "bumphead", Masturus lanceloatus "sharptail" and Ranzania levis "slender" sunfishes-they are found all over the world from temperate to tropical waters. We have both Mola mola nd Mola tecta here in Monterey Bay, they come in every year as juveniles and adults to feed on jellies!
Came here after playing Subnautica. The Kelp forests on planet 4645B are considerably more terrifying, but no less beautiful.
I guess I will kelp coming back to this relaxing video
The underwater visuals at 10:00 are simply mesmerizing, love the details
Doing my scuba diving courses now. Can’t wait to get involved with experiences like this
stay safe

I love this video thank you so much
Thank you, you made me want to play Subnautica again 🥽🏊
Same.
Stunning! I am moving away from the area and am going to dearly miss these kelp forests. Thanks for sharing. Great videography.
This is just amazing. I'm a new diver, and I'm just in love with the kelp forests.

Absolutely, go for it! Thanks for the kind words!!
Amazing. My cat loved it so much that he jumped up on the fireplace to swat at the fish.
That's got a good healthy dose of Vitamin Sea.
this is so nice! better than subnautica. I wish you well, underwaterpat!!!
This is fun and relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing this experience. :) I watched before sleep, hopefully I will dream it.
looks stunning! thank you so much for not putting any music in the video!
Makes me miss being a divemaster

Im in spokane and used to live in chemaquita park santa cruz mountains this makes me miss carmel bad!
What a Рнаптаstic video, thanks
Absaloutely gorgeous, we gotta do what we can to look after these places 🍃
No better diving in the world!!!
Been long time since I scuba dived in kelp ! Scary lol
Just what I was looking for!
Thank you for sharing Great movie!
Very wonderful and amazing
What is that wondrous floating object that shows up at 24:50? It is exquisitely graceful yet very mysterious, like some alien creature.

Absolutely beautiful, makes me miss my Divemaster life 🐚
This just unlocked a deep fear of mine that I didn’t know existed 😳
I have thalassophobia (fear of the sea) but kelp forests are an exception, as long as theyre not deep id love to dive there sometime
@@Finnie1203 lmao im the exact opposite. When i go to the sea im not scared of the deep but when i go swimming in a lake and its like 3m deep with kelp in it it looks like it's about to drag me down
I can’t stand deep or shallow kelp. Kelp freaks me out, and that’ll never change.
@@baguette4607 the fear of seaweed is Fykiaphobia & I have it too 😭
same nobody seems to be talking about it
Wish we had these in New Jersey!!Wonderous 💗💗💗
@Frank Silvers It is
Great Stuff
Beautiful! This shows why diving here is so incredible.

It gets really dark below that creepvine there. Kinda like under a tree canopy but the water also absorbs the light too
Damn, that is beautiful
Absolutely stunning! Kelp is so beautiful.
eery, but beautiful
ちょうど大きな海藻の中を泳いでる動画を見たくなったところだったから助かる
Looks like another world 😍
Magical!
Scary beautiful 😍
Redwoods of the sea 🌊
I am terrified of kelp forests- two seconds in and i dunno if i can unpause the video-
I’m Terrified of seaweed in general 😭
Amazing…
stuff of nightmares!

Shore dive, "epic" visibility days we get int he fall and winter when the plankton blooms subside, Carmel, CA
Great video :)
The sea always scare me but sometimes its so calming
Stunning!
Is that sun fish at 17:00
It is yes! This is a popular cleaning spot for them
Stunning footage, excellent work!
I’m a new diver in the area and looked at your pin drop is that the kelp forest just to the north of the beach really want to dive here next month
Heya yes this was north side of Monastery Beach!
Looks like subnautica!

Oh magic conch shell, what do we do to get out of the Kelp Forest?
Wow.
What time of year was this filmed?
October and November 2020
so relaxing
How on earth do you handle this?! The seaweed is so dark, and spindly…
May I use this footage for a beamer projection on the background of an art-video for my instagram. ?
Sure thing!
what's the bottom temp around mid-summer?
Varies between lower to mid 50s!
Watching this on mute, playing the music of the video game Aquaria just enhances the magic of Alec Holowka's soundtrack. Thank you Mr. Holowka. Rest in Peace.
What are those furry rod things??
Pyrosomes! They’re a colony of filter-feeding animals that wash ashore low and again if the currents push them to the beach
Reminds me of Subnautica
A place where mermaids come to play hide and seek.🥰
🎉🎉
its scary
Looks like a forest, but it was in the sea.
Subnautica on RTX.
I can only imagine how terrifying the reaper would be irl, or the ghost leviathan.
am i the only one thinking about reaper leviathan might comes up out of nowhere
this stuff is scary tho
I don’t find this really relaxing since it feels like I am drowning.
I'll bet that SubNautica made this video popular. 😀
Yeah. Nope, nope, nope, nope
Sabnautica
Just insane. Awesomely creepy as a closet thalassophobe

酷
I like eating seaweed, but I don’t like SEEING seaweed.
In my opinion I'm scared of kelp so this is not really relaxing for me
