    Why don’t they just design bathrooms and fixtures that easier to clean? Most of the yuck is due to bad design and could be preventable.

    Re: pink bacteria in shower. If you use a long window cleaning wiper on glass/tiles after showering to remove surface water, this helps greatly, too. Also spray/mist a very mild water/bleach solution on tile/glass after using the wiper. If you mist 2 or 3 times a week you won’t see any bacteria buildup. Also keep shower curtains/doors open so air can circulate. You’re welcome! 👍🏻

    So clever to wipe it down with the peroxide and q-tip before regular cleaning! I never thought about how it would aerosolize with normal scrubbing.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +15

      If we remove it with the peroxide and q-tip first it is less likely we will smear it around with a cloth to the rest of the sink or other areas like the faucets. The key is to remove it before the regular cleaning so we don't spread the germs that can cause other infections.

      Many people spend at least two minutes in their bathroom a day. You can let the hydrogen peroxide work while you're in the shower and then wipe out the drain when you brush your teeth. It is more about getting rid of the pink slime before using the cleanser and cleaning cloth or sponge so you don't accidentally spread particles of it to other surfaces in your bathroom where it can continue to grow.

    As for my bathroom, a normal acid-based bathroom cleaner and an old toothbrush for scrubbing do the job just well enough for those orange/pinkish stains (and all the lime stains will be treated as well). I'm a great believer in hydrogen peroxide but I found that for my white shower grout that turned pink (in less than 3 months) the best solution is Simple Green Clean Finish Disinfectant Cleaner (purple handle) because the pink is not mold or mildew, but a bacteria and that's what Simple Green kills. One other thing to note is that I do not use hard soap. I use liquid soap because it does not leave soap scum. Lastly, I run my fan as I shower and leave it on for 20-30 minutes after showering. I will also occasionally towel dry (not scrub) the walls. The 'trick' is to eliminate as much moisture as you can.

    Thanks for a most interesting video on the pink slime. I have it in sink and toilet and will be using Hydrogen peroxide to clean it in the method you’ve illustrated. If I do have a related question about the pink slime. In one bathroom, on the floor around the grate of the heating grate (gas). I have something pink also. It is dry however, the floor is Linoleum. I’ve tried using scarring powder, bleach, various spray cleaners and nothing seems to remove it . And i tried Hydrogen peroxide, the pink stain is still there.
    I have a hint that I’d like to share regarding hydrogen peroxide. I take a bathroom cup and place my toothbrush inside with the bristles at the bottom of the cup add some hydrogen peroxide and let it sit there for a minute or so. This will kill the bacteria on the bristles. Good to do if your toothbrush is out in the open and the toilet lid isn’t covering the toilet when you flush.

    Question: Will the hydrogen peroxide damage the finish on the stopper.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +12

      Great question. I can depending on the type of stopper. If you are unsure you can dip your q-tips in the hydrogen peroxide and avoid the stopper all together. The key then is to do this as part of a daily ritual to keep the area clear and not spread the pink slime that builds up.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +2

      If it's a clear silicone, cleaning it with a bit of dish soap on a small OXO deep cleaning brush amzn.to/346uVWm will keep it clean. Of course, you'll rinse the caulking with water after it's been scrubbed. Spraying it after each shower with hydrogen peroxide will keep it from turning colors, growing mold or soap scum build up.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +2

      Great question. Yes very similar. The hydrogen peroxide is easier to apply in a shower when it is in a spray bottle. But if you use a spray bottle make sure it is dark like this amzn.to/3flvFsN so no sunlight gets through. The sunlight weakens the product making it ineffective. For a shower, spray the tiles (I'm assuming these are sealed ceramic tiles vs. raw stone) when you get out of the shower. The hydrogen peroxide will decompose any growing mold it comes in contact with.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Рік тому +1

      Nope. Perfectly safe. The only problem you will have is if the drain is painted. It can eat the paint off the drain. Most showers have a stainless steel or plastic drain which makes using hydrogen peroxide safe on most showers.

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      The hydrogen peroxide will be safe on the flap. It's strong enough to clean the rubber without damage. The key is to remove any shower mats nearby. If any of the hydrogen peroxide drips on the shower mat or rug - it can bleach it.

    For the pink ring around toilets, should I drop hydrogen peroxide on the toilet bowl? Do I need to get the concentration high enough for it to work (since it will get watered down with the toilet water)? Thank you for the awesome tips! Love this channel!

    • @patricedawson4649
      @patricedawson4649 2 роки тому +6

      If you dump a bucket of water into the toilet bowl, it forces most of the water out. I am 60 and only learned this trick a year ago! Makes cleaning that ring around the toilet much easier. Then flush and the bowl will refill like normal.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, it's true, dumping a bucket of water down the toilet is a great way to reduce the water level. You can also use a plunger gently to remove some of the water without causing the toilet to flush.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 роки тому +6

      You can reduce the water level and then use a hydrogen peroxide like a toilet bowl cleaner and let it sit for a couple of minutes before scrubbing it out. Use the toilet brush each day for 10 seconds inside the toilet bowl and it will prevent the pink mold from coming back.

    When using peroxide on a shower floor do you need to rinse it afterwards or let it air dry?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Рік тому +1

      When using peroxide on a shower floor, it's generally recommended to rinse it off afterwards. Peroxide is a powerful cleaning agent that can help remove stains and kill bacteria on the surface. However, leaving it on the floor without rinsing may result in a sticky residue or discoloration over time. To ensure proper cleaning and avoid any potential issues, it's best to rinse the peroxide off the shower floor with water after applying it. This will help remove any remaining peroxide and residue, leaving your shower floor clean and ready to use. Remember to follow safety guidelines and test a small area first before applying peroxide to the entire floor. Happy cleaning! 🚿🧼💦
