Good interview. Jacob seems like a good person with a good head on his shoulders. Well spoken. Interesting to hear about how he developed his arm slot. Also interesting about the differences in hitter skill level between A+ and AA. Fascinating discussion between the two of you about how Jacob approaches tunneling (start vs, land) and how he wants pitches to play off the FB. Such a good perspective on how he perceives and uses tools like the trackman data. You can tell he has conviction in what works for him and then at the same time he acknowledges that he loves to have the info, benefits from it, and that other guys use it differently than he does. Love to hear this and it's another, maybe more nuanced version of, the Dodgers make all the information available to guys but don't cram it down their throats.

      100%
These people are so smart and confident that they want to help, so will always give their opinion, one in which they have a tremendous amount of conviction behind, but they are also so confident, they don't take anything personal if you don't use it. My best friend Eddy, who played with the Cardinals forever was exactly that way when we coached together. He would tell us what we thought, but then would not care if which way we went.

@@dodgersdaily That's interesting. When people have true mastery over something they come to understand that there are many ways to skin a cat so even though they have concrete ideas, opinions, and deep knowledge they become less dogmatic and less emphatic in their ideas. They have tremendous confidence that their methods and ideas work and produce results but recognize that others do too.
The Yankees minor league hitting philosophy under Dillon Lawson resulted in an extreme focus on exit velocity to the near exclusion of everything else. It was described at length by Ben Ruta who was in the Yankees system. There are some examples, in practice, of how the analytics pendulum can swing too far. The Dodgers seem far from making these kinds of mistakes.
