    This is the BEST place down in San Diego to visit. It is not about the ship alone. It shows us how our navy sailors lived through war and peace. The USS Midway is like a magnet to people you are drawn to it. And it can really get crowded😂

      The Midway is a marvel. We didn't expect to experience a city onboard. The best part for us was getting to hear the stories of those that lived aboard and reading some of the letters that were pinned to the board next to the Post Office. We were able to take some pictures from the recipe books they had that we want to try out, too.

    Sehr gutes Video, ich war selbst 2008 auf der USS Midway, als ich mehrere Wochen in San Diego beruflich zu tun hatte. Es hat sich kaum was verändert 👍👍👍👍

    I have visited the Midway several times and will probably visit it several more times. Always a pleasurable experience with knowledgeable folks on board to answer your questions.

      Our son has already asked us to plan another trip out there. We live on the East Coast so it will be a while before that happens. The Midway volunteers were wonderful! We spent over an hour in the CIC with his asking a couple dozen questions and they answered every single one for him with patience and enthusiasm.

      @Royal Shenanigans if you haven't been, you might want to try visiting the USS Alabama at Memorial Park. The park is a combination Air Museum, along with the Alabama and the "Drum", a WWII Diesel electric submarine.

    Nice job with the camera work and the quality is excellent. I know it takes a lot of patience to capture an entire tour like that. In full screen mode, I felt like I was there. Actually, I was there the summer of '21 and can't wait to return. The volunteers do a great job.

    When I get a chance, I want to get back onboard the Midway. She was my first duty station. I was assigned to E-Division and my regular shop was Electrical Tool issue as well as Aft Galley Gear shop. My regular watch station was Switchboard 3 and Electrical Trouble Call. I remember how to get around to most of the places that you cannot get on this tour. :)

    Why is radar activated?

    • @royalshenanigansusa
      @royalshenanigansusa  Рік тому +1

      One of the volunteers in the CIC explained radar was activated to provide an authentic experience and help visitors see how air and surface detections were made in tandem (he was explaining this to our 12 year old so may have simplified a bit). He also pointed out that Naval Base Coronado was located across the bay with several aircraft carriers and squadrons home porting from there and pointed out proximity to the Mexican border on one of the stations my son sat at.

    Nice to see the midway as a museum that so many thousand that served and worked on for years that can visit. Originally she didn’t have a angle deck and was not classified as a super carrier it would be nice to have one as a museum to which there is only one available. Nuclear powered carriers will never be available and all other have been scrapped and the America was scuttled years ago in a classified location way to deep to dive on. Only one has the ability to become a museum that is waiting to be towed to Brownsville tx to come under the butchers torch and become car parts and razor blades someday. The money our government wastes billions of dollars a year for some of the dumbest things and could save the one last chance to save this mighty ship for a museum. This countries only chance to have a true super carrier so folks could visit and see what thousands lived, served on and called home. Save the CV67 Kennedy before it’s to late.

      She was the biggest ship on the planet for her first 10 years. How is that not a super carrier?

    • @jaybee9269
      @jaybee9269 Рік тому

      @@TPaine1776>> She’s the closest thing to a supercarrier museum. She’s not nearly as big as CV-67 though. Sad there’ll be no true supercarrier museum.

      I have serve aboard three aircraft carriers in my twenty years career in the Navy. I served aboard the USS Midway CV-41, USS RANGER CVA-61, and the USS KittyHawk CVA-63, and the Midway was the most liked aircraft carrier that most sailors has loved serving aboard, and she was also highly loved & respected by a lot of international countries that she'd visited. I was a Boiler Tech aboard all three carriers; on the Midway you will learn engineering the hard but the right way with her 12 Babcock & Wilcox 600 psi boilers. The Midway was commissioned back in September 10, 1945 eight days after Japan signing the surrender of WW2 aboard the USS Missouri in Yokosuka Japan. And she might not have been classified as a Super Carrier, but she was a Super Magical Aircraft Carrier that had a thicker hull size than most of the newer class carriers..And it will take you approximately two weeks of touring, just to see the whole entire ship of the USS Midway..But please take a visit to her when you are in the San Diego area, and you won't be disappointed.

      @@ehbrownj>> Thank you for your service! I’ve been to the USS Midway museum and it’s amazing! They do a beautiful job. The Midway class was actually built with an armored flight deck (a la the Royal Navy), right?
