From Pitchfork's 2022 oral history of Terror Twilight: Bob Nastanovich: "Probably the biggest low point in Pavement history." Scott Kannberg: "If you want a good laugh, look that show up on the internet."
Saw Stephen Malkmus live recently and people thought it was awful, it might’ve been. But I couldn’t have been happier. I’m so glad he hasn’t changed. He’s very hit or miss live, but he’s still the best. Always will be the indie king
Now what about the voice of Stephen Malkmus, how did it get so coarse? I wonder if the tour made him sound so hoarse? Well, I know him, and it did! And your my fact-checkin’ kid…
Quite hard to watch, Malkmus was obviously struggling. I like how Bob is trying his best to stay positive though "It was good with the Lemmy vocal, that worked!"
I know what the original sounds like and while this version is obviously a disaster I quite enjoy it and Bob kept it going in a way that really shows the bands sense of humor even if Stephen wasn't feeling it at all
the antithesis of passion, yes. the antithesis of talent, no. the band were having issues with each other during this time and shortly broke up after. he obviously doesnt give a fuck at this point.
@Zatzzo Well it's not that they sucked live, it's just that you never knew (as a fan), what was going to come seeing them live. Some of their shows were flawless, and then some of their shows had weird quirks. This Coachella set was bad because of Malkmus' sickness. They truly moved people live, and it still shows 11 years after their breakup during their reunion tour. I saw them at Osheaga, and they truly stole the fest with flawless delivery, sincerity, and excitement. Best of the 90s.
I saw them twice. The first show was a letdown; it was around 93. I saw them around 98 for the next show and it was god awful. Malkmus obviously didn't care.
this is hilarious, it cracks me up , its well deliberate , malkmus is just completely taking the piss, he's plainly just trying make a statement to the members in the band by singing in the worst voice he can possibly muster. funny way to do it ! classic!
BOB NASTANOVICH: Obviously, I can’t sing-I can only really scream, and the only reason I ever had a vocal mic onstage was to save Malkmus’ vocals on the road, and to make sure his voice wasn’t shredded… as it was at that first Coachella ever, which was probably the biggest low point in Pavement history [laughs].
Gotta love Bob looking like he just walked in from accounts receivable.
i cracked the fuck up at the "high-ho silver, ride". Malkmus was having a breakdown live. feel bad for the rest of the band though.
They elevate hating what you do to an art.
Pavement unpaved
someone give my man a cup of water for t he love of god

laughing manically at this...that solo after the first chorus was absolute art :L Such a good performance!
Now what about the voice of Stephen Malkmus, how did it get so coarse? I wonder if the tour made him sound so hoarse?

And your my fact-checkin’ kid…
the greatest pavement show of all time
Quite hard to watch, Malkmus was obviously struggling. I like how Bob is trying his best to stay positive though "It was good with the Lemmy vocal, that worked!"
It's kind of a fitting ending tho
Steve Malkmus might just be the greatest indie rock troll...like ever.
This isn't a troll this is real life
he sounds like a literal troll here
Love this Death metal Rendition. Long live these guys!
underrated preformance!! i love how upbeat it sounds BUT GIVE MALKMUS A LOZENGE.
If you didn't know what the original sounded like, you'd think this was fine
I know what the original sounds like and while this version is obviously a disaster I quite enjoy it and Bob kept it going in a way that really shows the bands sense of humor even if Stephen wasn't feeling it at all
can't believe they got tom waits to do vocals for pavement
"Haaaaaah hooooo silvahhh riiiiidddee-uhh!" 0:47
Most underrated performance ever
I love the way they shred this song tbh, probably the best version of it they did.
Love gettin' a little out there with my work buds after quittin' time
Just fell in love again. But he has competition in the was of a soulmate/partner of 26 yearsThanks for the video..
Just read that this was more Stephen having lost his voice vs sabotage, fwiw.
the antithesis of passion, yes. the antithesis of talent, no. the band were having issues with each other during this time and shortly broke up after. he obviously doesnt give a fuck at this point.
It’s a really F- wicked show
Malkmus sounds like Batman in this
Now I'm at their 2010 Coachella performance!!!!
How’d it go?
@@kiyamonae3610much better but not many people showed up even though they got high billing.
This is fucking awesome. Not even saying this to be ironic, it's hilarious.
jesus, Malkmus looks like Charlie Sheen after a bender
wow
Apparently Bob only ever did vocals to save Steve's voice ,heh

he was legit sick for this performance

@Zatzzo did you catch them on their reunion tour. It was great!

WHERE ARE THEY??
At least I know which video Beggars won’t remove :p
the level of slack here is off the charts
steves voice sounds manly as fuck

yiyiyiyiyiyiy
sounded like he lost his voice lol love pavement!
lol @ people who prefer Radiohead to this
A bit harsh ya think?
drugs
@silverbeatle130
You mean someone like you? No one talks shit about steve malkmus!
His voice sounds trashed, here. Couldn't have been too fun
oh my god i love their records, i think they were the greatest band of the 90s without questions, but they just plain SUCKED live! gotta admit it.
his not singing like he normaly does u.u
This is the kind of sloppy careless shit that kept Pavement from being Nirvana. There is a great song hidden in there somewhere.
yeah and it's on the record
Yeah but it’s also what made Pavement uniquely Pavement. There will never be another
They didn't need to be another Nirvana because Nirvana already done that.
crappy version.
Not impressed
this isn't exactly the definitive version of this song
@@paulsmartialarts lol....no shit...its awful. I dont care how much I love Pavement, if I saw them do it like this I would be pissed.
@@PappyHab yea it is pretty awful but wasnt he sick?? i hardly think thats any of their fault.
@@kidssinkingtongz Its not that anyone is sick. Its just Pavement being Pavement. I just hate the vocals that SM went for this version. Thats all.
