I am so sick of people thinking burnout is just "being weak". Why go through life suffering and miserable, for what? Bragging rights to say how "tough" you are?
i don't know that my job is stress full but it is monochromatic and dull and the building is dismal and low lighting and that may be what i feel about now.
The problem is there are quite a few employers out there that don't care. They will work you until you break and just get someone else. Yes you can just quit but that is sometimes easier said than done.
Think it is quite sad to actually give all your time into the crafts and in return, the employers simply doesn't care for your being with all those horrible deadlines to meet. I am feeling so burnt out right now that disliking my job feels an understatement. Like you said, they simply just work until you break and replace you.. The only solution to this is not just a simple 3 day break but a job change .. :(
The worst part about wanting to quit after breaking your neck for a job is that you rarely if ever have enough energy to go through the job application process
Exactly. And many make it well known that your job is temporary, based on "performance reviews" completed by managers whose sole skillset is the old carrot and stick. I haven't had a raise that outpaced inflation in 3 years, but I've never been written up, had any corrective action, or criticized once. I have no idea what criteria would put me in a higher performance bracket because our metrics are measured based on reviews of just a handful of interactions out of tens of thousands we perform each year. It's like rating a quarterback on 4 random passes per game. And of course your job security is attached directly to that rating done by a middle manager with the skills and education of a second rate player.
@@tayphiri519 I'd rather start my own business or day trade for a living. All these companies are the same. Most of them are headed by CEO's that are literally psychopaths who enjoy inflicting pain on their employees. Unfortunately that is a fact. I'm done dealing with it!
I'm a highschool student and I feel like adults don't always recognize student burnout. We are only allowed a few unexcused absences throughout the year. People will always talk about work place burnout, and although that's important too, it's also important to pay attention to the kids who are also having a hard time.
so true they told to take a break like i have finals in 5 days and im completely burnt out i have no other option rather to study forcefully because finals won't ever come again
I think it's more of a treatment rather than the cure for burnout that's been around for a while. They also said that if going on vacations and breaks don't work at all, to consider looking for a new job. But quitting isn't always possible. These little breaks, even if they're not the miracle cure, are also what most people can do to help themselves.
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ OMG I JUST SAID THIS … I worked as a Correctional Officer and trust me my burnout did not come from the inmates IT CAME FROM MANAGEMENT!!! the Overworking .. Unappreciated… Nobody Sticking to Policy … Micromanaging… etc … I literally walk out after 6 years …
Burnout is a racing game series developed by Criterion and published by Acclaim for the first two games and then Electronic Arts for subsequent releases.
Here in Sweden we have special clinics for burnout, and the criteria is different than these three you describe here. It has to do with changes in the brain (this has been proven) where you experience memory loss, you can't concentrate at all, information just doesn't stick, you can forget where you live or where you are going sitting in the car driving the same road you do every day etc. It's scary stuff. The body simply "stops functioning" and you can't get out of bed or you pass out due to exhaustion. It's so much more serious than "you don't feel like going to work". Recovery, if you have a serious burnout, can take years. It doesn't need to include depression, but some people have that at the same time. This is a serious syndrome, if you really have burnout syndrome it wont matter how much you WANT to get back to work and life, it wont help with positive thinking or just a little rest. It's a serious, serious syndrome that needs to be taken very seriously. But it's positive that this gets more recognition in other countries as well. Many get diagnosed with depression, but that is a different thing.
I have this. I work 7 days a week with 3-4 days being 12hrs or so.ghere are no off days, never get any time away from work. I live at work literally... We work so much it's our home. Sometimes we don't go home for years at a time. It's been 8 years straight of 7 days a week 8-12 hour days.. I'm so tired. I wanna quit but then I'll be homeless....
Hats off 🎩to you Jenny! I can understand the seriousness and damages that incurred by this mental health condition...You Elaborated it in a very in-depth and precise way. May our Creator blessed you for this sincere effort. Stay smiling forever 👍
So for those who have it... what do you? i just recently found the term and i think i've been this "worse, downgraded version of myself" for over 10 years. how do u get rid of it? my focus is gone, attention span is short, hard to learn and retain new information. im in my late 20s so age is definitly not a factor
Woww Jenny, thanks so much for your very well written and explained comment!! 👍👌 Its helpfull, I need to get out of this burnout (i am having for years now) as soon as possible!....
@Tom Jones men can be nurses too. Nursing is a very hard profession that requires a lot of hard schooling, dealing with people, and so much hard work. Who wouldnt get burnt out doing that constantly? Its not just women. Any job in the medical profession, and no matter the gender u are, will make u burnt out at some point. Its hard work.
Lol !but most of them nurses after like 15 -20 years of doing that time make like $42 hr ! Y’all can retire by the time you hit mid 30s maybe 40 ish if you play your cards rite.
Burnout doesn't happen just from a stressful work environment. Many people suffer burnout from caregiving or other situations. Many people experiencing burnout are overwhelmed in general in their lives. This pandemic worsened it because of the isolation and increased stress. That exhaustion that isn't relieved by sleep, feeling unmotivated and overwhelmed, depressed, disorganized. They are all part of burnout. And it can also make you physically I'll if it's bad enough. Everyone has a breaking point. We aren't machines and need time to rest our minds as well as our bodies to be healthy and happy. We need to talk to trained professionals who can give us good tools and coping strategies. Burnout doesn't just go away.
We need an overhaul on Government! They have created this mess. I can tell you that stress jobs, and making barely enough to survive is causing alot of burnout
Older generations didn't really burnout because the jobs they worked provided them a life. That was the whole point of this economy. Companies need workers, and we need a place to live and food to eat. When did it all go wrong?
Being in constant with it. My performance with school started ok then started declining. I used to finish everything on time then the easiest 1+1=n is getting harder to answer. Constant activities + topics that are not explained properly + lack of teachers teaching + competition = burnout Hard to explain but the system of education really failed me, you are supposed to learn not compete with time. We all know that time is constantly ticking and our body doesnt constantly, it needs break.
Older generations did have burnout. It just wasn't paid attention to just like many other problems. People just were miserable and kept it to themselves or they had "nervous breakdowns". People suffered in silence.
@@farisasmith7109 You're 1000% wrong burnout wasn't a thing until modern times cause before you didn't need a job for years and years you could have a home after a few years a car a farm etc life was simpler the inflation and social pressure is making us depressed cause we have to follow a systematic job>car>home and it takes your entire life to pay these things off there is no rest its a constant our society is skewed.
@@roseashleydeocampo8925 I remember the homework being physically impossible to finish. Just piled on day by day. I would try and not have time left to sleep. Then, I stopped caring. I was already struggling because my mom had left, and I was uncomfortable with anyone even knowing because very few of my teachers were open or communicative, in fact in high school they largely seemed judgemental. I went from honor roll to remedial classes, summer school, and graduating after an extra semester.
I burned out years ago. I mean, I’m fine doing things at work, but at home I just can’t do hobbies, can’t watch movies, can’t finish books. I just in reactionary mode doing things that require immediate attention. Played some Minecraft. Watched some TikTok and UA-cam. How do I pick up my life?
I hope you're doing okay, it sounds challenging like it's hard to relax at home. If you're happy and finding work okay and not able to relax at home then i wonder if it's home life/environment/conflict/commitments that's making you feel stressed and therefore impacting your ability to switch off and enjoy finishing things you enjoy whilst at home? Or if it's work that you're tolerating and maybe it's not really okay at work however it's taking all your energy trying to cope and pretend you're okay to get through the day that by the time you get home you too emotionally exhausted to complete anything you enjoy? Identifying your stressor and removing it from your life or restricting time on it and reinvesting that time into you and something you enjoy, starting small and seeing what you can change, what you can finish that you enjoy.
As a person in the health community, I got seriously burned out when the pandemic started. The overwhelming work load with high expectations from your boss, patients, and colleagues left me frazzled even after the pandemic was over. Even though I’m better, I’m still not 100%. I have good days and I have bad days. What honestly helped me was doing small projects around the house. Each small completion was a victory. It may take you a long time and the completed project may look like crap. But it was my crap. Haha It’s these small “victories” that accumulate and make you feel better about yourself. Get involved with a community like a club, church, knitting group, or exercise class. For myself, I started mountain biking. Expending energy to talk with people is high but worth it after time. You’ll see it after a few months. The worst thing you can do is getting into any social media. Social media is designed to make you feel bad for yourself. Quick gratification doesn’t equate long term fixes. Healing is long term, it’s never an over night thing. Good luck!
i ACTUALLY BURNOUT while working in a company and doing my masters studies starting from the panic attacks, psychosis, and enentually end up living with my parents at home. Now, I just having panic and fear just from the thought of working or getting a job.
@@okaminess . Not really but now I am in a state to at least survive on my own. About to start treatment with psychedelics and hoping to recover from it.
Establish financial independence so one can take breaks and tell bosses to pound sand when needed. We’re not slaves but sadly people put up with a lot because of the paycheck to paycheck living.
Another thing I think to be concern about is family issues, divorce, raising a child, your life, present and future. When you have a stressful job and a stressful personal life and all that blends on your mind,it can easily gets you on a burnout state.
Well... A time will come when you'll snap. It took me 13 years. But I snapped. I can't look at another job description on LinkedIn. I hate LinkedIn more than Facebook
The difference is you choose to be a parent. You have a hopefully rewarding relationship with your child. It’s not a one sided energy and mental health drain. No one chooses to be ill or incredibly chronically stressed. Not saying you can’t be stressed and exhausted being a parent but it’s definitely and different situation. People have to work to live and pay their bills and buy food. No one has to be a parent.
@@piperjaycie Actually, it is the same thing. Literally. Burn out occurs when putting other people's or a company's needs first all of the time. There is constant chronic stress when taking care of children because children are children. It's a huge responsibility. Even a vacation with children is technically not a vacation because you're constantly on alert to make sure the childen don't injur themselves, get lost, or worse. On top of that, single parents hold a job/s at the same time. And if they don't have a supportive job environment then trying to overcome burnout is even more difficult.
Yep, I am counting down my 6 days till I am gone. I have worked in a doctor's office for many years and we are all way overworked, underpaid and not enough people to help. Patients suffer as well as employees and no one really seems to care so bye bye.
I kept saying to my co-workers I was burnt out. It led to Bells Palsy, stress as the trigger from a latent viral infection. Thank goodness I got full mobility after 2 months. It was extremely painful and I had no idea how incredibly stressed out I was.
I feel an allergic to my job. I find myself breaking out in rashes on my face, feeling itchy only at work and my eyelid randomly gets swollen after stressful incidents. Is it all in my head?? I'm not sure but if it's only happening during broad daylight at work and it calms in the evenings and on weekends, I have a strong feeling it's work related. I'm hoping to leave my job soon.
Like others have stated in the comment section, burnout intervention takes effort from both the employee and upper management. The problem is upper management has no concern for the well being of the worker and only cares about the company..🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️.
Burnout is not even just related to jobs though. This is so awesome that you guys are recognizing this. But I think that the term should be expanded to an actual thing in your overall life. Especially when it comes to mental health. I’ve suffered from these symptoms for the majority of my life. Thank you, THANK YOU SO MUCH for acknowledging these things. You have no idea how much it means to hear people finally realizing how important mental health is. But yeah, my only criticism would be that it is not just based on work exhaustion… But someone’s overall life, in general. Life has just become so… negative. Tough. Exhausting. Cynical. Hopeless. Insignificant… It’s no wonder why so many people are feeling so emotionally scarred.
Absolutely. I haven't worked in a long time (now I know the effects of exhaustion j don't care ) but when I work too hard j suffer burn out regularly and can't do..anything. You can't think. your brain is a mangled mess, forget remembering anythung or socialising you barely know where you are or what's going on and have to keep yourself warm and fed but yeah I'm going through pretty severe bouts of this simply from the strss of travelling to a place with missing buses, getting lost , travel expenses and losing valuable me time to do IMPORTANT things. It's NOT just about jobs not even remotely. We need to take care of an x be gentle with ourselves
yes, just giving so much of yourself where you do not have any energy for yourself. Yet you were able to help others. Not only related to work only- but life. you wake up and realize you can not move forward.
Hi Rich, you may want to check our video on “Burnout” at ua-cam.com/video/BWrPcBOVz1Q/v-deo.htmlat In this video, we share our personal experiences of burnout. What burnout really is, who could be at risk, and the consequences? Most importantly we share 4 practical steps to overcome it.
As a software engineer, I agree with this. I am burning out because of unrealistic deadlines that they are giving to us especially when this pandemic started. I just want to quit but still don’t have any courage. Working from home feels like miserable, working overtime without overtime pay and so much demand that I can’t keep up with it anymore.
Yes I am burnt out since covid hit wfh some weeks doesn’t even help me. I’m so stressed out from this job I’m making mistakes. Looking at a job description on websites makes me sick

Ive been without work for 2 years This thing doesnt pass Not for me Whenever i think about jobs i think about suffering and then i think i never want that again
I definitely have this and I'm looking to work for myself every job js the same so you'll burnout where ever you go folks gotta start becoming they're own boss
"Management can give you time off, where they don't contact you" Yeah, right, I've been tied to a pager ( remember them?) and now a cell phone 24/7/365 for my entire career. Doc, remember residency and how it was when you were a resident? That's my life every day.
The people who say burnout isn't real haven't seen what real stress feels like what it feels to work constantly for 18 hours straight over coffee without sleep just because you had a deadline, Now imagine doing that for months, at some point you'll break and that's burnout.
The next step is for our society to make it acceptable at the workplace to take a sick day for mental health reasons without the employee being looked or talked upon as weak or too sensitive. I know some places do offer “mental health days” but it still feels inappropriate/risky to make use of them without being frowned upon. 😔
I just took 3 days for mental health ( burnout by work) I don’t care what ppl think, I’m my priority & I need to look after myself in order to be the best at work.
I would recommend talking to a therapist as well if having the above symptoms. Often times, people in this state will not admit to themselves they are struggling due to external and internal pressures, but will argue they need to be tough and a decision to do something about it, is taken late when they are forced to do it because of impaired health and possible severe long term consequences. I know a thing or two from my own experience.
The pandemic has made it worse by adding stress, and taking away the little daily escapes the helped. Where I am, I can get out for a brief walk, but it used to be that going for lunch at the nearby food court at least got me out of the workplace for a little while. Now because of a near lockdown in my city, I can get takeout, but have to back to the office. Just one example.
I'm a high school senior right now and I'm taking some really hard classes at the moment. I'm also prepping for my ACT retake in December and I am working on applying for colleges. I absolutely haven't been sleeping enough and I've been feeling more anxious with all of this extra schoolwork my teachers deem necessary for their class. It's 2:46AM right now and I have been working all weekend with no end in sight. My planner is scary full. I also had to slash my hours at work in half because I don't have time for everything. My senior year has been ruined, society sucks, online school sucks, anxiety sucks and I just want to go live on a different planet with nobody else around me.
Relatable! I started first quarter being so excited for online school as regular school has never been my thing. It’s now mid second quarter and I’m so unmotivated and anxious! I honestly don’t even have much on my plate at the moment but I’m constantly worrying about college applications and my lack of extracurriculars. Everyday feels the EXACT same and I can’t even escape at the weekends because everything is here again due to COVID:(
The biggest failure in American education is expecting students to work. Period. If you want education to be better, start by realizing it's not just a process to get through, that if you want to train the brain, the training needs to be the sole focus. Like training for a Mr. Universe title. You don't achieve that level of conditioning by flipping burgers 8 hours a day on top of your routine workout. Your workout becomes the only thing. Ditto education. If you want it to work, focus on it to the exclusion of all else.
I’m in the same position currently, I’m a junior prepping for the SATS, and I’m taking a prep class specifically for it and it’s online and I just can’t do it, I feel so bad bc I feel like now of the info is sticking, I’m also in my schools debate team and 3 other extra curricular and a whole lot of missing work due to my depression , it’s a lot but I hope you’re doing much better right now, God bless.
My personal strategy is live far below what I can afford this way I can quit and get a different job, taking a pay cut if I have to. I refuse to sacrifice my mental & physical health for a bigger pay check.
New normal - hand you a device eg laptop - a code for : you’re expected to work 50-60 hrs or be “on call “. Technology helps and hurts us . Many people looking for a balance
You're right about that. My cure for that is trying to stick to my work hours and not going over it then shutting down and unplugging the laptop from the docking station.
@Tom Jones When you have to work you have to work. Has nothing to do with competition in a "mans" world burn out weighs heavy on anyone whose working hard nowadays regardless of the type of work.
@Tom Jones What would possibily compell you to put a gendered slant to the conversation? But if you want to go that route, consider that "mans' work" is typically associated with physical labour, at least in gendered conversations, and burnout is associated with emotional or mental labour. I might get physically tired after a hot day laying down a roof, but usually I can come home and eat and rest and feel better the next day. But when I've had a long day working with youth at risk, for instance, its much harder to just eat, rest, and recouperate - mental energy doesn't regenerate in the same way. And when you continuously are taxed mentally, you can only live well for a limited time while running a deficit.. eventually you dissociate, turn off, and shut down unwillingly - that is burnout. The same thing would happen if you just never stopped to rest from physical work. Often I have yearned for physical work when I have felt burntout from emotional labour. This is a super simplified explanation, and mind that burnout is just as probable for men as it is for women, but more probable regardless in jobs which demand: constantly being present or on, ready to engage in conversation, conflict, or decision making; dealing with people; constant connection both on and off the clock; service positions such as teachers, drs/nurses/care aids, etc.
Been on my own since 19. Im 33 now. Worked sooo many jobs, feels like i've spent 90%of my life trying to find myself or my purpose..now im mentally exhasusted. Depressed...anxious...etc. my mind wanders at 1000 thoughts per second. I recently just kinda gave up and i really dont have any feelings about it. I have asked certain people for help but most dont see it..they just say "oh you can do it" you've been doing good for soooo long just keep going" they dont understand what lies beneath all of this..I NEED A BREAK! I will probably lose my car and my apartment soon bc i hqve zero energy or motivation or desire to fight...i just need a break!
I am in final year of medical and completely burnt out . I have finals in few weeks and I can’t bring myself to study and keep procrastinating. Its horrible. Years and years I have stretched myself thin for this and when I am finally at the threshold I cannot move along because of burn out. Im so scared that all my hard-work of these years is going to vain because of the very bad months I have had. I just don’t know what to do. No. I know what to do l just cant do it.
The workplace is not the only place that can give you burnout. I’m a single parent who works from home but most of my life for the past 2 years has been caregiver, housekeeper, breadwinner and parent and I find myself feeling all the symptoms of burnout but I can’t get a break or time away to “manage it”. Not really sure what to do anymore. I’m just so tired.
I second the comments that say it's not just from work only. Things in life overall can contribute. I feel like non work related stuff can be worse sometimes. Either way you're drained and basic tasks feel like overwhelming torture. I'm getting there.
Wow I just realised that I am in denial that it’s not a burn out. If I admit it I don’t know how to get back from it so it’s easy to say I am just tired.
I'm Absolutely 💯 burned out. I'm 48 years old I've been working at the same place for 17 years now. The more I try to be more positive at work the worse my attitude becomes. I feel like saying F everything ! ! I also I think I mean it's September 12TH and it was 105 degrees today Summer where I live last for 6 months out of the year , I feel that doesn't help with things. I know someone who is working 7/7 very often 7:00 to 10:30pm .he has not life , completely burnout 😢😢 he works for 4 peoples. Now he is exausted 🙈🙈🙈 it is not weakness , some people put the priority on someone else ..whatever the price to help, to find solutions for the other to look strong despite the fatigue 😢. PRIORITY number 1 it' s yourself 🙏🙏🙏
I didn't know this was a real thing. Cuz real talk, about a month ago I straight ghosted a job where I made $40+/hr for all these reasons they say are symptoms of burnout. And since I've quit, I actually am beginning to loathe the idea of taking another job in this same field because I feel like it'll be the same thing all over again
Bro same. I still havent quit but i feel like i need a 3+ month break. They just told me that i meed to work sundays too… Seriously considering idc about the money no more

This segment was filled with pat and simple answers that aren't easy to execute. "Try and take time off work if you can"--that's like telling a fat person to go on a diet. A fat person knows that in order to lose weight they should diet. A person suffering from burnout knows that taking time off from work would help. THEY CAN'T TAKE TIME OFF WORK. That's why they're burned out! "Look for another job if you can"--And if you can't, then what? And if the problem is you're in healthcare in the middle of a pandemic and this is your CAREER, not a JOB that you can't just walk away from because the next place is just as overworked, then what? "Management can give you time off where they don't contact you". Keep dreaming brother. Yeah, let me go tell my boss to stop calling and emailing me. That will work. "3 days...That's the kind of break that you need". Um....no. You need WAY more than 3 days, Buddy, but since you're not seeing patients and in the thick of it, just sitting behind a desk with a nice suit on, you would think that. "If you could take little walk at work, that would help". Baby, I can't even get time for LUNCH on my job. My work day theoretically ends at 5. I typically go home between 6:30 or 7:30pm--depending on when I'm kicked out of the building by the person locking up b/c I'm still working--finishing paperwork and charting. My "lunch break" is often 6:31 or 7:31--when I get home. So, tell me when I would find to go on this "little walk" of yours?
These are typical things someone who has experienced mental illness will say or suggest. But it’s not like those with mental illness or stress aren’t aware of these things or don’t know what to do. Some people don’t get it’s not that simple at all. They might have some free time or energy to do these “helpful” things but most people are just trying to get through the day.
This segment is unrealistic because if people could take time off from work and find another job, which is usually not the solution, they would not be burned out.
Moving up in Walmart isn’t worth it. It just increases your chances of getting fired for other peoples short comings. I’m happier as a stocker and making more than most people in my store.
I just wish they would at least give us a break when needed 🤦🏾♂️ and I’m not talking about 15 mins, not 1 a hr lunch , not a 2 or 3 days weekend, In other countrys laws protect citizens when they need a mental break from work
I have had burn out for a year now at my job. My Boss gets off work practically every week yet I have been working there for 4 years and have gotten 3 days off in a row Max. I work from home and the micro management is insane. I want to do things but I’m so mentally exhausted by the weekend that all I want to do is sleep. It’s so sad. I have been looking for a job but it’s all less than what I make at my current company so I have no choice right now and have to stay.
I really need help. I am a stay at home mom of 4, ages 15,8,3,1. I started feeling disconnected from house work, cooking, going out shopping, going for walks, like about 3 months now. I don't know where the interest went. I want my energy back, my interests back. I don't want to be like this. I don't have anyone to babysit, ai am at home 24/7 7 days a week. Unless if it's to drop of my older ones to school, or to get groceries, gas. My babies are the only reason I get out of bed in the mornings, they're the reason I do what I can. I love them, and I just want to be an energetic mom for them. I used to be this energetic person, that loved hiking. Now all that is gone. My memory is also the worst. I don't know if vitamins can help.
They’re listing out symptoms of “occupational burnout”. Keyword: “occupational”, which is work related. Also, people are 33% more likely to be hurt or killed on the job than elsewhere.
Workplace Stress? I'm sure that's Legit. But what if you are almost 50 years old, you had a good job over the years. However, you experienced significant trauma from childhood through to your 30's? Could that Cause Burnout? I know someone like that. they used to have so much energy then slowly they got more and more tired and during that time seemed to lose all passion for everything. However (before you call depression) those person swears Black n Blue they are not even close to suicidal and has a great sense of humor, still has emotions and great empathy and sympathy for other people and animals too. But this person is so tired they can not even maintain proper hygiene or healthcare. they struggle to bring themselves to make phone calls. for them, everything is a major chore and a cause of great discomfort. It's not as simple as them having given up on life, they have not. they yearn for life, but they are soooo freaking tired. This person is constantly seeking out sources of motivation but failing to find any. If you show this person I video of a disabled person who has overcome all kinds of odds and thrived in life, my friend wells up with tears but fails to make any change. My friend is broken. Any Ideas? I feel so sorry for my friend, but I don't know how to help. Any and all meaningful ideas or advice appreciated :) Thank you!
I feel for you. I have to work too. I just left my job where the toxic environment, constant pressures and heavy workload led to burnout. I was off for 7 weeks but it didn't help with recovery. I start my new job tomorrow and I feel so anxious. I know I will be needing those bathroom trips just to breathe. Wishing you recovery and wellness.
know what you like, do what you love, try different things here and there. anything making you feel down change it or replace it. if you get the idea rest is up to you. remember you and your baby is number one priority for you.
Is very easy to really understand... when you have heavy health problems... and your ego and needs don.t leave you give up. I thing i brought burn out to extremE. I NEED HELP.. I SEE NO HELPING HAND
I can imagine burnout is touchy topic in USA where they obsess about being productive, hustle culture and they thing being workaholic is a good thing and all that crap. Burnout is a serious condition in which your body starts to fight your mind, simply trying to tell you: “dude, you have taken me on this road of constantly filling your head with work related stuff. Life is so much more than career and you are missing out”
I cannot call this serious. Serious is more along the lines of exhaustion. Like becoming physically ill, feeling like you're going to pass out, and have little strength and serious fatigue. Like someone who works constantly with not enough down time or rest. Like single mothers. Mild burnout is common. But exhaustion is another thing entirely.
A weekend away!?! Do you know what actual burnout is like? I’m so burnt out I can’t even taste food or listen to music. I’ve started having emotional reactions to sound, where someone chewing makes start crying, it’s extreme constant fight or flight mode that burns out your system. Need way more than a weekend away.

The thing is i dont mind some stress, but at the workplace you are not allowed to fight for yourself. If you start ANYTHING there you get FIRED I can fight, but jobs are absolute madness You are stuck between a rock and a hard place there and THATS what causes the burnout
At the point of "Burnout" a 3 day holiday is not the solution. Burnout does not just affect you at work, when you are burned out it is also affecting you at home. Your 3 day holiday is just 3 more days of worry and stress. And how many can really afford a Holiday anymore?
"Burn-out is included in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an occupational phenomenon. It is not classified as a medical condition." - from WHO. It is not a medical condition. However, it is one of the contributing factors of poor health and people reaching out for help.
I am so sick of people thinking burnout is just "being weak". Why go through life suffering and miserable, for what? Bragging rights to say how "tough" you are?

Sloppy Jonuts I hope you find a happier way to spend your precious minutes of your life at work 😇
i don't know that my job is stress full but it is monochromatic and dull and the building is dismal and low lighting and that may be what i feel about now.
If I had an M.I. right now and keeled over, my job would be posted before my head hit the floor.

Burnout is a sympton of incompetent managment being unable or unwilling to organise their workplace realistically, not a symptom of employee problems.
Well said! Burnout is also a lack of concrete acknowledgement of your value and your work by management not just empty words!

Burnout is a racing game series developed by Criterion and published by Acclaim for the first two games and then Electronic Arts for subsequent releases.
Good thing you are all doctors and have strong opinions on this topic.

@@sloppyjonuts9162 you don't have a clue.
Constant activities + topics that are not explained properly + lack of teachers teaching + competition = burnout
Hard to explain but the system of education really failed me, you are supposed to learn not compete with time.

3 days? What a joke. When you actually burn out even a month won't do it.
Haha
It’s these small “victories” that accumulate and make you feel better about yourself.
Good luck!

Okay Karen
The difference is you choose to be a parent. You have a hopefully rewarding relationship with your child. It’s not a one sided energy and mental health drain. No one chooses to be ill or incredibly chronically stressed. Not saying you can’t be stressed and exhausted being a parent but it’s definitely and different situation. People have to work to live and pay their bills and buy food. No one has to be a parent.
That was your choice. Now live with it.

Not just about work. It can be your life circumstances such as caring giving or chronic illness/pain.
Thank you!
literally every parent ever knows what burnout is. nice to see it's a legit diagnosis now
Like others have stated in the comment section, burnout intervention takes effort from both the employee and upper management.

But yeah, my only criticism would be that it is not just based on work exhaustion…
But someone’s overall life, in general.
Life has just become so… negative. Tough. Exhausting. Cynical. Hopeless. Insignificant…
It’s no wonder why so many people are feeling so emotionally scarred.
Why I decided not to have kids; because I don't know how a person can take on another like that after working all day.
yes, just giving so much of yourself where you do not have any energy for yourself. Yet you were able to help others. Not only related to work only- but life. you wake up and realize you can not move forward.

The people who say burnout isn't real haven't seen what real stress feels like what it feels to work constantly for 18 hours straight over coffee without sleep just because you had a deadline,
Now imagine doing that for months, at some point you'll break and that's burnout.
The next step is for our society to make it acceptable at the workplace to take a sick day for mental health reasons without the employee being looked or talked upon as weak or too sensitive. I know some places do offer “mental health days” but it still feels inappropriate/risky to make use of them without being frowned upon. 😔
Agree!!

@Tom Jones When you have to work you have to work. Has nothing to do with competition in a "mans" world burn out weighs heavy on anyone whose working hard nowadays regardless of the type of work.
Spiceybooger Spiceybooger : thank you . I am going to make more efforts like this . Thanks for you’re help
@Tom Jones okay sexist

Most managers don’t care or pick up on it. They are usually focused on their own issues and not trained to look at burnout.

Wow...imagine being a medical provider watching this 2 years post pandemic 😷
I didn't know this was a real thing. Cuz real talk, about a month ago I straight ghosted a job where I made $40+/hr for all these reasons they say are symptoms of burnout. And since I've quit, I actually am beginning to loathe the idea of taking another job in this same field because I feel like it'll be the same thing all over again
Bro same. I still havent quit but i feel like i need a 3+ month break. They just told me that i meed to work sundays too… Seriously considering idc about the money no more
I did the same thing a couple of years ago! Still struggling to focus and I feel terrified to get back to corporate sector again!!! Things are being hard!
How are you doing now?
@@keerthanasundaram2775 after I quit that job I was out of work for about a month. Took another job in the same field but a different location (South Carolina, I live in FL). Was there about 5 months and wife was adamant about staying in FL. So I came back to FL, started another job about 2 months later and pretty quickly got right back to where I was at when I commented on this video 🤣

Who is this woman? She's so beautiful and graceful and funny I love her
This segment was filled with pat and simple answers that aren't easy to execute.
Exactly!!!! I work in corporate America and work 60-70 week and no help.
This segment is unrealistic because if people could take time off from work and find another job, which is usually not the solution, they would not be burned out.
You can also try switching departments
I did that but no longer cared about upward mobility in that crappy company
Moving up in Walmart isn’t worth it. It just increases your chances of getting fired for other peoples short comings. I’m happier as a stocker and making more than most people in my store.
I just wish they would at least give us a break when needed 🤦🏾♂️ and I’m not talking about 15 mins, not 1 a hr lunch , not a 2 or 3 days weekend, In other countrys laws protect citizens when they need a mental break from work
I'm a burnout
He's simply talking about taking breaks from stress sources, but how to be less prone to stress/burnout?
finding and doing things you find fulfilling in your work and hobbies helps a lot
Your 15 yo should be helping you. In other countries the older siblings basically raise the younger ones.
My message to everyone is: do not test your limits. When you break, you will not be strong enough to recover. I do not wish it upon anyone. Work less.
Took a month off and felt the need to go to the bathroom to just breathe two days after I started.
But it's either that or starving.
@@ayshamoumane Good luck on the new job. I hope it will treat you well :)
ITS NOT JUST BEHIND A JOB OR WORKPLACE TF! ITS ABOUT LIFE
I feel this way as a single mom.
know what you like, do what you love, try different things here and there. anything making you feel down change it or replace it. if you get the idea rest is up to you. remember you and your baby is number one priority for you.
Open office space made me burnout went from a private office to open hall with cubes hearing everyones convo and meeting
Is very easy to really understand... when you have heavy health problems... and your ego and needs don.t leave you give up. I thing i brought burn out to extremE. I NEED HELP.. I SEE NO HELPING HAND
My entire highschool career
"You don't want to Live to Work,You want to Work to Live." -
Thats right.
It's no joke because it's not depression and you can recover quick but you have to work on it
A weekend away!?! Do you know what actual burnout is like? I’m so burnt out I can’t even taste food or listen to music. I’ve started having emotional reactions to sound, where someone chewing makes start crying, it’s extreme constant fight or flight mode that burns out your system. Need way more than a weekend away.
Me who searched for burnout fly high 🕳️👄🕳️
Everybody at work says I'm a burnout...but I'm totally chill, brah.

Can you get burnout from breathing?
Or eating 😆
Or just existing
The thing is i dont mind some stress, but at the workplace you are not allowed to fight for yourself.
If you start ANYTHING there you get FIRED
I can fight, but jobs are absolute madness
You are stuck between a rock and a hard place there and THATS what causes the burnout
this is why I started my own business!

A manager says to his employee, you shouldn't feel stressed because you're the counsellor of others.
True story
At the point of "Burnout" a 3 day holiday is not the solution. Burnout does not just affect you at work, when you are burned out it is also affecting you at home. Your 3 day holiday is just 3 more days of worry and stress. And how many can really afford a Holiday anymore?
"Burn-out is included in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an occupational phenomenon. It is not classified as a medical condition." - from WHO. It is not a medical condition. However, it is one of the contributing factors of poor health and people reaching out for help.

My toxic job is burning me out bad
I believe I am going through this right now.
Everytime I take 3 or 4 days off it makes me not want to go back.
Sounds like you're on your way out of that job!
I like camping because it disconnects me from everything. Not internet nothing.

Welp...2 out 3 for me...i just scheduled some vacation.
Why can't that be home/family stress as well,.especially for Mother's of very dependent children...?
