I grew up on an isolated farm along the Orange River in that region. As you're walking through the landscape, childhood memories came flooding back. The silence of the desert and the feeling like you're the first person walking across the clean, pure sand; the fresh scent of the wet earth, preferable to any perfume and the sound of water across the ancient rocks - so beautiful and peaceful. When you leave that desert region along the Orange River, it makes a wound in your heart that never heals. So many memories. Now we have waterfalls of tears. 😭 Thanks soooo much for sharing.

Very eloquently put. I was there walking along with Jors too. Out in the American west I've found many places where you hang your feet over a ledge, or soak in isolated hot srpring. I just love being out where you can't find a radio station on the FM dial and let the belt off your head and let your mind expand to fill up the vast (goo) emptiness.

Even at the end of the run like this it still tastes a bit like soil, but it is pretty good.

What a magnificent video. sight and sound transported me to walking beside you Jors. The rock formations, seeing water flow in desert sand and hearing the waterfalls was fantastic therapeutic stuff. Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed it, it is a pity that people do not get to do things like this anymore. As kids we spent so much time exploring the local rivers and streams, nowadays kids do not do it.

Awesome, thank you for sharing. I live in New Mexico, White Sands Missile Range. High desert about 1450 meters, highest mountain peaks north of 5000 meters. We have had some wonderful extreme rains. Wish I could post pictures of some of the dry creeks/streams and water falls flowing. We have a large number of oryx, some large herds, imported in the 1960s. Anyway, thanks for sharing and the adventure. Miss South Africa, awesome country, I lived and worked some 6 years in South Africa and 2 years in Namibia. My wonderful lady is Afrikaans from Paarl. Cheers Jors

I was planning a trip to the US for June 2020 , had the VISA and tickets in hand then Covid happened. I really want to see the Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico areas.
      Cheers

This brought tears to my eyes. It is truly a miracle to see this clear water flowing so strongly over those ancient rocks. I just want to get a bucket and water all those trees that wait so patiently for just a tiny sip. Thank you so much for sharing this, you are absolutely right to be excited about this wonderful sight. Regards Val

    • @JorsMalan

The falls get pretty big at peak flow, this time there was less above the falls, but enough to get it flowing. In 1998 that waterfall was a torrent of water about 50m wide.

Thanks for sharing Jors. I had two thoughts. 1. Wonderful sights and sounds for us that appreciate and enjoy God’s creation. 2. And our municipality’s lack of maintenance makes us see that amount of water gushing out of the ground regularly. This past week there were two burst pipes in our suburb alone mere kilometres from my home.. 😎
