Yes. It appeared on 1973's eponymously titled "Montrose." Same album in which "Bad MOtor Scooter" and "Rock Candy" appeared. To me, this was the band's best album.
Eddie Van Halen mentioned in several interviews that one of his music goals was to duplicate Ronnie's monster guitar tone. He came close, and eventually (as we all know) hired Ronnie's first lead singer (Sammy Hagar) as a bonus.
Ronnie MONTROSE was the man,Sammy hagar was just a background singer,in 75 an 76,but they blended smoothly together, neither taking the spot light, worked together seamlessly
montrose should have gotten more praise when they first came out... ronnie montrose is up there with some of the greatest to ever do it and quite frankly if it wasnt for him alot of people probably wouldn't have ever came out without his influence
GOD knows WHY we had MANY talks why ronnie and i on why are you struggling man? Ronnie looks at me and says IT'S all about promoting that steve takes LOTS of money rock in PEACE ronnie you taught me so much it was so much a. Dream playing those small venues the most greatist TIMES in my music endovrs
tough call; keith couldn't compete with Sammy for that Montrose sound; just like Sammy couldn't quite take your mind off of DLR's vocals for that VanHalen signature sounds(IMO)
Got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden. This means a) I'm old. And b) I got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden.
This song CRANKS! Ronnie was a master at Power rhythm guitar!. No other guitarist to date has come close to duplicating the sound and feel Montrose executes in this clip. You can't force power strokes like this, one is born with the ability! Ronnie was backbone, he was the substance, and he felt the chops deep inside his soul. What a great guitar player.
I am an old guy with some decent concert memories.First half of 1974 in Savanah,GA.Spooky Tooth & Humble Pie with some opening act called Montrose.By the time RM dropped his gitfiddle at the end of Jailhouse Rock & filed off stage(That thing was still raising allhell even Once they"d gone) it felt like they"d brought the roof down!!! That crowd still screamed for them even after The Pie came on.A fantastic experience. The jams,my boys,& the biggest revolving reflective disco ball I have ever seen!!!!
I love Ronnie and all encarnations of supporting players - We lost a great on - SO hey people ! I have the ful concert - Ronnie gave me permission to post all the tunes - I'm working on them - LONG LIVE RONNIE MONTROSE !!!
Thanks man ! It was an HONOR to record him and hang with him- After I shot it he invited me to go to an award ceremony with him for a reward :-) SO INSANELY COOL !! I have to ge on editing up the rest of those songs...
Saw Montrose second behind headliner Journey with a then unknown Van Halen as the "warm up" band. This was Lakeland Florida 1978. Montrose had the biggest stack of gear I'd ever seen in my life. Great show.
I saw BOC with UFO the night before that show and always kick my own ass for not seeing that show. But I had a ticket to see Van Halen open for Black Sabbath Halloween of '78, last tour with Ozzy and last tour of Van Halen as an opening band, but we found a couple of bales of pot in the Gulf, and my dad found it and turned me in to the cops, so I missed that show too.
September '77 Sammy went out on his own, Ronnie did an all instrumental album. Went to San Jose Civic to see him. A little known band called AC/DC opened for him. Great double feature.
You fans are awesome - I loved him too. What a gift, yeah? Thanks for leaving awesome comments here on my page - very much appreciated. Montrose fans ROCK!
.. i was on island 🏝 ( Oahu ) 14th of age .. Driving Ball with a Very Young Sam .. Really Powerful Material .. Now i play Cause Beautiful Awesome Stuff ❤ .. God Bless All ofYou you
The singer and the other guys do it justice. Good to hear Montrose still cranking it here. "Oh what a time we had. livin' underground." Being a hippie was like, alright! He's here, she's here. Yeah. We were underground.
RONNIE M.--LOVE YA!! MISS YA!! VERY 1st ALBUM I BOUGHT OFF A FRIEND UP THE ST. $3.OO!! STILL PLAYING THE KIT RONNIE & SAMMY!! LOVE YA && STILL REMEMBERING & PLAYING THE MUSIC TODAY!!! THANKS & GOD BLESS YA & YOUR FAMILYS!!!cc

Montrose is still the best/first real live Hard Rock band in the US. The musical talent and lyrics are timeless. I'm 60yrs. They were The Who "over the pond " and I love them both James.
I was at this show too. Ronnie opening for Y&T. There was deffo some "Good Rockin'" that night. Thanks for posting this brother. The RAZOR KING is gone... LONG LIVE THE KING!!! R.I.P.
Fantastic. Montrose 1 as has been pointed out was ahead of its time in many ways. Paved the way for Van Halen 1. Hi energy guitar rock. I first heard it '77/'78. Stands the test of time.. Great stuff................
Much better. Thanks. Believe it or not, shock therapy really did work for me. . . and I can still think clearly. : ) I can also make microwave popcorn with my bare hands!
Rockin Ronnie still one so underrated and many of us will always remember that he was one of the best pure kickbutt guitar playing songwriting legends of all time never ever forgotten not a day goes by I think I miss the man and wondering what would he be playing his music and so many concert s. Inspirational to me and the day I met Mr Ronnie was the most amazing day in my life
@jamirosmajicrocks If this is a question then the answer is huge. I was 16 years old when I first heard Ronnie play with Edgar Winter. Then the next year, 1973 the Montrose album was released pioneering American Power Rock. The fan base was big in the US and Europe. Went to numerous concerts with Montrose as the headliner and Journey as one of the opening bands. The unimaginable thing was the tickets were $5.00 and there were always three major bands. RIP Ronnie Montrose.
Good songs never die! A classic! MONTROSE RULES! This album made me want to ROCK! Ill never forget it. Ronnie has some killer gear here, great tone. Baker guitars and Bogner amps, awesome combination. Go for it Ronnie! The haters will fade and you will go down in history as one of the rocking royalty. Gotta love the T-Shirt he is wearing. THINK!!!
Saw Montrose a couple times in the 70's. I guess I was also witnessing the "Red Rocker." Then there's Ronnie Montrose. 70's musicians could not be beat. Trust me on that!
great song, great guitarist, dave ellefson and jimmy degrasso to boot . i got to see ronnie in GAMMA at old chicago amusement park back in early 80s. R.I.P. ronnie your music will live on.
ok you're rocking heart was there.but in 79 at cow palace on new years eve 79 + 80 it was sammy Hagar and Rick derringer Montrose went stage with both of them for 2 songs= now when gamma played cow palace it was 1981 gamma opened for blue oyster cult I Duncan reid was there the light man messed up for Ronnie s spot light and Ronnie flipped off the light man.
goddamn this kicks ass !!!!!!!!! back mid 70s montrose montrose album was thee drug 4 me and friends in high school , greatest partying album EVER = PURE LIGHT / ENERGY !!!! great to see ronny & crew still kicking this much ass , might even be a better version here 2008 then olden days . KICK ASS MONTROSE
Saw Montrose in Syracuse NY in the mid-1970s in a club. A band called Wale led off and it was some night. Ronnie looked like he was melded to the guitar. He looks a little more casual now. Absolutely great rock-n-roll.
The first album is one of the top 10 great hard rock albums of all time! Rock the Nation, Ronnie.
Greatest rock debut of all time...A masterpiece...
I was 15 years old when this was released and consider it one of the best albums of the 70's.
Without a doubt. On that album. Singer fella is some guy. Who went by sam Hagar. I have the album. Aka. Sammy
Red rocker

Yes.u instantly in kick ass rock hall of greatness, baby!
Holy shit, that was tight! 70's - great time to be alive. 2021 = not so much.
Saw a t shirt that said - " I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands". Truer word's have never been spoken!!
Have that shirt, and I got to tour with Ronnie back in 87. Lucky me
He came close, and eventually (as we all know) hired Ronnie's first lead singer (Sammy Hagar) as a bonus.
massively underrated rock guitarist
rip ronnie
Ronnie MONTROSE was the man,Sammy hagar was just a background singer,in 75 an 76,but they blended smoothly together, neither taking the spot light, worked together seamlessly
Ronnie was never ever underrated. He just didn't do much after Sammy left. So when you drop off the radar, you seem underrated to the uneducated
montrose should have gotten more praise when they first came out... ronnie montrose is up there with some of the greatest to ever do it and quite frankly if it wasnt for him alot of people probably wouldn't have ever came out without his influence

I agree 👍
Absolutely 💯
Ronnie lived the life of a true blues player, it was all about the music - simple as that. He was a monster.
Montrose's sound had texture. Can't duplicate that. A gift from the Guitar Gods.
Texture for sure. Well said.
Can't believe how good this guy's voice is.
Agreed. This fucker rocks. What the hell is his name?
Keith St. John
Thays a young one an only SAMMY HAGAR
@@nickbernath8 No. Keith style is very true to the original.
Still is after all these years
I'll never forget hearing this tune back in 74, i have loved Montrose ever since. Rest in peace Ronnie from a true fan.
Ronnie was one of the best guitarists ever and thoroughly enjoyed what he was doing. Rip Montrose.
Not bad. The singer did a nice job of comping Sammy's style. And the band sounded surprisingly good, for a live recording.
Keith did an outstanding job on lead vocals! 🤩
tough call; keith couldn't compete with Sammy for that Montrose sound; just like Sammy couldn't quite take your mind off of DLR's vocals for that VanHalen signature sounds(IMO)
One of the coolest songs ever written, rest easy Ronnie.
Got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden. This means a) I'm old. And b) I got to see Montrose open for The Who at Madison Square Garden.
@Dan Bertucci - not to mention.....
I saw Montrose open for Foghat in 73. So I have that.
Martin Zaehringer 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I also saw them open for The Who at Charlton fc in London. Bad Co, Lou Reed and Humble Pie were also on the bill that day.
And it means C: You’re lucky, to be born early enough to see bands like this. Me, Winterland around 1973 while in high school.
Its so badass to see Dave Ellefson playing with Montrose !!
Only tears since this morning !! Can believe it ! Sad day, RIP Ronnie you will be missed !!!
RIP Ronnie. You are awesome!
