    Highly recommend this video and part 1.
    I already used part 1 to replace my shift cable. And really couldn’t have done made the repair without it.
    Michael could have just ended part 1 with saying, “Now that the cable is replaced, just re-install the interior.” But he didn’t. Thank goodness, he made this video.
    Within 15-30 minutes, I had the interior back together. What a time saver.
    Thanks, Michael!

    waiting on my cable from ebay. it helps to make room by taking off the cooling fan of the radiator on the driver's side. also, if your car is on a downhill slant, like say in a driveway, place things under the tires to prevent the car from moving. nearly found out the hard way after the fact. good video! i watched part 1 first.

    Hey Michael, Many thanks mate. Your video saved me a heap of time and money. I found that my cable hadn't actually broken, the battery cover for the positive had fallen down behind where the external shift cable attached to the transmission such that it caused the shift lever to jam. The gear cable simply had popped off the internal shift lever when I tried to push the lever to park and couldn't as cable had jammed up on the fallen battery cover.

    Thnx for this video -- I came here as my shift cable stopped working and after removing the covers, I found that the problem was only that the rubber bushing wore out, but this video did not show how you reconnected the shifter end to the spigot under the T-bar.

      @@DIYwithMichaelBorders I tried to repair the cable with Jb weld but it failed. I am going to replace it with a new one. I saw that the one you installed had the threaded end on both ends. Does that threaded end just pop out on the gear shift side so you can hook it up on the inside of the car? All the ones on eBay look exactly like that. When I tried to ask the supplier if this was the case they would not respond. I was just wondering if the threaded end just pops out and then you pop it on the gear shift. There’s quite a bit in price difference to get one from the auto parts store and eBay. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    I just did a full engine swap on my 2004 rx330. I lost the u shaped shift cable retainer clip but I got an e clip and got it in there. I attached the shift cable and switched the shifter from neutral to park but I can still turn the wheels by hand. Maybe I didn’t get the rectangular bit at the base of the threaded rod into the rectangular recess on the transmission shift lever? I haven’t actually turned the engine over yet going to be doing that tomorow after finishing up fluids and reconnecting the battery. I had to put the vehicle in neutral after disconnecting the battery to remove the half of the driveshaft that goes into the transfer case. Now I’m just paranoid about getting everything right before I turn her over for the first time in a few months.

    Dude How did you have such a detailed video but you left out the hardest part. It's impossible to get that bolt under the dash by the driver side back in. I tried everything. Ratchet wrench, tape, sockets, adapters ,wobblers, magnet, I don't even have any more ideas I slept on it for 3 days can't figure it out

    Bro omg took everything apart for my moms Solara (should be the same set up as the Camry) wow had to take all this apart to get the shifter cable linkage. Her shifter gears went limp. Car would just roll. Is there anyway to keep the new shifter cable new in place cause I ordered one from Amazon since no part store has any sort of past that fits

    Hi brother, great video! I have the exact same car and mine will start but when I press the brake and shift, it shifts into all the gears but wont actually go into the gear. I checked everything you showed on the video but I am so confused. Do you think it is my transmission?

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching, it’s possible that your transmission is the cause however hopefully not.
      How does your transmission fluid level look inside transmission reservoir? Is it low…? If so, we recommend bringing it back up to within the proper fill parameters.

    New cables are expensive. I dont trust the $16 cables online. NAPA has one new for $80. They also have them exceeding $260. Rock Auto is $163. Im going with the $80 NAPA cable bought locally.

But want to point out my local NAPA Auto Parts cable part #0742409 was listed on site at $79 but when it arrived the cost was $69. I feel this cable is a good choice between a $16 cable on ebay and all other $200 $300 options plus arrived next day.
