I'd say the Invader is extremely versatile. Setting your amp to a good 'metal' setting, all you need is the guitar volume control to back off the sound to a rhythm crunch, and even ballsy breakup style sounds, so you have a whole spectrum of sounds without having to touch any foot switches or pedals. Great for your punk simplicity and raw aggression.
Would the invader be a good pickup for heavy fuzz laden riffing? I’m looking for a humbucker that packs a punch but doesn’t over saturate fuzz or anything of the like.
verbotenco well he's got Grover tuners fitted, two Bare Knuckle pickups fitted, CTS pots and a new nut on this guitar, so I've a feeling it's worth a fair bit more.
I think when people complain about the invader being muddy, I understand but I got mine to sound great just buy lowering the pickup height it did wonders for the sound

@@antimurphy8212 yeah thats true, I was thinking about buying these pickups, if you have any other recommendations for not too "death metal" sounding, but not to the point where its classic rock, please tell me I would love to know,
The guitar I played here is tuned to drop B flat and I feel the pickup still retains its sharpness and note definition at that tuning, and most likely will continue to do so as far as drop A.
It is a rare pickup that never looses its edge as times change but the Invader might be an exception. I finally broke down and ordered a set today in part because people are still talking about these 30 years after their release a long time ago. It may be that the music of this era is making a comeback as well but the Invader might just outlive us all.
I never had any issue with ground noise on this guitar. I did however rewire the entire thing, so I ensured that everything was connected to ground and that all the cavities were screened with conductive paint.
I've got a set of d activators in my Ibanez Xiphos, they have a completely different sound to the SD Invaders. They are cutting and precise, great for adding clarity to solos and lead work, but they lack the same growl and nastiness that the Invaders have. I think the D Activators would get you closer to the thrash sound than the Invaders would, although having them in V style guitars which have a quite clinical sound anyway might lack character. Both are good, but for different reasons.
I had one in the bridge of a bright partscaster. Worked very well for hetfieldy sounds. Not so good in warm guitars. Very good if there is only one guitar, or if the other guitarist has something very bright and tight like a dimebucker, but does not play well in the mix with less extreme guitars. Really awkward if there are synths or violins going on.
I put invaders in my Jackson JS22 awhile back, still in there, brutal....brutal pickups, haven’t been disappointed yet, although a bit bass heavy, it can be worked out in a number of ways, Eq pedal, amp tone, guitar tone, etc. so if you want a heavy passive pup, look no further.

Problem is, pickups are designed specifically for a certain position on a particular guitar. In other words, if a pickup is designed for a Les Paul and you put it into a Strat, you're not getting the sound it was designed with because of its position, scale length, proximity to the bridge, etc. It can still sound great, but a lot of good pickups get bad reviews because not many people realize that.
Talking about the invader, I notice that it tends to sound very good and clear on very bright guitars, like strats and such, or maybe an Ibanez RG, but IMO on Les Pauls sounds too dark and muddy, some people may like it of course, on musical tastes, there is nothing written, but in my experience the Invader sounds amazing on my custom Partcasters, way better than the Dimarzio Super Distortion, it sounded good but the Invader sounds better, the SD is a bright and clear pickup, while the Invader is a dark pickup so, yeah lmao

+JgHaverty stock they're pretty bassy. I find the tone a bit flabby. I've corrected this by changing the poles for ferrous steel hex slugs, tightens it up a lot and costs pence. I still find the sound a bit "harsh ceramic" so I'm going to experiment with replacing the main magnet with alnico 8.

Jaime Alexander Dávila I play a number of different genre's such as Hard Rock, Metal, Clean, Jazz, Blues, Acoustic and Punk; but on my Les Paul I mainly play Punk/Pop-Punk (my favourite band being Blink-182) so I was thinking of putting Invaders in my Les Paul, since they're renowned for their Punk sound capability. I know they may not be the most versatile of pick ups for other genres, but I have my other Les Paul and my Stratocaster for that (also picking up a Telecaster soon). So do you think it's a wise idea?
Ross Geller Nah, I put them into an SG and they are WAY too muddy. The bass and mids are too much for anything but a relatively bright guitar (I could see them being used in metal rhythm) They'd do great in HH Tele though. I've tried some other pickups in similar guitars at my local store and I'd say, Try a Duncan Distortion for a nice sizzling gain sound, or a Duncan Custom for a better all around sound.
Won't get that classic old school tonebfrom them, they're meant for very heavy playing. The Jb sh4 will get jist as dirty, and still have that old school tone, very versatile very good from sd

Invaders and Gibson Dirty Fingers got the same thick midrage quality to my ears, but DF got more open highs that doesnt sound muffled and the cleans is better too. Picked the Dirty Fingers over this. Maybe the Invaders need 1Mega Ohm pots to let more upper frequencies through.
I'll link you to my review of my 333 infinium. Excellent amplifier, robust, reliable and works best with EL34s, rather than the stock 6L6s, in my opinion. The XL differs only in having EL34s as standard and a built in noise gate. Bugera 333 Infinium: Gear Review

I'm pretty sure alot of people wanna know where the riff from 1:34 is from
sounds like he's just messing around with Master of Puppets
+Adam Kendall are you deaf

Opinions on putting Invaders in an Epiphone Les Paul Studio? Anyone had any experience with Invaders in Les Pauls? Is it a good or a bad idea?
Did you put them? How do they sound?
Jaime Alexander Dávila I haven't done it but I'm thinking about it, that's why I asked the question.
I've noticed these humbuckers are made only for metal. Gibson 490t & 498t are just great. I could say they sound better than Slash SD humbuckers.
Is invader forgiving? Or will it pronounce every technical deficiency?
Do you think the Invader could get some Nirvana type distorted tones?
+William Pierce Tom DeLonge from blink-182 was playn with invader till 2003
They are super high output with a lot of bass and mid. Don't use them with a dark amp
Won't get that classic old school tonebfrom them, they're meant for very heavy playing. The Jb sh4 will get jist as dirty, and still have that old school tone, very versatile very good from sd
nice demo..i appreciate that you used a lot of variations.. clean/dirty/tone settings etc... i have both the sh6 and sh 8 in different guitars..i also get the duncan designed detonators as a less expensive alternative ..they call em HB108.. ---or if you want a duncan designed like a sh-6 get the HB103
damn they clean up nice. if i had the money id buy some
How did you get rid of the back noise (ground noise) on a squier?
Don't worry, I've got crackly pots too in my squier, but I am one day going to change
the electronics
is there a 500k volume pot in that guitar? or 250k?
thats an alder body right? also have you tried the sh-6 in in a strat in comparison?
Squire I think popular,no alder
It's about time guitar nerds learned that the material of the body makes no difference to tone.
Invaders and Gibson Dirty Fingers got the same thick midrage quality to my ears, but DF got more open highs that doesnt sound muffled and the cleans is better too. Picked the Dirty Fingers over this. Maybe the Invaders need 1Mega Ohm pots to let more upper frequencies through.
what do you think about the bugera 333xl infinium?
I'll link you to my review of my 333 infinium. Excellent amplifier, robust, reliable and works best with EL34s, rather than the stock 6L6s, in my opinion.
The XL differs only in having EL34s as standard and a built in noise gate.

CSGuitars GC here has that head used for a damn really low price. I need to go play through one and check it out.

I am here with a very lame question may be but still I would like to ask everyone out here...I have a $100 guitar(origin unknown..i dnt know what kind of wood it has )no result even on google search...so under this condition if I like to go for duncan pickups will it be worthy enough to spend the money on it...this one was my first electric guitar which i bought from a local music store 7 years back which plays pretty well when played with processor via sony hi-end MDR XB series headphones...can handle dirty patches or tube amp like presets pretty well (never tried on amp tough) currently I have Ibanez RGA42FM...any kind of suggestions and feedbacks are most welcome...Thank you
Sounds a bit dark?
What do you think about putting the invader on a 76 les paul custom? Bridge?
Are you some battery for the pickup bro?...
?? its a passive pickup...
Ok dude.Tnx...
