I think the most undervalued man in existence... is the one that sees value in EVERYTHING. Mustie is a true inspiration. He doesn’t give up and he turns the strangest things into works of art. Wish more people had his perspective and drive... world would be a much cooler place.

yup and make it unnecessarily complex. Like, 1- main power, 2-pannel/interior power, 3- engine power, 4- fuel pump, 5- fans, 6- push to start.

Find a good indie shop to work for and you'll pick up a lot. Spend some time at a dealership too. Meld the two together then open your own shop.

Hi Mustie, just to say thanks . I just had a couple of knee replacements two or three weeks ago. I have been viewing my way through your back catalogue during some long slightly uncomfortable nights. Half watching ,half dozing, your soothing voice and pace of video have been just perfect for passing long nights. The new knees are getting better day-by-day by the way.
    Thanks and keep them coming!

I am getting a 68 double cab on the road and it needs EVERYTHING. Ignition key won't turn, no brakes, wrong front spindles, nasty gas tank, steering is loose, no interior, rat nest wiring, rust, and of course no engine. After sourcing a 1600 dual port, new spindles, drums, wheels, ignition, tank, etc. I think I will have it driving by February. I love seeing how fast you are at all these things, and how you make decisions based on part availability. Thank you so much for these videos, I have learned a ton.

Had a leak like that happen on an old 63 Ford Econoline Van that I was driving back from Washington DC having been transferred from Fort Meyer to a recruiting station in Minnesota. We had just gone through a tunnel on the PA Turnpike when the engine sputtered and stopped. Those old things had the engine between the seats on that model. So I pulled over, it was about midnight and I could see the bright light from under my van. My two kids were asleep in the back on a bed I had built for the trip and I knew I had to get them out and summon help. It was 1977 and there were no cell phones but I had a CB in the rig so I shouted out for help on channel 9 after getting the kids and wife out of the burning van, within seconds, it seemed, I had a state trooper and two highway trucks on the site and they put out the fire with their extinguishers. The van was dead though, I had purchased it from my uncle a year before, it was unique as he had replaced the 6 cylinder engine with a 283 Chevy engine, and he later told me that the particular carb he had put on it did have a problem with a plug coming out and the fuel would pump out over the engine, catching fire. Well my insurance kicked in and within a couple days staying at a cheap motel, I was ready to go once more in a beat up old pickup that I found on a bulletin board at the laundromat where my wonderful wife (RIP) was cleaning our cloths so we could travel on. My uniforms were a mess and would have to visit a dry cleaner when I got to my new duty station though.

We, or at least I would like to see some more on this car! It's a piece of history even if it's a lower budget kind of car, I find it very interesting. The wiring is kind of a ugly mess, but it's not an impossible task. Really helps to have a second hand, but you can always make a long jumper to ring the wires out one by one, they're color coded so you can at least ball park what they were intended for. At the very least, show it scootin around the yard! Thanks for the videos and keep em coming!

For all of you talking about the rear "sway bar". Its a camber compensator. Designed to keep the swingaxle suspension from a condition during hard cornering called jacking, where the tire tucks under causing loss of traction. If that happens you will probably end up going off the road backwards or upside down or both...

Many years ago (over 40) I rebuilt a 914 engine in my apartment. After it was done, I borrowed a friends garage for a weekend and swapped engines. My Porsche 914 was a beast!!!
That Steering wheel looks like it came out of a 1966 Mustang......
A lot of small differences between the 914 (VW type 4 engine) and the VW type 3 engine....

The original guy must have been on drugs when he decided to put the fuel pump where it was, and he anticipated cell phone texting when he built the overhead switch panel where you have to look up and to the side to find your switch. Looking forward to the "mystery" project, which is probably the Lambo kit car. BTW- you are supposed to set the crank end play with the shims before to install the rear seal.

Alas the dilemmas that come into our lives. I was looking at al that wiring and have seen and bought a wire tracer. I havent found a use for mine yet as I found and fixed the problem where someone used the hole in the back of the outlet and the little piece holding the wire in failed. I've learned an electric inspection will fail if connected like that. Known to cause fires. I wired it to the side terminal & working fine. It would save a ton of time sorting those wires out. If it works, lol. I bought the PTE wire tester on amazon for $25. $ star with over 1300 reviews. You've got your work cut out for you. But quite sure you'll prevail. Thanks for sharing.

Noticed when you started the engine outside the car; number one cylinder was throwing a little fire at the exhaust outlet. Apparently it was intermittent, and igniting unburned gases in the header pipe occasionally. These kit cars give a guy an appreciation for the effort that goes into engineering and producing an automobile that's sold to the consumer. Enjoyed following you through this project.
