The auction just states where the facility is, it doesn’t say who the owner of the unit is. No facility has live and online auctions. I have seen many private owner units for sale on storage treasures, the only difference is the girl who collects the money works for the facility and allowed storage treasures to assume these were foreclosed units. She and her partner (if she had one) staged the unit and then pocketed the money.

That's exactly what I thought of immediately when he did that, that's good cop/bad cop, textbook example. Whether they realized that as they were doing it or not. It's an effective interrogation technique for a reason. First you introduce them to bad cop. Then once you get them good and scared you introduce good cop, and psychologically the theory is you'll be more flexible in talking to the nice guy if you think you have a better chance of a good outcome with him vs the other one. It's classic.

What you should do to actually find and prove they’re doing this is, purchase a unit and fill the unit with items and take note of every single thing. Place everything in certain locations and document and take photos of what you’re going to leave it as. Let it go to auction and buy the unit back and if you notice things that are missing or misplaced or items added to the unit you know once and for all. That’s the most rock hard evidence you’re going to get of them doing this

I bought a unit once, It opened and there was Jordan Shoe boxes, a jewelry box with a small gold chain just hanging out the door... when I went to inspect everything was empty, the corrupt workers/owners took out the good shit and sold the boxes to us.
This is a old scam my great uncle owned several thrift stores from about the 70s to the 90s and I remember him telling me about places that did similar things same with estate sales but the storage places would take the junk from unpaid units n doctor n stage up units to look appealing crazy

That's exactly what I thought of immediately when he did that, that's good cop/bad cop, textbook example. Whether they realized that as they were doing it or not. It's an effective interrogation technique for a reason. First you introduce them to bad cop. Then once you get them good and scared you introduce good cop, and psychologically the theory is you'll be more flexible in talking to the nice guy if you think you have a better chance of a good outcome with him vs the other one. It's classic.
She got off easy with no reprecussions and in turn just became a smarter scammer once the initial fear and shock passes.
The one up top was a middle man in the past that got lucky one too many times and during became smarter and more brazen.

What you should do to actually find and prove they’re doing this is, purchase a unit and fill the unit with items and take note of every single thing. Place everything in certain locations and document and take photos of what you’re going to leave it as. Let it go to auction and buy the unit back and if you notice things that are missing or misplaced or items added to the unit you know once and for all. That’s the most rock hard evidence you’re going to get of them doing this
They are committing fraud by going through items and picking stuff out and leaving other stuff. One persons items must all be kept together and sold together.
Having said that they don't have to sell it in the same unit (can be moved) They could put some items in boxes to make it look better, that just makes them crappy people.

They take all the weapons (can't keep a firearm if one is found in a storage auction (or knowingly listed in the auction)) take all cash if in a unlocked cash box, etc etc. Leave a few good items in there to get the buyer excited/willing to come back/word of mouth and boom.. repeat.
That's what I would do honestly lol. I mean I wouldn't do it to cheat people I'd just take the stuff I wanted personally because ultimately it's the storage units loss when people don't pay their bills and that makes them lose money. I'd just take good tools because that's what I like lol.

I got screwed over on two units from a place in my town but I’m disabled and live paycheck to paycheck barely make enough for a tiny apartment and to take care of my son. I bought a unit once, It opened and there was Jordan Shoe boxes, a jewelry box with a small gold chain just hanging out the door... when I went to inspect everything was empty, the corrupt workers/owners took out the good shit and sold the boxes to us.

This is a old scam my great uncle owned several thrift stores from about the 70s to the 90s and I remember him telling me about places that did similar things same with estate sales but the storage places would take the junk from unpaid units n doctor n stage up units to look appealing crazy

My mom is an asst. Manager to a storage facility & she doesn't even have access to see the units up for auction. They have the Auctioneer guy come in, cut locks & take pics. They never do online auctions they like it being in person. What they did is so wrong. Glad you guys caught them.
