A guy came into the store asking for a military discount. I asked him for his military ID. He said he couldn't show me because he was special forces. He did deep undercover work. It was hilarious.

I'm almost 60 years old. I was a Navy aircraft structural mechanic during the Cold War, 1980-1986 (counting reserve time), and I get VERY uncomfortable when people thank me for my service. I am VERY proud of my time in the service, but I don't ask for military discounts, I don't ask for thanks, I don't put on my uniform and parade around, etc. I did my service for myself in that it was the right thing to do. I did it for my country, as I believe most Americans should. I did it to learn a trade. These reasons gave me the feeling of pride in myself for giving to something much greater and more important than myself: the United States of America and all of her citizens. Furthermore, it was NOT a sacrifice, but a privilege to serve!
I didn't do it to have strangers (or friends, for that matter), stroke my d!@k to make themselves feel patriotic. If they need to feel patriotic, they need to stroll down to the recruiting office and sign the papers. It's about our country, not us as individuals.

The people who openly thank you for your service are cringeworthy as well, it's almost as if they want to take part in your valor.
I felt this way because some buds of mine are state troopers. They were working the state fair and we were just walking around and they wear fatigues (NYS).
The people that went out of their way to thank them for their service were really odd.

FYI: AR 670-1 dated 26 January 2021 page 14 states: "Pens and/or pencils of any color may be worn exposed in the pen and pencil slots on any uniform with such slots." Most people assume you can't have colored pens/pencils. That's because few people bother to look it up. Colored markers are often used with orienteering which is a valuable soldier skill. In any case, colored pens are least of this kid's uniform issues.

I'm pretty sure that's not stolen valor but I guess they saw my shaved head and muscular build and thought I was a soldier from the base nearby. They pulled up to me and asked me all these unfamiliar questions. I was like dude I'm just staying at this campground past this park. He was like you can't wear those pants! I was like "the fuck I can't bitch, I got these from a surplus store. Now get the fuck out of my face!" And they peeled out. 😆 not cool with stolen valor but these guys just wanted to to start shit.

@@MegaSharpshooter1234 it wasn’t just the 80s. Military members don’t like wearing their uniform off base because you’re held to a higher standard when in uniform. After wearing a uniform all day on base, the last thing you want to do is wear it off base and attract attention.
Example: You’re off base in uniform and a friend wants to stop into a bar and have a drink. Ordinarily it wouldn’t be a big deal but while in uniform anything you do that reflects negatively towards the military can result in getting punished by your superiors. If ur in regular civilian clothing no one knows you’re in the military and even if they did you’re not held to the same standard.
When in uniform we’re expected to always have our uniform in order. We’re always being looked at, even off base and frequently by other military members who are in civilian clothes who we may not recognize as being in the military.
We just get tired of being looked at and having our every word/behavior judged so we take off the uniform as soon as we get home.
Not to mention the uniform is not the most comfortable clothing to wear.
Or, as the military likes or tell us: “When in uniform we are always on parade”

When is it going to be on Audible?
I’m a truck driver so I work long days doing my job so I don’t have time to stare at paper but I do have time to listen to a book.
I would gladly buy your book when it gets on Audible!

I did 6 years in the Marine Corps (Artillery) had a four year break in service and then did 14 years in the Army (Cavalry Scout). I was in Desert Storm and OIF1. I retired several years ago with 20 years of active service. No medals for valor (my highest award was an Army Commendation Medal lol), no special schools or units. No spec ops, no airborne ranger, no scout sniper, none of that. I rarely tell people that I served, other than wearing the occasional moto-shirt or hat...and most of those are slightly cryptic like a "Parris Island Alumni" Tshirt or a ball cap with crossed sabers on it. I feel cheesy about asking for discounts but I've done it a few times and HATE when asked to stand at a gathering. I didn't do anything more than millions of other Americans. I cannot fathom how these people can think that they can pose as veterans, in a society filled with veterans...all of whom can tell if you are the real deal in a matter of seconds with just a few observations and questions. First question I always ask somebody when I'm suspicious of their claims ... "Who were you with?"
