Decades later, it is mine. Richard Corben's DEN.

  • It must have been nearly 30 years ago I stumbled upon Richard Corben's work.
It's all the fault of the local library. While I was familiar with his Lone Wolf game book covers already at this time, but not the actual artist responsible for them, I started to connect the dots when first encountering his work when he collaborated with Harlan Ellison on the Vic & Blood adaptation.
There was no turning back after that.
At some point my brother and I found a video at that same library, part of a series, that focused on famous comic artists of the time. There was a part on Corben, on Den, along with many other artists that I can't remember- I tracked the video down once on UA-cam years ago, but have since had no such luck. I know there was a spotlight on Juan Gimenez's work as well.
Back to this book- it's an impressive touch up to say the least. It gives the feeling of what it would have been like to discover this when it was new and fresh, something I'll always be envious of.
Big props to Dark Horse for putting this back out into the world. Shame Corben himself wasn't able to see and appreciate his work being made available to a new generation of fans.
    Find it here!

I really love these old comics masters like corben, frazetta, moebius and others it's just so awesome to get Emers in these worlds and lose yourself.

I'm glad there's opportunities to enjoy these works for a newer audience, or for those of us who were too young and missed out when these books were first releasing.
I'm also glad there's still artists that really follow in the footsteps of those masters too!

I still have my old Heavy Metal and Metal Hurlant magazines that feature corben. If I recall correctly, Den was the very first story in th very first issue. I recall this because the colors and style are unmistakable. I strongly urge you to seek digital copies of the first 5 years of the magazine beginning april of '77. Moebius and his "cornelius and the airtight garage" are just as mind bendingly surreal.
I am so glad these serials are beginning to be released in broader publication reaches now. They used to be so niche. I guess they still are now that they are nearing half a century old...

I remember Corben, Heavy Metal and Den well. And have the original soft cover edition of Neverwhere in my library. Lovely reproduction of the art in your hard copy though.

I have Den comic books, and also a Den paperback graphic novel.
Do not have a hardback book though.
