    Swamp N Stomp is a channel or vlog, whatever you want to call it, dedicated to helping the hunting community grow, specifically in Florida. Studies show that the majority of modern hunters had family members who raised them as hunters, and a large portion of non-hunters want to hunt but don't know where to start. By documenting our hunting adventures, making instructional or tutorial videos, and really anything-hunting-related videos, we hope to help bridge that gap by providing practical information for beginner and experienced hunters on how to become a better and more ethical hunter. That’s how I do it too. Someone mentioned that it’s a lot of gear, but it’s what makes it safe and fool proof. I love climbing, hunting and descending with confidence. Doesn’t matter if you’re hunting out of a hang on or a saddle, you still have to get up and down safely.

    I bought sticks and I’ve been doing it a totally different way. I will be purchasing the gear and learning this method for next year.

    WOW that’s a lot of stuff my man!!! I luv watching videos of other peoples processes and systems. Always take something from these types of videos. I don’t use a mad rock but luv the backup hitch your using. Watch almost all your videos and we hunt totally different parts of the country!!! Great state of Maine here.

      That’s awesome man, I have a buddy that lives up there. I apply for that elusive moose tag every year! And yea, the friction hitch is the way. U can use it on pretty much any belay device

      @@SwampNStomp Yes the elusive moose tag!!! Luv that hunt for sure and we do a lot of guiding for that hunt. Nothing like calling like your calling a Turkey except when it comes in it’s 1000lbs. Sadly the moose are taking a SERIOUS beating now with winter ticks and dying off in alarming numbers!!!
      I’ve just started to play around with one sticking. Due to fear of my new Latitude Carbon sticks not coming in. They came in finally and are awesome but this gave me a push to try something else. I turned my “Wingman” into a one stick so think I’ll be using it during warmer weather and in known trees. However I believe I’ll be repelling out no matter what I use to climb up. So I live 15min from the Sterling rope factory and know people that work there. I got my hands on 38ft of Oplux and since mech devices aren’t in spec I’m currently ascending with a JRB compact hitch and descending with a secondary bridge and Munter hitch. I like the hitch you used as a back up though as it moved up and down rope stick as hell!!! Again thx for the videos and good luck drawing the ever elusive tag!!!!

    I was like, Yes!, Exactly!, and lol when you went off on the throw ball. You should try the S.M.A.R.T. one stix method. It'd be cool, to see you do it. By the way, I'm in Ga. and it makes a big difference. Don't know how you boys do it Fla.

    One of the best things about a one stick is that the steps aren't visible to the deer. My old mobile hunting strat was having 4 sets of steps on the tree and older deer see them a mile away and walk around the tree.

    I wonder... since you need a stick to put your gopro on, why don't you use that same stick to make your quicklink rope always higher than you?
    when I used to prune some Roystonea oleracea, I used a big bamboo stick to do this trick. i also used to carry a work positioning rope device too.
    Great vídeo. Keep posting.

      Ive tried it, I find it to be cumbersome and finicky. In the end I find I am safer just using my hands. There’s just an inherent danger in climbing this way and I have just accepted that. -Mark

    Why not use a lineman’s rope when going up also?

    • @SwampNStomp
      @SwampNStomp  11 місяців тому

      It makes it really
      Messy. When you are on the aider u kinda need to hold something solid (the tree) to help keep balanced. If you had to let go of the tree to move your lineman up you are just increasing your chance of falling. I have ascended wel over 100 times this way and have yet to slip. -Mark

    I've been doing this for arborist work & bowhunting. If a throwline or throwball seems like work then consider walking miles in March looking for animals. I don’t know about u but i like antlers connected to a deer. Going in & setting up places is something hunters should be doing the next 6 weeks. Finding antlers from deer give very little intel to a buck & where he's going to be 8 months from now. Remember, he dropped those antlers after the buck transitioned from an area he didn't feel pressured during the winter.
    I don't hunt telephone poles. I hunt 🌳 with big branches. I simply throw the ball up over a branch 15 feet off the ground. I make sure that i have a foothold like 10 to 12 feet up. When i go as high as i can on my SRT Line I take my linesman and wrap it around the 🌳. On one side of the linesman i have a closed English prusik loop. On the other side I clip a good triple locking carabiner onto the lineman. Then to choke off all the slack in the linesman i attach the carabiner to the prusik loop. Remember, that will hold me to the 🌳 tight & I have one foot on a foothold. Now that im safer than someone in a climber stand i take my throwball out with about 25 feet of line on it. I can easily toss that ball up higher than stand height. Then i take the throwball off & attach it to one end of my 40 foot SRT Climbing Line. I ascend up to that & sometimes i leave a Stepp made by Wild Edge wrapped around the 🌳. That way I have a something for a foothold & I can always bring a saddle platform with me many months later when i hunt it for the 1st time. I then belay to the ground. When i get to the ground I take camo paracord & attach it to the tag end of my Sterling 9mm climbing line & I pull that up over the crotch & back down with the other end which has a girth hitch with a small loop @ the base of it. So I climbed a 🌳 with 2 mini climbs, came down to the ground, attached 50 feet of paracord & it replaced the climbing line. When I go there months later im going in clean, not leaving a scent trail going up the tree with sticks. I'm also not leaving sticks around a tree for deer that i dont want to shoot blowing my hunt. I also have a 9.5mm Sterling Super Static rope that is a little longer than my 9 mm Sterling climbimg rope. To either rope i attach 1 carabiner, 1 Trango-Vergo belay & one piece climbing device, a 8 mm 30" hitchcord with small sewn loops @ the end with a CT Quick-roll left hand Hand Ascender. The Hand Ascender I dont even grab. It has a micro-pulley built into it so 2 fingers helow it just effortlessly pushes the ascender up & the micro pulley that i run the tag end of my lime through pulls me up & feels like im pulling 20 lbs. I can get into my climbing spot in 5 minutes cleanly & down & everything packed up & attached to my saddle in less than 5 minutes. Well worth the investment to be as safe as it gets while giving yourself more opportunities ❤😂🎉.
