If you're going to do a decent pop song then you can't go wrong with Sweden. I don't mind this song but having it first might put it in jeopardy a little against some of the more stronger songs. 3 mins really isn't long for a song and I think rather than go for a build up to the end of the song quite a few countries have gone with the "hit 'em from the start" direction. Remember also, this year marks 50 years since Abba won and I think Sweden have thrown everything into this year presenting it esp with the Melfest. I don't think they want to win and quite honestly you can see that from some of the other entries aswell.

Whilst youre right that they could have just internally sekected this, remember the show is important for donestic market in sweden, the whole top 15 in the swedish spotify were songs from this show so id say from a local perspective all the finslists were "winners" as they all had a hit pretty much.
I finally had to look up who the "Tattoo" you kept referencing was because I thought you were talking about the Russian girls "t.A.T.u." and I knew that couldn't be right. (This is my first time following Eurovision along with you)
I think honestly, the issue I have with Sweden is less that it does well, and more that the processed pop always looks so "modern music video-expensive." That might sound like a compliment, but think about what it means for Eurovision. Loreen - looked music video expensive. M&M - looks music video expensive. Benjamin Ingrosso - entire jury score was because of how it looked like a music video. And you think of all the poor countries that would NEVER, EVER have the budget to create something like this, who have to rely on the actual song and the charms of the artist. It just highlights the inequality of it all. "Heroes" wasn't really winning because of the song, it was winning because of the "perfect" production & staging. You wanna know what my favorite Swedish entry of late was? Hold Me Closer. Yes, another jury darling, but it wasn't so perfect. Cornelia seemed like a real person with real emotions. She had flaws in her voice and her persona, and the staging was simple yet effective. She was a songwriter on the actual song, and it really felt personal to her. It didn't feel like a result earned by production values and money thrown at it. It actually felt like a sincere effort to create a real emotion. Sweden almost never does that. Melfest is all business. Cornelia proved that it doesn't have to be.
I completely agree with you on the budget aspect. I think Poland's entry had a lot of money behind it, but the song itself was really boring. I come to Eurovision to see the heart of a country and what they can bring--not just how much money they can throw at a music video.
I agree, I’m Swedish but I haven’t cared about Mello since I was a kid because it just feels like a boring soulless pop machine. I only watched ESC last year hoping Finland would win.
Nova made a great point about the English lyrics in international songs. Listen, it's not wrong, and I might be alone here, but I would really like to hear these entrants sing in their own language and read the captions, I bet using their mother tongue and not having to rhyme in English would make for much more emotional and lyrically valid songs. That being said, this song is...(raspberry). Not my vibe, but Sweden is PERFECTION!!!
To me this just feels like Sweden going back to its default (AKA 2013-2019) where they just send a handsome guy (or two) with a well produced pop song and high budget slick staging. Of course it can work (Måns) but to me this feels more like Benjamin Ingrosso or Robin Bengtsson, top 10 but that’s all. P.S. I think the fact that this worked so well in the 2010’s and didn’t with Tusse in 2021 is not a coincidence. I hope Sweden gets out of their comfort zone next year when they aren’t hosting.
You want Sweden to send a ugly guy sing a basic pop song then? It's not the swedes fault entirly, blame the song writers, if it had been written better then it would have been no problems with the slick performace, plenty of other countries do slick basic pop aswell but Sweden is just advanced in staging and if only the lyrics were good less people would dislike it, sure being tired of scandinavian pop and english language in ESC is one thing but that is a problem many countries have and not just Sweden alone. Biggest problem with Sweden in ESC is that it get so much attention all the time.
Agree with Nova. This feels like a song that was written at 3 minutes 30 and they had to decide to cut the build at the start or cut the last chorus and they've probably chosen the wrong way round. I'm sure there's an extended mix of this floating around. Or a Swedish House Mafia remix as it's giving me that too
Really wish this song didn't stay within the same four chords for the entirety of the duration of the song. I'm cheering them on regardless, knowing they probably won't place within top 15 without the donator status, (they are Norwegian aswell, so I was shocked to see them qualify for Sweden) Also, if Sweden were to give that kind of staging to any other song, I think everybody would be having a very different discussion.
I tend to focus more on lyrics than most of the fandom, so yeah there's no way I can place this super high. Excellent production, staging and performance, but the lyrics have me keeping this in the middle of my rankings in such a strong year.
For me it's clear that I live in a country without taste, I'm moving to Norway in May. No, but I'm tired with melfest in general, we send the most generic crap and get rewarded for it, which means that we will never try to change either. I'm just waiting for the flop era so SVT gets a bit humbled.
There were at least 3 melodifrstivalen entries I ordered over this song this year. Call me basic but I loved "give my heart a break" and "effortless" so much more than this. Still, gives other countries a chance I guess.
This has a such a great build up then it doesn’t go anywhere and it ends. The snare is mixed too low and doesn’t have the “thwack” that would make this a bop. With that said, I do like this song. I just wanted more.
If this came from another country people would be all over it but because its from Sweden people have so high expectations that it does not live up to it
Haha cheers from Sweden! 🎉 I love your videos! ❤ I have a parody idea for you that might be fun! 😂 Tv show "A Place in the Sun": *A couple, wife and husband, with a very low budget are looking for a house in Spain or something *The host interrupts whenever the wife speaks, also making it seem like she is hitting on her husband in a weird way, even though he clearly isn't her type. * The houses shown are waaay over their budget. The host is calling them poor and make very bad jokes about them * The couple complains about everything about the houses. But their critique is mostly focused on the furniture and stuff that isn't even included, or just generally dumb complaints. "I don't like this room because the curtains are too dark and it's too windy outside". Or "this 3 bedroom house is too small for us, our friends might visit once a year so we need at least 6 bedrooms" * They make an offer at the end for a house, a very poor offer, even though the seller has went down in price by a lot of money. You can probably make this funnier with your magic! 😂 Haha
I'm Swedish and I so agree with you on the soullessness of Melodifestivalen for the past few years, especially this year. There were some more interesting acts that unfortunately didn't make it. I just want us swedes to choose something less predictable and formulaic moving forward! Love you girls!
I'm Swedish, I was rooting for Cazzi Opeia. I knew this one was going to win though. I don't think we really had anything this year where I felt "Yes, this will perform really well in the ESC". I think it's fine if Sweden does not win the ESC every goddang year, and it would be good if Swedish songwriters and producers could stop being in several entries in every ESC finale. It erases a bit of cultural diversity, and there's also been far fewer trainwreck entries making it into the finale this past decade I feel. Maybe I'm a terrible person, but ESC is not as fun without someone absolutely bombing or just confidently performing something REALLY bad or cringy. Lately we only get the finer notes of cringe. I want the stuff that's brewed in the backyard. That's right. I'm a Jedward apologist.
swedish songwriters have their grubby little hands in a lot of other countries songs too and for a very long time. I feel like it's been a meme since I was a kid that the same three writers just run from table to table in the green room bc they're always part of the writing. like it's expected that G:son will be a writer for multiple songs, that's just how it is. Also there was some talk bc they're norwegian but honestly who cares. I was personally rooting for cassie and the pans labyrinth kex but we can't all have what we want. This song is a deceivingly menacing ear worm though, it sticks like gum on a shoe. I will say that this song would not have worked the same in Swedish, it just doesn't sound the same and would've been more cringe than anything else.
their entry last year, air, had a similar issue with the ending of the song being unsatisfying. i think their goal is just to ramp up the intensity the entire time to keep the audiences attention which leaves the song feeling unfinished.
Okay... so firstly, Marcus and Martinus are lovely - much suave, much handsome, all that - and I agree that the styling is quite agreeable. I have to ask... am I the only one who is curious what the thought process was about their hair? It just feels so... late 90s/early 00s American Glamor Shots or something. Is it just me? It can be just me; just trying to level set...
I think it's adorable that, just like there's double Spanish representation in this year's contest with Nebulossa representing Spain and Megara representing San Marino because Megara is Spanish, so too is there double Norwegian representation with Gåte representing Norway and Marcus & Martinus representing Sweden because M&M are Norwegian.
First of all, the song is not about a girl.....it's about a drug! Just listen to the lyrics again.... And secondly, Sweden ARE the best when it comes to music production ....it's just not a debate anymore!
“Maybe if it wasn’t in English” is a valid critique. I enjoyed the shit out of the song 99 Luftbalons until I heard the English version and it turned out to be WW3 starting because of a balloon. That’s also why I never bothered to learn the English version of Gangnam Style
@@clawtooth35 you’re just proving my point. When first listened to in its original language (which barely anyone but Germans spoke) it just sounds like a fun 80s dance bop. But when you find out what the song is actually about you don’t exactly feel like dancing along to it anymore.
Do you give much credence to the idea that the host country sometimes throws their submission because they don't *want* to win twice in a row? To me, this reads as "we want a decent spectacle without having to cough up for hosting 2 years in a row"
Technically we did select several songs in Swedish in the early 2000s, but every single one of them was translated for ESC. I'm pretty sure Carola translating "Evighet" into "Invincible" and basically turning it into a whole different song was the last straw for a lot of ppl, so for someone to win with a Swedish song they'd need to be extremely clear about the fact they have 0 intention of translating it if they won (Medina kept stating they wanted to bring Swedish back and ppl backed them as a result). I'd love for us to send sth in Swedish, but unfortunately, a lot of entries in Swedish have extremely naff lyrics. Not saying the English ones are any better, but weak and cringe lyrics hit much harder in your first language than in your second language 😅
I was waiting for you to roast us, y'all are too nice! Since we would go straight to the finale I didn't care much for what we sent, though I would've liked to have sent something more fun 😅
I was hoping for Medina, their song was a banger and unlike ANYTHING we've ever sent. Was completely unsurprised by M&M winning though. Or Björnzone. We would easily have scored a second win if we sent Björnzone. (yes, it's a joke entry, but it's a good joke :D )
They have had a music career in Sweden since they were kids with lots of fans, and they both work and live in Sweden now. Would you feel the same if we had an immigrant from say, Africa or the Middle East, representing us? I'm suspecting you wouldn't...
Everything but the song is amazing. Such an average song, Air was much much better. They were by far the bookies favourite since the artists for melofest were initially announced. There was no need for the competition at all. It was obvious it would win without even seeming or hearing the song. Don’t think it’ll finish as bad a Tusse did but I don’t think it’ll finish too 10, which is a bit of a fail for Sweden
The main musical theme is total copy of Faithless - Salva mea. They have no shame. Btw. This staging is not possible in this years eurovision. (look at stage, it has no option for these led walls)
@@scorpioninpink They will change the whole stage? Have you seen the plans for the stage? They need those led walls for this mediocre plagiarised forgettable song to work, they don't have them. Get real.
@@Novympia There is no staging that can save this overproduced lame generic cringe twins (not even close hot enough to be 'The Edward' with Flathead hairstyle from Dick Tracy comics) singing 'she's unforgettable'...yuck 🤢) faithless plagiarism. 15th place would be a success for them with this song.
@@tomislavm8789 right but that's not the conversation we were having was it. You were doubting their ability to bring this staging to the venue in Malmö and I'm saying I wouldn't rule it out.
As a Swede i m a bit bored with Melodifestivalen and i agree with you that it's very bland and lack charisma and uniqueness, i want something to grasp on to and this year didn't give me any of that...
I don’t disagree with your criticism but come one are we really going to pretend that other countries serve deeply meaningful lyrics and soulful performances? No, their amateurish presentation gets confused with authenticity and lyrically, they’re just as bad (although, of course, if the act doesn’t sing in English no one will know how basic the song is). Typical anti-Sweden ESC-fandom pressedness. I don’t even like the song but I hope it does really well just to annoy the likes of you haters.
i dont care for this song at all, it does nothin for me at all, its the most boring entry for me, i was rooting for Smash into Pieces, im really disappointed, nothin against em but this song is just a full on skip ffor me
I'm sorry, but why are you so negative? (one of you at least) They have put in a loooot of work in this and are great singers. Yes the lyrics are not WOW, but it's there so we can remember and easily sing along, which sort of is the point right? You should listen to them on masked singer (wicked game) and you'll see how great singers they actually are.
All we can do is react to what's in front of us. Neither of us deny the talent M&M have or how much work they've put into this. We still stand by the criticism we gave.

Tusse does not fit into the pattern of handsome slick pop boys though.
I'm cheering them on regardless, knowing they probably won't place within top 15 without the donator status, (they are Norwegian aswell, so I was shocked to see them qualify for Sweden)
Also, if Sweden were to give that kind of staging to any other song, I think everybody would be having a very different discussion.
I tend to focus more on lyrics than most of the fandom, so yeah there's no way I can place this super high. Excellent production, staging and performance, but the lyrics have me keeping this in the middle of my rankings in such a strong year.
haha, I love the two of you! "If you really wanted to scare me you would have said: "I'm gonna smell you like an animal"" oh San Marino... hahaha!
For next years Melodifestivalen, all the songs for the heats will be released before it’s heat happens.
Cazzi opeia was my fav too
@@Bat_Fiend. It was just so joyful and catchy. Cannot get it out of my head tbh lol
Effortless was so cvnty I loved it - it's such a shame she was ill for the final 😭
This has a such a great build up then it doesn’t go anywhere and it ends. The snare is mixed too low and doesn’t have the “thwack” that would make this a bop. With that said, I do like this song. I just wanted more.
If this came from another country people would be all over it but because its from Sweden people have so high expectations that it does not live up to it
Visually very cool. "Do they time share (the same girl)" cracked me up 😂
Pretty, hmm, the song its self? Ummm it's ok.
Haha cheers from Sweden! 🎉
I love your videos! ❤
I have a parody idea for you that might be fun! 😂
Tv show "A Place in the Sun":
*A couple, wife and husband, with a very low budget are looking for a house in Spain or something
*The host interrupts whenever the wife speaks, also making it seem like she is hitting on her husband in a weird way, even though he clearly isn't her type.
* The houses shown are waaay over their budget. The host is calling them poor and make very bad jokes about them
* The couple complains about everything about the houses. But their critique is mostly focused on the furniture and stuff that isn't even included, or just generally dumb complaints.
"I don't like this room because the curtains are too dark and it's too windy outside".
Or
"this 3 bedroom house is too small for us, our friends might visit once a year so we need at least 6 bedrooms"
* They make an offer at the end for a house, a very poor offer, even though the seller has went down in price by a lot of money.
Still traumatised over Scarlet, they should have at least made the final.
@@upfrontbear74 Agree 1000%!
Loreen was not souless
@@Dds123-l3z You’re right, but she had very little competition!

LOOOOL loved this review !!!! And Olympia you will love Mustii live, you'll see 😜😜😜😂😂😂
Nailed that introduction🥰
I heard my name being said. Completely forgot I signed up to Eurovision
12:25 stealing shoes is pretty memorable though
New to Eurovision, 2023 was my first year. But wasn't M&M runner up last year to Loreen in the Swedish Song Festival?
Yes, they literally said this in the video...
@@Mycenaea I commented before watching...
I am really excited for the Greece review because you two will either love it or hate it.
EDIT: Ohh Cyprus isn't qualifying with that vocals.
their entry last year, air, had a similar issue with the ending of the song being unsatisfying. i think their goal is just to ramp up the intensity the entire time to keep the audiences attention which leaves the song feeling unfinished.
Is song about dp or molly at rave?❤
Ooh, this is quite a skimpy top for boy Nova! Lookin’ hawt
Okay... so firstly, Marcus and Martinus are lovely - much suave, much handsome, all that - and I agree that the styling is quite agreeable. I have to ask... am I the only one who is curious what the thought process was about their hair? It just feels so... late 90s/early 00s American Glamor Shots or something. Is it just me? It can be just me; just trying to level set...
It's what a lot of the youngsters have nowadays 😅👵🏻
Stop procrastinating and react to Marina Satti - Zari, because i can't click on your chanel 10 times per day to see if you uploaded it or not...!
It's been recorded but we won't have it ready until next week sometime.
I am a fan of Dotter, so I don't have much to say this year (add awkward moment seal meme here).
I wanted Jacqueline to win 😭
First of all, the song is not about a girl.....it's about a drug!
Just listen to the lyrics again....
And secondly, Sweden ARE the best when it comes to music production ....it's just not a debate anymore!
“Maybe if it wasn’t in English” is a valid critique. I enjoyed the shit out of the song 99 Luftbalons until I heard the English version and it turned out to be WW3 starting because of a balloon. That’s also why I never bothered to learn the English version of Gangnam Style
I take this criticism of 99 Luftbalons to be incredibly harsh -- it's a perfect encapsulation of cold war tensions.
@@clawtooth35 you’re just proving my point. When first listened to in its original language (which barely anyone but Germans spoke) it just sounds like a fun 80s dance bop. But when you find out what the song is actually about you don’t exactly feel like dancing along to it anymore.
@@mattymarjolet5685 I think it can be an 80s dance bop that ALSO has an important message
Do you give much credence to the idea that the host country sometimes throws their submission because they don't *want* to win twice in a row? To me, this reads as "we want a decent spectacle without having to cough up for hosting 2 years in a row"
Oh absolutely and I think you could say that perhaps this is an example of that 💕
Would you do Irelands history in the Eurovision for the last 20years .
I would love them to do this with every country lol, but I'll happily settle for just a select few 😂😂😂
@@daysleeper4792 Ireland
Sweden
France and maybe like
Italy would be good
As a Swede I must admit that it sucks. I would be VERYYYY surprised if we reach top 5.
Swedish is such a lovely language I wish they’d send a song sung in Swedish!! 🎵
You guys should do an escape room again that was so funny
I was waiting for you to roast us, y'all are too nice! Since we would go straight to the finale I didn't care much for what we sent, though I would've liked to have sent something more fun 😅
This makes me miss Air
It needs a revamp!
Is it only me thinking it is a bit weird to send two Norwegians as the Swedish entry? 🤔
Plenty of acts represent countries they share no heritage with. It isn't unusual 💕
@@NovympiaAnd Norwegians and Swedes DO share a lot of heritage, so it's actually even less strange 😂😂😂
Will you react to Iceland?
Why make them suffer
Not this year
@@Novympia Fair play, it's not the best!
The main musical theme is total copy of Faithless - Salva mea. They have no shame.
Btw. This staging is not possible in this years eurovision. (look at stage, it has no option for these led walls)
They are hosting it this year, they can modify it.
@@scorpioninpink
They will change the whole stage? Have you seen the plans for the stage? They need those led walls for this mediocre plagiarised forgettable song to work, they don't have them. Get real.
I would never underestimate Sweden's staging abilities and problem solving skills!
@@Novympia
There is no staging that can save this overproduced lame generic cringe twins (not even close hot enough to be 'The Edward' with Flathead hairstyle from Dick Tracy comics) singing 'she's unforgettable'...yuck 🤢) faithless plagiarism.
15th place would be a success for them with this song.
@@tomislavm8789 right but that's not the conversation we were having was it. You were doubting their ability to bring this staging to the venue in Malmö and I'm saying I wouldn't rule it out.
As a Swede i m a bit bored with Melodifestivalen and i agree with you that it's very bland and lack charisma and uniqueness, i want something to grasp on to and this year didn't give me any of that...

weird that this is your criticism when for two years running sweden has been your favourite...

You're both very kind. It's boys n lights and I am so, so bored 😅 3rd last on my scoreboard.

Have you watched our UK reaction? 😂
I don’t care for the song at all. Elecktra should have won 😂 #bannemaj #unnadaj
I can see Sweden getting 0 points both because of crybabies still salty from last year and because this song is just horrible 😭
Straight rip-off of 'Salva Mea' by Faithless
I don’t disagree with your criticism but come one are we really going to pretend that other countries serve deeply meaningful lyrics and soulful performances? No, their amateurish presentation gets confused with authenticity and lyrically, they’re just as bad (although, of course, if the act doesn’t sing in English no one will know how basic the song is). Typical anti-Sweden ESC-fandom pressedness. I don’t even like the song but I hope it does really well just to annoy the likes of you haters.
You clearly haven't seen many of our other reviews.
Dotter was not good at all this year, she was like Jujube on Queen of the Universe, wrong song ;)
12:11 ok michael jackson impression
i dont care for this song at all, it does nothin for me at all, its the most boring entry for me, i was rooting for Smash into Pieces, im really disappointed, nothin against em but this song is just a full on skip ffor me
weirdos
DOTTER WAS ROBBED JUSTICE FOR DOTTER, coming last is such an insult
I'm sorry, but why are you so negative? (one of you at least) They have put in a loooot of work in this and are great singers. Yes the lyrics are not WOW, but it's there so we can remember and easily sing along, which sort of is the point right? You should listen to them on masked singer (wicked game) and you'll see how great singers they actually are.
All we can do is react to what's in front of us. Neither of us deny the talent M&M have or how much work they've put into this. We still stand by the criticism we gave.
This song is very forgettable. Boring beat, boring lyrics. The staging is cool, but a light show does not save this song.
Haters gonna hate...
Jämfört med folkmusik som låter som folk plågar katter och föder på scenen är detta i alla fall medryckande ❤

there is a story about this song, time for google guys 😂 are you judging Sweden harder because of their success? our how are you thinking😅 and you can’t get it in Swedish they are from Norway. and you sound extremely bitter and not in the league sorry 😂😂😂 x from Sweden
Hur menar du att de låter bittra? Har svårt att se det för egen del...
Learn that just because somebody doesn't agree with you it doesn't make them "bitter."
You must be new. That's not bitterness lol. But your comment certainly comes off that way haha.
Btw they give critical feedback on each song. You should see what they even said about their own country's song. I think generally what they say is fair and also their own opinion.
The story is irrelevant when you have to google it, that won't help during the final. The lyrics ARE shit. Everything else is great!
