Marvin never got over her death. He delved deep into a depression that would include intermittent drug use. Something he never totally kicked. Damn shame...the world was never the same without them....still isn't
Tammi Terrell was a true bright star. She was in college, studying pre-Med before her big moment. She didn't have enough time, yet still made a big name for herself in 2-3 years.
She was a huge star who left us far too early!!! When Marvin and Tammy sang, it was an obvious Love....Huge talent. Won't ever forget them. Still miss the fact that they will not have more songs together....they were meant to be. RIP❤
The abuse Tammi suffered at the hands of several malefactors didn't help but she endured horrible headaches for most of her life before being diagnosed with a brain tumor.
I did not know much of her before today and after I learned about her bring molested that badly, (still coming back strong from it though), I can’t help wondering about Marvin and “Sexual healing”. 🤔
I have no doubt that had she lived, her career would have eclipsed even that of Diana Ross. No question. Gaye was said to be in awe of her musical capabilities, which surprised her time & again. The chemistry they always seemed to have is not just clear on film but is vibrant & vivid. Just check out photos of them together. Nothing manufactured there whatsoever. Exactly the stable musical partnership she needed after some of the other men in her earlier life, from just 17 years of age. The Carson clip is new to me so thanks for that. Long may their voices grace our ears x
Out of Mary Wells, Kim Weston, and Diana Ross the magic was with Tammi. You can see the love for each other in their eyes though there was no hanky panky going on for they loved their mates but mutual respect and playfulness with the two. I’ve never seen Marvin smile and have fun like these clips with Tammi ever again. I hope you two are singing in the heavens.
Carson show was aired September 14, 1967. About a month later, Tammi & Marvin played a homecoming show at the then all-male Hampden Sydney College in southern VA. My sister was at all-girl Longwood College nearby, and they provided the cheerleaders for Hampden Sydney. I was 11 when we went to see her cheer at that homecoming game. I didn't know at the time that later that night, Tammi would famously faint on stage at the show, and it was shortly after that she was diagnosed. Tammi was so beautiful, RIP
Man both of them had such terrible sad ending!😢Tammi taken wayyy too soon and so young! Marvin life cut short by his own father! Both definitely are missed! May god rest both of their souls wherever they are!🙏💐♥️😔

The best duet partners ever!! I love when Tammi says “ha” aint no mountain high enough. She was so beautiful and adorable and her stage presents was perfect ! I love them both
Motowns two tragic figures ....... Late and greats Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell what both could have achieved if lived on what great chemistry they had together Tammi could have been the brightest star of course classic Ashford & Simpson classic ..... Marvin & Tammi gone but not forgotten 👃➕ ......
I just remember getting in my 1965 impala ss and cruising at night listening to them and I still listen to the two of them. And Marvin Gaye was the king of soul
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" we're two favorite songs of being a 1960s teenager. I did not know Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell were on the Johnny Carson show. I did not know for the longest Tammi Terrell died of a brain tumor very young (think age 24). It was said Marvin Gaye could not record or perform on stage two years after her death, which was understandable. It is still very sad about her death. Those two recordings still give me the same feeling though (other recordings too, shows the singing voices they had). *IN MEMORY AND REST IN PEACE MARVIN GAYE AND TAMMI TERRELL*
God knew they we're going to have unhappy times. God allowed them two to come together and they were very very happy. Very very joyful. You can see it on the video. I am so glad they were able to experience Joy. That was the most happiest they had ever been. May they both rest in peace. ❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜
to think there really was a moment in time where johnny carson introduced marvin gaye and tammi terrell and there they all were, doing their jobs, none of them really understanding how legendary they would be and how this yrs later captured on film would seem like a glimpse into a mythical world....
This is great music! I can only imagine the feeling everybody got listening to these two back in those days when their songs were playing. Loved their chemistry together and their vocals. So sad she left this world early...
@@Iknowyoumadnow that's so dirty.... they were best of friends, and marvin never went after any of the other girls he had a duet with during this time.
Tammi was my first crush as a young man in high school back in the 60's. Oddly, to this day when I hear her sing or see that beautiful smile I flash back to my youth.
Thanks for the Carson clip. I've only seen a bad low res version of it in the past. It's nice that they seemed to be performing live rather than lip syncing too. I wonder if this is Marvin's only Carson appearance?
You're welcome. I'm pretty sure this is Marvin's only time on the Tonight Show. Details of the Marvin clips I've found so far are at www.lightscamerabackbeat.com/search.php?artist=marvin%20gaye
The only two People were invited to Tammi Terrell's funeral from motown was stevie wonder and marvin gaye and Marvin Gaye did an Eulogy at her funeral and you're all i need to get by was playing and he broke down crying.
They still singing together in heaven. She is a beautiful black queen

Tammi Terrell was a true bright star. She was in college, studying pre-Med before her big moment. She didn't have enough time, yet still made a big name for herself in 2-3 years.
I've seen this classic footage tons of times ,and it still bring a smile each time.

James Brown killed her!
@@lamontbradford4630 For real if it's true what a horrible thing to do I heard he was abusive. What a beautiful talented woman she was. R.I.P. TAMMI

They were a match made in heaven. I think Marvin really loved Tammi. She was abused some much. May they both rest in paradise
They say they were like brother and sister, but who knows? Her death made him stop singing for a long time! I so very much loved them.❤❤

Never ever. They say never say never. With the music I can't understand that is playing today. NEVER

What a talent she was and such a tragic life, suffered abuse from both James Brown and David Ruffin. She deserved so much better

Motown will always live in my heart. There's no better music in the world than people.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, but at the same time, the amount of drugs between all them stars is mind boggling.
She's entered in a cemetery around my way when the weather gets nice I will go and pay her a visit and play some of her songs
