I was born & raised in Detroit, Michigan. When I was 13 years of age, after hearing Marvin Gaye's music I had to meet him! (I had every album he ever made!) I did not know what a “Concert” was, but I snuck out the house, willing to bear the consequences of "getting in trouble" with my very strict Mother. I went to Cobo Hall, and somehow made it to the front row! Marvin Gaye held my hand and sang a part of "Distant Lover" to me. There will never be another Marvin Gaye! My apologies to my Dear Mother, because as a teen I must have played my Distant Lover LP one million times. Peace
Dawn Martin. Wow that’s amazing. Did u just melt when he sang Distant Lover. You were so young. That’s a cool experience just getting to meet him. I wish I could have met him. God bless you sweetie.
That is true Marvin had a chance to. Really be with Tammy but he chose to deal with the situation he was all ready involved with. He chose pride over his Heart. But he found out. Ant nothing. Like the real thing I believe that's why he so hurt
No she isn't, never never could she be forgotten. I know many fans and I will always remember her and her voice...I just think the way she died, snatched away by brain cancer during the time when the word meant sure death to most people, the fear is still attached. They were the closest of friends and all the fans of both were hoping they would end up together because both had such bad luck with partners... but alas😢 But that choir in Heaven is full of beautiful souls with beautiful voices 💕🙌🏽 Peace and love 🥰
@@norabatty1she had either a glioblastoma or ependymoma brain tumor and unfortunately today the prognosis is the same as back then. It’s terminal from the point of diagnosis.
It totally broke my heart when his father killed him 😢 Marvin’s voice was smooth as silk and he sounded great with it without music. Loved myself some him! 🩵🩵
Nikki Jenkins.. Same here, but when Marvin started to sing Ain't Nothing Like The Real, I have to admit I did burst out crying 😢 the tears were coming down my face like a water fall. I thank God that I had a chance to go see 👀Marvin Gaye 🥰 in concert June 9,1983. The Prince 🤴 Of Motown 🎤/ The Prince 🤴Of Soul will always be my Distant ❤️ Lover. Thanks for your time. Listening to Marvin's voice with the knowledge of what happened to his dear and beloved friend is powerful enough to bring a grown man to tears; just saying. Rest in peace Marvin & Tammi. 🙏🏾
Before I clicked I thought “ I bet he’s thinking of Tammy during this performance” and he immediately goes to say it’s for Tammy😢 RIP to both sweet angels.
" I came home from work and my Father was on the chair crying. I asked my Father what was wrong ... He said Marvin Gaye was dead. My favorite... R. I. P. 👑! "
I've always said he's tremendously underrated by the mainstream media. However, Rolling Stone magazine did rate his '71 (LP), "What's Going On," #1 of all time. I still listen to it. Sad it's still relevant 50 years later. What a storyteller he was with a unique voice!
How sweet it was that marvin gaye remembered tammi Terrell it's shows how much he loved her misses her and never forgot about her, marvin gaye really kept her in his heart how sweet that was
The fact that Papa Marvin would pay tributes to Tammi in his concerts anyone would think Tammi was his wife being so powerfully emotive and just adding in adlibs of love and affection in the pockets. Also, he had married Janis who was supposedly meant to be the turnin point for him but that ended round this time n so awkwardly.. & yet good ol Marvin would Always come back to Tammi. He literally is just singing to Her like its just them 2 alone lol.. "Aint nothin like the real thing baby". Damn, if that aint True Soul Love i dont know what is. 🔥🌻☄ #ForHerIThankYou
Now this is class. Not to hate on the performers of today, but they could all stand to learn something from this gentleman. RIP to such a talented, classy, romantic, soulful man. He was a true artist 💜.
If you think of Marvin as just a singer then you do not know him. He could do so many things…. Played so many instruments, invented instruments, and I truly believe he could talk directly to God/in vise versa. What a blessing he was to us all.
I believe that these two very talented singers had a very deep brother/ sister love and respect for eachother . They are in Heaven now probably singing for the angels. May they rest in peace.
Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell are my favorites and the best Ain't Nothing Like Real Thing, and If This World Were Mine.... Ain't No Mountains High Enough. I love to pull out the vinyl's and play them. Still sounds good today. 😊
Marvin Gaye live in Belgium .He put on a great great great show his songs showed how happy he had become ,his tribute to Tammi showed his love for her. There is so much i could say .Marvin dance moves . BELGIUM GAVE HIM HIS LIFE BACK...SO MUCH I WANT TO SAY
The genius that is the Marvelous Marvin Gaye. Never before or since. So missed! He and Smokey are the voices that will never be duplicated ever! This is so beautiful! Then, now and forever Marvin Gaye.
Such a talented , wonderful singer. So sad that he had such turmoil within. God bless Marvin Gay. He is no longer in pain. I think he had a deep brotherly love with Tammi Terrell and she with him. They are together now in Heaven. God bless them both.
Tammi is looking from those clouds and stars, smiling down on her friend/duet-singing partner Marvin, and she's smiling on Him on how far he has gone with his music without her. I know Tammi's spirit is by his side singing along with Marvin. Tammi would've loved this.😃🙌. That's my opinion
Sometimes our childhood traumas keep haunting us and the pain never goes away . Marvin had those . I consider myself to be very grateful and privileged when I met him personally way back while he was in London with his son . He came cross as a beautiful soul, humble, and troubled internally . We all make mistakes in life too, none of us are perfect .
it still gets me this one. the best recorded version and he was happy over there in 1981.. marvin your still are the greatest soul singer in my eyes anyway
Vine a buscar a Marvin Gaye, recomendado por la mismísima Sharon Spiteri de Texas ,es uno de sus referentes y vaya que si me sorprendió lo grande que es este cantante.Exquisito es la palabra exacta.🤜🤛🙏
This song was originally written by Marvin Gaye as a duet for him and Tammi Terrell.....The words say it all...A love letter from Marvin to Tammi....and in the original you hear Tammi reply. Fittingly this version only has Marvin's part. Tammi died tragically from a brain tumour in march 1970 aged 24. In her short life she endured domestic abuse from three men and was regularly beaten up by them sometimes in public and on stage, One of the men was James Brown (I Feel Good- Beating women up) and the other was David Ruffin (lead singer of the drifters) who hit her on the back of the head with a hammer shortly before she collapsed and became hospitalised.I believe Marvin Gaye felt guilty after the death of Tammi and some say he never really recovered turning to drugs and a downward spiral. One of the songs he wrote (What's going on") was in protest of his record company not letting him know the full situation with Tammi and the fact she was snatched away at such a young age and not protected from these bully boys. Later in his concerts Marvin always included three songs he dedicated to Tammi and I believe this is one of them..... Two interesting facts are that Tammi's mother only allowed Marvin to attend Tammi's funeral and banned all of the other members of Motown. Marvin also stated he would never duet with another lady singer after Tammi died and he did indeed keep to his word. I understand Marvin wrote this song for her after she had a private conversation with him and explained her situation....RIP Marvin and Tammi
I fiil if Tammy was still alive he would been OK he loved her his sad live brings tears to my eyes so talented and so handsome rest in peace both of you two job well done always in our hearts

Oh my God! I envy you but so glad you got to experience seeing Marvin. A dream to most of us!
The world is a lonely place without Marvin Gaye’s music, heart and soul
Marvin and Tammi WERE "The Real Thing". Unmatched. I am 72 and I can revel in the past. I will never see it come along again. Masterful performance.
Marvin gaye still had that sad look in his eyes it shows that he never got over losing tammi Terrell she was a real inspiration to him

He never got over her. She was the love of his life. Now they are finally together, in heaven.
Age 58 and still listen and jamming to this in May 24 2022 who's with me or who's playing this classic one?
my 38th Birthday - 5/24 ... I love hearing Marvin
Seems like she was quickly forgotten after she died, only Marvin paid tribute to her how sad for these two 😢
