Just got mine today in China in 2021. Great little walkie talkie, it should become my most frequenly used one among my all 8 radios. It is very small, very light, and has exchangeable atena. But the biggest con of it for me is the battery part, no usb charging, and the chager is almost larger than the machine itself! and althrough it is just a 3.7v battery, they are even using neither a standard usb type-c nor micro USB cable to connect the charger. So I will have to try to modify the battery and add a typce-c to it. Another thing is since it is only 3.7v instead of 7.4v battery, it is not powerful enough to drive the regular hand hold mic-speaker, which makes me unable to install it with a mic-speaker on my son's bicycle , and can only use a bigger one. But overall it is a lovely little thing, you won't regret buying it.
Hi The opto stepping switch became very erratic soon after purchase. Stepping too far or not at all. Found I can charge it with a 5watt/5 volt usb solar panel but it collapses on transmit. Suspect RFI getting into the panel regulator. Worked well between Beaulieu and Isle of Wight repeater.
Do you know if chirp can program the uv3r plus model ? Or just the regular ? I’m having a hard time getting the plus model to read on chirp but I only have the option the select uv3r
Excellent video. I didn't know that Chirp could find repeaters like that. My programming cable arrives tomorrow for my UV-82 and and others I buy, so I'm going to be having fun. 🙂
I'm trying to pair it with the old Motorollas of my co-workers. I found the frequency and I can hear them, but when I transmit, their walkie-talkies are only flashing LED, without receiving my voice. What can i do?
I bought it out of GB around the time you filmed this. It was around 22€. HUGE and stupid "con" the no-channel-name. There is also a BUG in Chirp programming for repeaters, you need to distort the OFFSET to an X/100 value in order for it to work (if the correct offset is 0.60000 you input 0.00600, for 7.60000 put 0.07600, if you need more info on that, just ask here). PROS: The size of this is perfect for EDC. -------- My battery was bad too. So I cut it open, and insert 3 AAA. I haven't tried the working duration of plain 3 AAA batteries yet, because I ordered a battery case to modify for the project, trying to make it run on plain batteries. That was about a week ago. Any day now i'll have the baterry case and complete the mod. We shall soon find out. 73 ... SY3CPY
I agree, having the channel name not showing is quite ridiculous. I would of thought that a firmware upgrade could of sorted this by now. Your battery project sounds interesting. Keep us posted on your progress and test results :)
@@TechMindsOfficial Hey, you remembered! Or never the less, somebody did, I received a notification about this post, just as I am done testing the done radio, after the project. I actually pulled it off. I didn't really know what I was doing. There was a protection board on the battery (inside the case), i didn't uninstall that board. I took the battery out and cut the charging cables (that went from the charging pins, to the battery board), I pulled out the battery, and then installed the AAA battery case, inside the radio's battery case. All that, using only a swiss army knife. Nothing else. To make a long story short (because i did some mistakes, like cutting too much out of the radio battery case, and other mistakes, luckily fixable)... It works. If you put plain cheap AAA, it doesn't even open, but with expensive Energizers, it opens and even transmits in low power (1watt). With old used worn rechargeable batteries it run almost normally. If I could find some quality, new rechargeables, i bet it will run, better than the original.
I’m pretty sure the manual says around 8km but to be honest it depends on a number of factors. Height and surroundings, also if the antenna can be changed to a better antenna .

I wasn't aware of the speaker mic issue. I'll have to try my boom mic headset and headphones.
Got the MKII - a brilliant little radio when you get a decent antenna!

If you're familiar with the First Men in Black movie I called this my Noisy Cricket. Had one several years ago and they are fun.

You’re welcome Paul! It’s a great feature isn’t it! Makes life a lot easier when programming radios. Have fun matey!
Is there any hack for the UV-3R+ that will allow alpha numeric tags?

Sure thing. If I don't come back, and you happen to remember it, hit a thumb up for this comment after some weeks so I see the notification.

Do you know if this update will work on the uv3r mk2
Can you charge it via USB or is that just for data transfer?
How did you find the audio quality? Mine seems like its over-driving and a bit scratchy...
Is there any way to increase the frequency step to a lower number lower than 5.00k this is inhibiting me from reaching certain frequencies
Yes
Thanks for sharing, Big Big help.
You’re welcome 🙏
Can we reduce the output power of a UV3R, to 0.5W?
Is it Kenwood kompatible Cable? I have an Kenwood Cable with RS232. Can I use it or must buy a Cable with USB?
Either could be used
Pretty good overview!
I just got mine it’s so cute
Can you open up the MHz to 520 in the programming software
Tnx clear video
Skoda ze mała moc tego radia 1 .2wata ale jest zgrabne i małe
how much radio coverage .. 5km ?

Merhaba. I am Turkish. Size bir soru soracağım. 1 ve 2 kanalı aynı anda nasıl dinleyebilirim.
Não pode, não tem essa opção, pode ouvir o rádio FM e o VHF ao mesmo tempo.
