It's astonishing the difference between the energy these teams had in periods 1 and 2. When you look at the OT periods it's crazy how tired they all look. What an effort by both sides.

WHAT A GAME!! This was insane, amazing back and forth with so many turn overs. I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of the game. This is playoff hockey just how we like it.

Igor's the best goalie in hockey for sure. He'd of blocked that last shot guaranteed if Malkin didn't deflect it. Penguins have to keep it up with those quick passes and deflections because that's the only way to get it past that wall Igor.

This is what I love about playoff hockey!! No 3-on-3, 5 min. OT, no shootout...just iron-man hockey until a mistake is made!! Can just imagine the exhaustion! Good game both teams! If this keeps up, it's going to be one hell of a series!

It's not bc recaps need to be out fast but rather that they are supposed to be of sertain lenght, so like this game might have had 15min of clips to show but the editor-in-chief/senior editor might have forced some cuts to keep it at current lenght. Steve Dangle talked about it in some video or podcast, it's just stupid but it's not bc rush

Hmmm As much as I was cheering on the Pens, the Rangers should have won this game. The refs got in the way and called a good goal goal tender interference. The Pen pushed the Ranger into his own net and thats a good goal. Bad job by the Refs.

That game shouldn’t have gone to overtime. There was no interference, he was perfectly legal
That's exactly what I said.
Clear interference there, he was running through the blue before he was touched, was barely touched by the D man and did nothing to avoid contact. Swap the teams and tell me you'd be ok with that being a goal.
I'm rooting for the Rangers but he never tried to stop rushing the net and did not attempt to avoid the contact either. Clearly a good disallowed goal.
I'm a pens fan and admittedly that call was very questionable.. but maybe if the rangers wouldn't of given up their lead we wouldn't of been in this situation to begin with? Just a thought 🤷♂️
Call wasn't questionable in the slightest. Bad line through the paint directly to the goalie while making contact. He never even tried to pull away. He pushed through DeSmith. That will be called interference every single time. If that was a pens goal, Rangers fans would be screaming for goalie interference. Which hopefully they would have waived as well.

Ok am I missing a subsection in the rules that says a defender pushing the attacking player into the goalie is goalie interference. I am not a Pens or Rangers fan, just trying to understand the rules a little more.

No, you're absolutely right, it's a missed call. I'm actually a pens fan, but if you watch it in slow motion, the forward barely ever makes contact with the goaltender, it's completely the fault of the defender that the goaltender was pushed out of the net. It actually seems like the forward did everything in his power to not make contact with a goaltender and the defender just ended up getting sucked in, so that absolutely should have counted as a goal and we should have lost this game

No comments about the terrible goalie interference call? Kakko was clearly pushed into DeSmith, and Dumoulin was the one who took DeSmith out of the play entirely. Definitely felt like a one-sided game by the refs. Glad the fans heckled them. Hopefully Chris Lee isn’t officiating any more of the Rangers/Penguins games, otherwise it’ll be a very uphill battle for the Rangers.

Without Dumoulin there he still would have ran in to DeSmith. Thats why the interference was called. Yeah, like two missed calls on kakko for tripping. One early in the third and one late, but yeah, all so one sided. High hit on Rakell as well. Yeah, the refs only make bad calls against the Rangers and are the sole reason they lost. What a joke.

Watch the replays, Dumoulin hits Kakko in the numbers, causing the contact with DeSmith, which wasn’t much anyways, the main thing taking DeSmith out of the play is Dumoulin himself crashing into him.
You can’t say, “Ah the contact didn’t matter, Kakko would’ve ran into DeSmith even if he hadn’t been shoved.” Wtf, really? It’s clear to see Dumoulin checks Kakko towards the net, and even so he still only skims DeSmith. Most of the contact is Dumoulin. To overturn a goal call the play has to be cut and dry, no grey areas. The contact Dumoulin puts on Kakko, pushing him towards the goalie, would constitute as a grey area.

Kakko’s line was clearly set to cross in front of the top of the crease (edges set, hips lowered). You can see Kakko’s weight gets pushed forward and his back leg gets swung into the crease as a direct result of Dumoulin’s contact.
I get that Dumoulin doesn’t do anything so obvious as trying to land a hit in Kakko, but he got beat to the net and just plowed right through Kakko on a line headed directly into his own net.
This angle makes it pretty clear to me.

Credit to both teams played until triple overtime. I noticed that the players looked really tired during the overtime periods. I remember watching the blue jackets vs lightning played to the fifth overtime (unfortunately I missed out the fifth overtime period because I had to go to bed). Let's hope for some more epic marathons.
