Homemade dog food recipe by The Farmer's Dog
Ingredients
2230g (5 lbs) 90% lean ground beef
580g (4 1/2 cups) sweet potato, shredded or finely diced
580g (4 1/2 cups) carrots, shredded or cut into 1/4 inch dice
350g (fresh 11 1/2 cups; frozen 2 cups) spinach, chopped
270g (6 large) eggs (yolk and white)
2 packets The Farmer’s Dog DIY Nutrient Mix
28g (6 teaspoons) sunflower oil
2g (1/2 teaspoon) salmon oil
Note: Fresh or frozen vegetables may be used in these recipes. For best results, weigh by grams and use food safe thermometer.
Step 1
Place pot/skillet/dutch oven over medium to medium-high heat on the stovetop. Pour in the sunflower oil and spread evenly to coat the bottom.
Step 2
Add the ground beef. Break apart and stir until the meat is no longer pink and is broken into small pieces.
Step 3
Add the sweet potato and carrots. Cook until the vegetables are soft and easily break apart or are tender when pierced with a fork.
Note: Be sure to check that all ingredients are soft and easily broken in order to avoid choking hazards. Large chunks may require additional cooking time.
Step 4
Add the spinach, cook until wilted, and stir to evenly distribute throughout the mixture.
Step 5
Add the eggs and salmon oil to the pot. Break the yolks and stir to evenly distribute. Cook until the eggs are firm and no longer runny. If using a food-safe thermometer, check the temperature in several places to verify that a food-safe temperature of 165°F is reached throughout. Otherwise, ensure all meat and eggs are cooked thoroughly.
Note: In order to maintain safe, ready-to-eat meals it is important that all food reaches the USDA guidelines for safety.
Step 6
Remove the pot from the heat and sprinkle the 2 packets of The Farmer’s Dog DIY Nutrient Mix evenly across the surface. Stir to evenly distribute throughout the food until you can no longer see the nutrient mix.

Happy Wednesday friends! I hope everybody had an amazing Easter 💗
Hi, what would you reccommend other than the Farmers Dog because I live in NZ and it does not ship here!
You can use an instant pot on slow cooker
Can't find the link to recipe!!!!
Do you know if you can can this dog food? I know the food itself is fine to can however I'm not sure if the nutrient mix will be no good after canning it
I’ve been Farmer’s Dog best customer for almost 2 yrs. I love it for my 2 babies. My babies are age 16 and 13 years old. It has added so much pep in them since they’ve been eating it. I’ve recently decided to make their food myself. When I found your channel I was able to get some of your supplement tips, but I admit I was nervous about making sure they were getting enough nutrients. However Lexxxxxxxxy, this is right up my ally! I can prepare their meals on my own with the support of Farmer’s Dog! This is soooo perfect for me and my babies! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You’re so welcome!! So glad there is now just one supplement that can be added 🙌🏾🙌🏾 it can get very tricky when you have tons of different things to add in. So glad you found this helpful! Thanks for watching 💗
So, I don't even have a dog - but when I tell you this was sooo informative, I mean it! I know what to do if the kid finally decides he wants a puppy now. This was, hands down, one of the best representations of a brand I've seen on UA-cam. An awesome collab because you obviously believe in this product and were able to sell it to a person who has a hamster 🐹
Aww so glad you found this video informative 🤗🤗 that is my goal when creating content 💖 yes, I really do believe in the product 🙌🏾 thank you so much for your support and trusting my opinion!
@@LoveLexyNicole You are more than welcome and thank you so much for the reply! ❤
I just randomly found her channel in my recommendation now i'm obsessed with her videos she's so freaking talented.♥️🍡💗💕🍨🎂🥰💖🍧🍭💘🥳🎡💖🎉✨🎂💞🎠🎠🧁🥰♥️🫂😍🍓❤️😍🤭💗🎉
Thanks for being here 💗
I totally agree with you. One of my favorite UA-camr.
Love this I made homemade dog food for our 4 little rescue furbabies. I’m a retired Chef and just started my own channel.
Hey Lexy 👋🏻 I love getting to see your beautiful fur babies 💜💜
Hey Allison! Thank you 🥰💗
You’re babies are super cute and beautiful❤️❤️❤️
I can’t wait to try this, thanks for sharing
Of course 🤗 thanks for watching!
Hey Lexi, thank you for another doggie food video. Great job as always.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 💗💗
I love you so much. Thank you so much for being honest and love you pets like I do and thank you so much for sharing all the homemade dog food recipe.
Yes! All in one supplement to add to our doggie recipes-whew... this is the topping to the balancing act!
Right?!! 😍🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Love this video! You take such good care of your fur babies. 💜 I will have to look into Farmers Pet. My oldest dog Sammy (a Maltipoo) needs to gain weight now and I’m at a loss. 💁🏻♀️Thanks for sharing!
I’ve been using the Just Food for Dogs DIY Kits. It’s great to know Farmers Dog is offering something similar.
Yes!! It’s so helpful to just have one supplement to add 😀 thanks for watching!
Your dogs are the cutest 🥰
Thank you 🥰💕
I love all your dog recipes! I make them for my 3yr F1BB Goldendoodle too!
Aww yay! Your dog is so beautiful 😍 Blissey is an F1BB too!
@@LoveLexyNicole Aww so cute!!
Can you please make another homemade dog food video? My dog enjoys them so much!
Hey 👋 Lexy Great Fur Mommy Bently looks Camara shy 😊💃💃💃
Thank you!! Haha he is and usually avoids camera time but he was bribed with tons of treats 😉😉
It would be helpful if you would tell us how much you spend in a month on making the food at home?
I have been following your channel for years and happy to say. You have help me introduce homemade dog food to my puppy brenna who has fell in love. But what about the other veggies you use to put in there like the spinach and the pumpkin?
So glad you posted a video I so thought yesterday was Wednesday 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wondering well she post every Wednesday. I so need a vacation 🤣🤣🤣🤣 as always a Great Video 🥰😍🤩
Haha! My days have been all messed up too this week! Thanks for watching 💗💗
Dang Lexy, you sold me on 2 videos in a row! First the Owyn chocolate shakes which make breakfast so easy and I really like the taste, not like the typical dairy protein! I'm cutting calories and also have IBD so its perfect that it's non dairy and easy to digest with all the nutrients. I also love this option from the farmers dog, what a clever idea! vitamin mixes and SIMPLE recipes to follow. Yes! Just placed my order.
Aww thanks so much 💗💗 I am so glad to hear you are enjoying the shakes. They really do save so much time and they don’t have that after taste like a lot of pre-made protein drinks. Yes so happy The Farmer’s Dog came out with this option! It makes it so easy to cook for your dog without having to worry about making sure they get the correct amount of nutrients. Thanks so much for being here 💗
This is very great. I’m going to home cooking for my dogs. The higher quality kibble is just as expensive and not quite as good as homemade in my opinion. My dogs are 12 yr old. My Rosie is balking at eating kibble no matter how I doctor it up My supplements won’t be here until the 15th, but they should be ok on it until then. Thanks a bunch Lexy. I really appreciate your channel. Have a lovely day
Another great video. I have a couple of questions. In the first 2 videros you used a pressure cooker. Is this the new way and the ok way to cook on the stove. Also, if I decide to just go with farmer dog food do they add the supplement?
Hi Lexi! Thank you for a new awesome dog recipe. Can sunflower oil be substituted for coconut oil? I love your channel ❤️
Hello! You’re so welcome 💗 yes coconut oil would work great!
Please read question carefully before shooting of a reply.
Lexy was good before being bought off.
Are you still using the farmers dog DIY? Have you ever used the instant pot for their recipes?
This is right on time, I think the Nuvet Labs was making my baby sick and I’m in the market for new supplements
So I stumbled across your homemade dog food videos and I’m wondering how many meals does a recipe like this yield?
Hi Lexy! Thanks for sharing. I just placed my order!! Do you get your salmon oil from Amazon or in store?
Hey! Thanks for watching 💗 I get mine from Amazon! One bottle lasts awhile
amzn.to/3vAPOmt
What Sunflower and Salmon oil do you use?
Hi Lexy so how much is the packet mixed cost for monthly ?
What size is your pressure cooker? I have 2, 47 lb Wheaton Terriers. Want to start cooking for them 🙂
These videos are how I discovered your channel. I have been using your recipes for the past month now and my dog is slowly returning to her old self. She has hypothyroidism and it was starting to affect many areas of her health. She now devours her food (after going weeks without eating hardly at all and many $$ trying to find store bought food she would eat) and has some more pep in her step. So thank you! I've been doing strictly shredded chicken but want to try ground beef next. My question......the beef I have is not very lean. Do you think trying to drain the whole batch of food would work or should I just brown the ground beef separately and add it after the rest has cooked? I feel like a little of the beef grease might be good for her but not obviously the amount that will come from 5lbs of meat.
Can these DIY meals be cooked in instant pot? I’ve seen you used the instant pot before the DIY farmers packs.
This may be a silly question but how do you know how much you should be feeding your dogs? I have 1 @ 65lbs, 1 @ 60lbs and 1 @ 18lbs
I can't find the Farmers Nutrient mix packs please advise.
I'm not able to find the Farmers Nutrient mix packets. Do they still sell them?
Hi Lexi, i have a 5 year old yorkie ( GEORGIA). She has pancreatis are your recipes goood for her? Thank you for your response in addvance.
Hello Kelly! I don’t see why not but I would check with your dog’s veterinarian just to be safe ❤️ thanks for watching!
What kind of sunflower oil ?
Are the vitamin supplements synthetic free?
Can this recipe be made in the instapot?
Do you add tumeric? Saw so many recipes that says it is great.
Just curious- how come you aren’t using the pressure cooker? I was trying to figure out if I wanted to get one or not for dog food 😊
I personally use the pressure cooker because it’s faster. I had tons of people requesting me to make recipes without pressure cooker so that’s why you will see a couple on my channel.
Hi .. from when i can start giving home made food to my 2 month old husky ?
Any age. Your 2 month old husky can start eating homecooked straight away.
How do you get the DIY nutrient mix without having to sign up for their homemade dog food too?
Hey Eli! If you click the link it will take you to the DIY packs. When you sign for that you get free recipe Ideas to make at home.
How often do you have to make the food? With two dogs I imagine at least 3 or 4 times a week? Are the packets expensive?
I usually make food for them twice a month. This batch I made today was a a 4-5 day supply. But usually I would make a few batches of those in a day and freeze extras so I don’t have to make it every week. The packs are actually very affordable compared to what I was paying before for all the individual supplements. Click the link in my bio and put all your information in and it will give you a price. It comes out to about a dollar a day for the supplement.
How do you know how much to feed your dog because it tells me how many calories but I can’t calculate it.
How do you determine how much to feed your pups?
Depends. You have to test and try.
Is this supplement packet suitable for puppies also? Just want to double check because I know they need certain things while developing
When you do the quiz, it will ask how old are dog is. Mine is 5 months and I let me continue so I think it will be fine
Can this be made in the croc pot instead or is there a reason you cooked it up on the stove instead?
Yes it can! Most of dog food recipes are in instant pot. Several viewers asked for me to share other ways to cook homemade dog which is why I shared stove top method. Instant pot will always be my favorite way to cook for my dogs though.
Do you still make your other Homemade Dog Food Recipes?
Yes I do! I love making a variety of recipes for my dogs.
Can this be done in the instant pot?
Yes!!! I usually make in the instant pot but made in a pot because a lot of people told me they don’t have an instant pot. But I’ll still be making more recipes in the instant pot because that is the best way in my opinion.
Can this be made in a instant pot?
She has an instant pot recipe.
How much is it
Where do I find the list of ingredients
Left the recipe in the description box 💖
*Good evening, good people! Do you like European cuisine? Come visit, give us advice on how best to do? Good mood to you!)))*
I'm afraid to ask the price!
It depends on how many dogs but for my two dogs It comes out to be about a dollar a day!
@@LoveLexyNicole It sounds interesting for sure. I'm trying to work out how much we would need, we feed 1/2 homemade and 1/2 dry, so I'm thinking maybe we would not need 2 boxes every 2 weeks, but rather 2 every four weeks. Which would be about $13 a week. Do you still need to add an Omega 3 type oil? Or does this pack cover it all? Right now what I'm using I have to still add the Omega 3.
i totally disagree with bout raw part. Raw stuffs keep more nutrients than cooked food.
