Excellent list! Many of my favorites on it. My favorite 2 player game-and actually my favorite game-is Battle Line. It's similar to Lost Cities (same designer), but it has incredible strategy, and despite its abstract gameplay, actually gives you the feeling of mustering troops to the frontline of a battle.

I have several of the Unmatched sets, and it's just a great game. The ability to mix and match from different sets is a great feature for increased variety.
Just found this channel and loving it. My go to 2 Player game is Dice Throne. Easy to learn and easy to teach. Just got my copy of Dice Throne Adventures/Dice Throne Season 1 ReRolled and it's so much fun, and some of the best artwork in Board gaming today.

I'll be looking into some of these, thanks for the recommendations! My favorite two player game is Cribbage. It's a board game, but technically it can be played with just a deck of cards
Love your list! I’ve tried this game called Lagim - a collectible card game based on the Philippines’s folklore and mythology. The art work of this game set is also impressive.
Oh yeah! Unmatched is so fun! I've played it and some point would like to pick up a copy for myself and my circle of friends!

I absolutely love Star Realms. Also has a decent online version whicch has a puzzle/challenge mode that is fun if you are alone.

Other 2P games I would recommend: The Fox in the Forest (arguably my favorite game), Schotten Totten, Matcha (not a good game, but a game I'm still fond of), Hanamikoji, Royal Visit, Hive, Mandala, Quarto, Jekyll vs. Hyde

Hi. We just bought Unmatched. It is stupidly, ridiculously good. You were absolutely right.
I bought Patchwork for my parents on a whim. They are far from big board game people but they enjoyed it a lot.
I just recently played Star Wars: Rebellion for the first time. It has rules so 4 people can play but it is just basically splitting up duties of who does what. I think that is going to be a great two player game. Can't wait to play it again. It is definitely a much larger game and longer game but it is really good.

What an excellent list! If you're a fan of Lost Cities/Jaipur, really recommend Biblios (2-4, but excellent at 2). Fits right in the same bracket of light, easy, small footprint and completely addictive. :)

Watergate and Fog of Love are two of my go-to 2 player games.
Best 2player game is Dice Masters. Bit like unmatched and a CCG had a dice baby! Awesome
Absolutely top list, brilliant games all. However, not having Memoir 44 on the list is a crime! I know it’s bigger and more complicated than the others but it’s sooooooo good!

Great list. I think “raptor” would have deserved a spot as well. It’s a brilliant, tense and lovely themed game that has some of the most fun decision making of any game. Maybe it’s too close to “unmatched”…

"Like chess but not chess" games. Like chess but asymmetric and always a different game because there are 16 different units but never more then 8 are used in a game. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it.

Didn't make the list, and technically not an only 2-player game, but Mansions of Madness is a great 2-player co-op experience. I think a video on ' top 10 not technically 2-player games, but has a great 2-player experience' could be something.

Imagine being me. A lifelong wrestling mark who also is just now getting into tabletop games. You used to watch WhatCulture, and therefore watched the Blamps, here, fairly regularly. And as the years went on, stuff happened, you’re still aware of ol’ Plumpy kicking around on Parts Funknown… And then you randomly search this video… And he’s here, too. Like… What’re the actual odds??? Lol.
One excellent two player game is inhuman condition, a good roleplaying and hidden role game.

Level 99 have published a few really good games in this category:
Resistor_ - a game about two duelling AIs trying to disable the other one so they can nuke them. It has a really cool set of double-sided cards
Sellswords - a surprisingly thinky game where the players try to control rows and columns in a 5x5 grid they are building, and each tile they lay has special powers that can really mix things up
BattleCon - a head to head fighting game that uses perfect information. Every fighter works differently despite the all essentially having the same core set of moves. It achieves this by having each fighter style a move differently, so one could do heavy punches, another one does rapid ones.
Noir - a game about trying to find a killer before they kill too many people.
+ pixel tactics.
Looking for Battlecon on this list. One of my favorite games. Just elegant as hell -- scratches the same "Ameritrash -- but with a brain" itch that Gloomhaven does
Schotten totten and fox in the forest are also really good, quick 2 player card games

7 Wonders duel is such a good game. I very much agree that it is somehow better than the original.
I love the game Parks. It’s meant for up to 6 players but it is very fun with just two people. Gorgeous artwork depicting the National Parks of the United States, very simple, and very relaxing

I would like to strongly recommend you BattleCON for 2 players: a tactical fighting game, easy to learn and hard to master, 30 minute games, with tons of content in each set and a lot of replayability. I really don't understand why it is not that famous.
Adios calavera could also be a good addition: a really easy race game wih no randomness.

You should try the BattleCon games, they're the board game equivalent of 2D fighting games and they're amazing.
Rivals for catan and its expansion got us through the first round of lockdown

Please try exceed fighting system it's probably my favorite game period and undoubtedly my favorite 2 player game. the teach is a pain and it needs multiple plays to get it down but it is the perfect *chefs kiss* encapsulation of the feeling of playing a 2D fighting game.
This is kind of an unfair entry since it's almost impossible to get now, but Caper (or It's Mine) is a great 2-player game. I think Keymaster Games is doing a Kickstarter to reboot the game into Caper: Europe, so people who missed out will have a shot at an updated version of the game. Seriously, it's great.

Shout out to, for my money, the best two player deckbuilder game I've played, Baseball Highlights: 2045.
Baseball in the future gets much better, being only 6 innings and involves Robots and Cyborgs.

Radlands is a newer one that definitely would make it on this list if it was made today. It's the lane-based card game I was looking for

I've not played Unmatched yet, so I'll give it a crack. Also, if we are still taking a dump on Chess, I'd go for War of the Ring. Because Asymmetrical design is fun.
thats really interesting. I possess all of those games and really like every one but unmatched ^^ I always feel it's just moving to draw cards, fighting, moving to draw cards, fighting with no real dephts. I probably don't get it... ^^
Unmatched is my number 3, with Radlands being number 2 and Summoner Wars being number 1.
My wife and I personally have been enjoying Wingspan and Schotten Totten as our go to games to play when just us.

It is not a game for people new to the hobby and it can be a long game but I love Twilight Struggle. One of you plays the US and the other one plays the USSR and you play out the entire cold war trying to have more global influence than your opponents, getting ahead on the space race and making sure you don't trigger nuclear war. I'm not particularly interested in the Cold War and I still love this game.
How about Botanik? Kinda like Lost Cities, but more abstract and put in a steampunk + floral theme

If you haven't played Arkham horrors it's an amazing game. Should of been in best coop or 2 player games.
