Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle Is one of the best deck builders around, that game shocked me with how good it is. I was expecting a simple cash grab trying to capitalize off the IP. But no man, they put serious time and thought into game design and theme. Love it.

Valley of the Kings and the rest of the deck-deconstruction subgenre(including Flamme Rouge) also deserve a mention. I'd recommend the harry potter deck builder Battle for Hogwarts. Its a really good beginner deck builder as it strips down the game to the core concepts of a deck builder to begin with. But as you play and win you unlock the next game box (comes with 7 in total and represents the 7 books) which has more cards, villains and mechanics so by the 7th game you're fighting off multiple villains while trying to destroy the horcruxes as well as building up a deck of powerful spells and allies using your favourite character from the book (who each have a unique ability)
Bought it for my wife as she loves harry potter and couldn't believe how much fun we've had with it

My favorite deck-builder is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle. It's a co-op game in which you're all put against the expected baddies from the books, and there's various effects that mess with your life total. You then play your turn buying cards, healing your teammates, attacking the baddies. If you ever lose your life points, you are stunned; discard half of your cards and add a death counter to the area you're in, but the next turn you get restored back to full health. Accumulate enough death counters and the baddies win. Oh, and each player assumes a character role, and each one has a unique effect. If you're REALLY into HP, you'll appreciate all of the nuances the makers put into it. So much fun, highly recommend.

Mage Knight is a different kind of beast. 😅
Legendary is very good, but to me it feels like a campaign driven game, lower replayability. I've got the Firefly one, awesome game, horrible art!
Imho i think you should go for Aeons End. Even the base game packs so much game for your money! Endless challenge combinations; different mages x different nemesis x different base cards (nemesis) x different market cards. There's even an expedition version or a legacy version, if that's your thing.

The DC deck building is my favorite and it’s so sad to see a pic of it used but it not making the list. The variations it allows with its expansions. Competitive or co-op, different characters put focus in different strategies, specific 1v1 versions, promos, a Multiverse box that puts everything together. It’s a true shame it wasn’t included. The Cryptozoic engine is just so good.

Tyrant of the underdark is one of my go to game for when i want to introduce people that want to try something a bit more meatier than mainstream game, and even my board game club loved it when i intruduced them to this game. It also have good deck-builder introducing mechanics, like gaining points for banishing cards out of your deck teaching you the concept of deck thinning.
I have some other game that are good bridge game like smash up and king of toky, but tyrant of the underdark is the one i have the most success with to catch new initiates for the non mainstream board game gods. The theme is mature enough and easy to teach, around 80% of the rules are on the last page of the manual.

Your cauldron only explodes when the number of the cherry bombs EXCEEDS 7. If it’s 7, you’re still safe.
Great video though, I love deckbuilders and own Star Realms, Clank, Quacks & Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle. I think the nice thing about them is the sense of progression you get over the course of the game as you get more and more powerful - even if you lose in the end.

Players play as one of the game's heroes, each with different starting hands and abilities and try to defeat three of the supernatural menaces threatening the town of Shadowbrooke, with each threat being more dangerous than the previous one. I love card games and I love rogue-like video games. A while ago I realized that they are basically both applications of the same concept of randomized encounters from a big but nevertheless limited pool of potential outcomes. Deckkbuilders make that even more obvious. I guess Slay the Spire is rather explicit about that, but unfortunately I haven't gotten around to it yet, as in the last while I haven't really been playing video games and before that I was stuck on the absolutely excellent Hades.

Cthulhu the deck building game - It's co -op deck building and your currency for cards is also what you're using to deal damage to the creatures and gods. Rules can be a bit unclear for newcomers but once you get them down it's fun. I liked it more than Legendary Encounters
Ausonia - you use gems to both buy cards and activate abilities on cards you have.

    Personal List
    Domination - classic/simpler/many expansions
Star Realms - Cheap/faster only around 30 mins or less/ some expansions/ only 2 player unless buying more decks
($59.99) For Glory - Seems awesome/ longer times between fights/ alot of build up throughout the whole game.
Undaunted - Military Game/ Unforgiving/ Seems really fun though/ A little simpler, despite many steps/ a little tedious sounding
Legendary Encounters (or other themes) - Looks insanely fun/ seems COMPLECATED/ so many themes, I think that's awesome/ Probably a very long game.
Quacks Of Quedlinberg - Seems fun, I think it isn't the coolest one but I wouldn't mind playing it.

Valley of the Kings and the rest of the deck-deconstruction subgenre(including Flamme Rouge) also deserve a mention. Especially Flaming Pyramids & Abandon All Artichokes, for being Uno-level accessible, and the latter I think is a better gateway deckbuilder than Dominion(it teaches otherwise unintuitive concepts like deck-pruning), probably even among top 10 gateways of the past & next decade
