As old American white guy married to Thai for 20 years I must say the world has gotten American family values very wrong. I grew up in a household with both grandparents and great grandparents and this was pretty common when I was a child in the States. I still take care of my elderly mother who lives with us as well as my Thai parents. Stereotyping is common I guess because the world judges the USA on media bites and not looking at average American home life. Just an old Thai farang view. Cheers! Allen PS I think most of the world shares the same core values "food in the belly clothes on our back roof over our head and hope for a better future for our children"!
Are you from the South? I think the South holds more traditional family values compared to other parts of the US. I grew up in the NE and see a lot of elderlies living on their own and not being able to rely on family. The exception to this would be Italian-Americans who for the most part seem to be very family oriented. There's been a few articles recently published about the rise in family estrangement in the US.
@@d.c.3534 My people are northerners ranging from NJ to OH. Elders living alone is not just a USA crisis there are a great many elders in Thailand living alone and many elders are homeless living on the streets of Bangkok.
