I was proud to call Fleming Brown my friend. He did one hell of a job to keep these old songs and the performers alive and noticed in the folk world. RIP Flem.
Had no idea my late friend Fleming Brown did these recordings of Hobart until now. Wish Flem was still around. He was a classic. I miss him everytime I sing "Davey".
In a three finger bluegrass style, yes. However, Listen to people like Dock Boggs, Hobart Smith, and Roscoe Holcomb. There is some ungodly old time talent there while Earl wasn't even born yet. It's just a different style.
Do you have any other recordings by Hobart? My dad bought an album back in the 60's called "American Folk Songs for Children". One of the songs on that album was called "Soldier, Soldier" by Hobart Smith which I recall liking a lot. Any chance of you posting that recording as well?
