      It slows them down. Never ever lock anything to keep people out permanently, lock it to slow them down so they move on to something easier ;)

    • @pete_lind
      @pete_lind 7 років тому +1

      Picking is still slow when you need to do it outside in not so perfect wether ... do it day time and some one next door may see you , do it in night and you may not see what you are doing .
      That lock on this clip is weak agains snapping and by that not worth much .
      We got our summer cottage burgled few years back and they entered from window when they could not open an 1950s lever lock on front door ... some one wants to get in a lock on a door wont stop them.

      Like Chipmunk2008 said: it's just to slow them down.
      I've seen many people trying to pick a lock, then after a few moments move on.
      It's not about having an unpickable lock, it's about having one that's more secure than your neighbours :3

    Rav Bariach is the original company name for Multilock. They have split branding in the last couple of years. We get the simpler stuff (now made in china) back home and the fancy interactive stuff( made in Israel) go to foreign shores, lke US and EU.

    BTW Bill, in case you're interested. these locks go into doors made out of sheet steel, when you turn the lock it turns a system of metal rods that lock the door at 2-3 contact points on top of the primary latch right under the lock. these are standard entrance doors in Israel, every apartment and house has them.
    I'm dumbfounded by people in the US having wooden doors with unbarred windows right next to them or even worse, glass panels in the door itself! I don't need a gun to protect myself when my walls are concrete and my door's steel.

      @KingOfBanditJing Every time I see American homes flattened by a hurricane I shake my head in disbelief. Seema like homes in America are all wood and plasterboard, it's like living in a home out of matchsticks. With a few tools you can just cut through any wall.
      In Israel homes are built of breeze blocks and reinforced concrete.

    The actuator is the standard actuator used in israel in פלדלת (Pladelet) doors. RavBariach is an Israeli lock company famous for their Mul-T-Lock brand until it got sold to Assa Abloy around 1999.
    The RB-500 is a common lock used in many homes here because of its low price and that it did came standard with a lot of RavBariach Pladelet doors. Currently, most of these doors are sold with locXis and 3LoX locks that have interactive elements and are way harder to pick.

    Between Multilock, Mul-T-Lock and Rav Bariach, I honestly don't know which is which.
    But I think the odd actuator is related to the Pladelet doors common to Israel.

    With most European style locks you line up the locking lug with the body of the lock to slide the lock into the door. How do you install something with a gear shaped locking lug?

    • @counterfit5
      @counterfit5 7 років тому

      Jim Fortune Probably a geared rack

    • @JimFortune
      @JimFortune 7 років тому +1

      I can think of several ways to use it. I'm just wondering how you get the assembly in and out of the door. You can't just move the lug out of the way while you slide the thing in through a keyhole shaped slot.

      The door has a similar lug in it and you just align the two to interact. This is a standard system for all entry doors in Israel which is called (how surprising) the Rav-Bariah door mechanism.
