Your idea of behind the scene interviews is a good one. You might get some ideas from Lucy, from Cruising With Crew videos. She interviewed all sorts of people, but my favorite one was the tour of a lifeboat. Have fun with this new adventure!❤

It’s rare, but they have made a resurgence. It’s stressful when it happens to you because treating your home is expensive and you just have to hope and pray that your treatment has got them all. We brought them home after a weekend trip away. We paid for the spray treatment and heat treatment.
When we come home after our next trip, I’m throwing everything straight in the dryer (heat kills them). Anything that can’t go in the dryer is being inspected outside first before coming in my home again. A bit paranoid? Yes, absolutely!

Our granddaughter experienced bed bugs on her honeymoon on a major cruise line. Woke up first morning covered in bites and subsequent inspection found a major infestation. So for sure the cabin attendant did not check between cruisers. They were moved to another room and the cruise line laundered all their clothes. It worked out but was quite a shock.

First of all, a bit of a superficial comment, but your hair lately has just been 🔥🔥🔥 Second, LOVE the ideas for the channel, and I will be joining! I started watching your channel a few months ago before my 3rd & 4th cruises and I just love your tips! Thank you for all you do ❤

Ilana, I’m very excited about your new channel. I so love your polished, creative and positive approach you bring to the cruise culture. The behind the scenes idea is fantastic. You give truly excellent educational tips. Even with dining I enjoy your videos. One idea that I don’t recall seeing you do is a “live dining review”. Perhaps your modest husband or family don’t want to be included(?), but it is fun to capture the moment in a specialty restaurant, or a different dining venue. That could give your new channel a more personal touch. Keep it up Ilana!

the new channel sounds really interesting. i went on a tour of the kitchen (galley?) on a cruise with a chef once and it was so cool to see behind the scenes. interviews with cruise directors and the entertainers on board would also be fun... just discovered your videos after booking first cruise in a while and learn a lot. i bet youd have insightful questions for the crew interviews

Bed bugs are travelers, yes they can be brought on in luggage, your clothing etc. Chances are if they are there, check your luggage first, especially if you stayed at a hotel before you board the ship.

I just returned from RC's Voyager of the Seas. The power was in a central spot on desk area. It had both US and international outlets. Using a converter, i doubled my outlets. I dont know, undortunately, if it had a surge protection. The main issue i had was that their outlets sre so low and close to the desk surface, some chunky plugs could not fit, the cord didnt have clearance due to way it had to fit in the prongs. Otherwise, for computer, phone and watch charging, it was fine.
I love your videos. Always informative, efficient format, love tge Q&As you include. Review of things I'm already aware of and always something new for us to learn. Thank you!

I know that it’s rare but I do not like to take chances. You can come into contact with bed bugs anywhere and not realize it until it’s too late! When I go to hotels and cruise ships I travel with Bed Bug Natural Travel Spray by Hygea. I put my suitcases in the bathroom and spray couches, fabrics, bed corners, and curtains. Let it settle or dry before you take anything out.

I work in a hospital we have had patients bring them. But to look for them you can’t just pull the sheet back and ho hum scan. You need to pull the seem and really look in between stitches. The good thing is the sheets are bright white. I’m pretty sure this is the reason industry sheets are bright white now.

Not on a cruise, but a colleague had a bed bug incident at a Disney property. Her mother had a sudden strange rash, went to Disney urgent care. Turned out to be bed bugs! Disney comped them, BUT Disney was not very forthcoming, and in an effort to delousing everything, ruined their winter coats.

I just saw a video done by Travel Tips by Lori another long-time You Tuber and she and her husband just encountered them in their bed on an expensive River Cruise in Europe. And from personal experience, I can tell you it is extremely expensive and time consuming to get rid of an infestation.

Never had a problem with the Cruise Ship. But I found Bed Bugs in Hotels twice. A Marriott in New York and a Four Seasons in Hawaii. I am 63, and spent a lot of years traveling. I had a spider bite at a Hyatt in Miami and ants in an Intercontinental hotel in Los Angeles.

My hubs brought home Pharaoh ants when he came back from a business trip in Georgia. We had an exterminator tell us it was only the 3rd recorded case in the state of Ohio. So yes, bugs travel. We think they were brought back on his boot soles as they are not know to get into luggage. Ever since, this was in the very early 2000’s, we akways check beds in rooms and then luggage when we return.

And hotels, and luggage, and airplanes, etc.
Case/point. My elder sister had them, and she rarely traveled outside her condo.
Turned out her flight attendant neighbor, unfortunately, picked them up on 1 of her work trips.
So yeah, check before and always wipe down surfaces, etc.
Edit: A roomba? I will check that out. 💙🚢

On my last NCL cruise our room had a baby roach infestation. We need an accessible cabin and they had no comparable cabin to move us to. We ultimately had to move to a regular cabin, which was very difficult to maneuver with a physical disability. Only reason that cabin was open was someone missed embarkation. Otherwise, they said we would have had to stay in the roach cabin!

I have several health issues and need several plug in’s to charge my medical devices. They don’t all have usb ports most have a regular plug. Not sure what I would need to do in order to keep my medical supplies charged. I’ve always brought 2 non surge extension cords on Royal Caribbean. I don’t cruise again until May 2025 😅. I pray they can get a better plan together by then

    • @CarboneCat

Let them know that you need plugs for your medical supplies. They may probably provide you with their own extension cords as you do have a medical need for these.

Bed bugs were almost eradicated in the US. However, due to new regulations the sprays that were used were outlawed. Bed bugs came up as an issue, I think the late 80's when the Eastern Bloc countries opened up for travel. We had high paying travelers from that area as well as the middle east. The five start hotels in NYC were the first but like all good five-star hotels, they denied. It was not long after that you would get sporadic reports of bed bugs on cruise ships. Not many, but again you had denial. At that time there was not a good insecticide for them. People were told the best thing to do was to not take your clothes into the house but leave them in your car with the windows rolled up. The heat would kill the bugs as well as the eggs. Folks were told to check the bedding when they went into a hotel room or a cruise cabin for signs. It was not a real big problem but still was present at times. Bed bugs are probably like roaches and will always be with us.

    • @Nrustica
      @Nrustica 9 годин тому

If they were eradicated in the USA, couldn't it be possible that they were brought from other countries back into the USA? Your logic about banned insect sprays is a little off.

Never on a cruise ship, but we leased a house once and they were in the master bedroom and the hall way. Oh course you never see the, until you’ve infested. It was extremely difficult to get rid of them. The get in the edges of the carpet, what a nightmare. I would insist on a different state room.

Honestly, bed bugs do give the ‘ick’ factor and since I am a nurse, I do deal with them often in the hospital where I work. However the paranoia surrounding them drives me crazy. At the end of the day, bed bugs do not spread any disease, they are just a nuisance. I would rather deal with bed bug bites than a mosquito bite any day because mosquitoes can spread a multitude of diseases that can be deadly and those diseases are being spread in the US and Caribbean. I’m not saying I like bed bugs, but given the choice I’d much rather bed bugs bites to mosquitoes any day!

We experienced bed bugs on one cruise. Not fun. The cruise line offered another room but we were so close to the end of the cruise when we discovered it we didn't feel the benefit was worth the possibility of spreading the problem. We stayed out of the room all day while housekeeping deep cleaned.
