I love these sorta "advice" videos that he makes which on the surface seem particularly catered to math students but in reality is just wise advice for life in general...
Life is made up of math after all.
I clicked it even if I wasn't studying math.
Nothing new though, all these are common sense the average guy already knows.
A note to myself:
Isolation hampers the potential. Opportunities come with bravery, so sit in the front, raise your hand, ask questions, and don't worry about whether they make sense or seem too simple.
Sitting in the front doesn't mean much. You can participate and be attentive regardless of where you're sitting.

I’ve never been able to study in groups. I need complete isolation and intimacy with the material. Social interaction for me is typically not academic related. Partying, sports, volunteering, etc.
The most difficult part for me is finding the balance of isolation and socializing while being deep in study. I tend to be good at not being in balance.
Woah I needed this video because i have been isolating myself for so long and didnt know whats wrong with me. Thank you wizard❤
You touched on a very important point in this video.
If you want to succeed in a particular field, you MUST become a leader of men.
Being a leader only takes being the example.
It is not about ordering people around or being the alpha at all times, these are the media delusions they feed us.
It is about being the most disciplined in your craft and mentoring others in how to excel in your craft.
This is why it is so important to master yourself.
If you cannot force yourself to be disciplined, no one will ever follow you.
It is the undisciplined who search for leadership and role models.
Show them how it is done and they will follow and help you achieve your vision.
Solid advice as well
When you learn valuable lessons from your mistakes regrets are no longer a thing.
Whatever works for you.
30+ years ago, trying to come to grips with Linear Algebra theorems and proofs in college, "isolation" was the key to learning successfully. The isolation provided opportunity to do a deep dive and FOCUS.
But, one should do what provides the results one desires!
My adhd prevents me from learning in study groups
Yes people should stop viewing this random dude as a sage for everything. He’s just an average math teacher in real life.
Came for the math stayed for the wisdom. Highly appreciate these videos 🙏
I feel like regrets are really important. They make you reassess your path. There's a reason a certain action, or inaction, lingers in your mind.
I think that's generally the case with recurring memories (of all sorts). If there weren't something to learn from them, we wouldn't likely waste precious energy reflecting on them.
Consider it a gift from your mind-an insight into how you might do things differently in the future in a way that benefits you more. Look after yourself; don't deny things that make you unhappy.
I value your honesty.
I like how you own-up to feelings that most students have but choose to keep them hidden.
Thank you.
I honestly dont know wheter i successfully balance isolation and not isolation but im pretty happy with my life right now. Sometimes i study with my friend group sometimes i study alone in my dormitory. Sometime i hangout with my friends and sometimes i stay at my dormitory doing my hobbies.
This is a math channel, but it's also so much more! Thank you for your videos!
You're very welcome!
I love your personality and positive attitude towards life. Thank you for not isolating yourself further. 😊
Completely agree with finding a balance and confidence of asking questions. Yet there’s always the possible struggle that if someone provides clarity on a topic it will not click until hours after…I suppose i should let my peers and professors of this case.
I’m in uni at the moment and this man brings me such joy. I feel so safe when he’s speaking 🥺
Dude you are so awesome, I've been really struggling lately with some things and have been isolating myself, but your words have helped me, thank you. 🙏🔥❤🙌
Hey math sorcerer. I just wanted to know that you’re insanely awesome, and you’ve contributed so much to my love for math even after I’ve graduated college. Thank you for that!
I swear.
I’m so grateful for your channel
Please don’t stop
This is an inspiration for me
You helped me get through math
And hopefully my marks are pleasing
Thank you.
Lol. I'm a 50 year old dude that works from home. The closest thing I have to friends are UA-cam subscriptions.
I’m in my 20s and I work from home too. I actually miss the office lol.
Me too! Let's be friends! 😮

Hey, please, make more videos like this. About life experience, the video of 'It only take two weeks' really changed my life. I am a computer science student and after reconsidering that video and actually putting in the good work. in two weeks I learnt the fundamentals of machine learning and implemented lot of Neural Nets with pytorch, and having zero knowlege in pytorch. I had to learn it. And 15 days are actually so long wen we actually give it a serious try. The 2 weeks rule realy changed my mentality and mindset. And I don't want you to stop posting videos like that. You're helping people more than you thought. Thank you so much.
I am the accessibility specialist at an urban community and technical college. Two of the top keys to student success are connecting with faculty and studying with peers. Almost all faculty have told me that very few students come to office hours. When I was a graduate TA one semester, I did the grading for two courses while the professor lectured. I kept writing "come see me during office hours to get better grades" because the mistakes were so easily correctable. I did not have a single student from either class show up the entire semester and the students who struggled never improved.
One thing’s for sure, as we get older, the circle of friends gets way smaller ; we have to trust and hold on to a few while smiling or peacefully walking away from the rest. It’s important to not isolate one’s self from school through university at least for (your) cognitive development and that’s what I believed in even as a young musician turned scientist-from taking part in every competition, even sport! Going partying, most importantly having conversations even with my teacher colleagues ! All this payed off in retaining what we learned-that’s deep! Today we can still face the world.
it's fitting that this video is uploaded today because today was the first day that I actually wrote something on the blackboard infront of the class after two years of basically doing everything alone. It was the last question on the sheet, functional analysis spectral theory, and the solution that the tutor had found was not enough to proof it. So the tutor asked me to write my answer on the blackboard because I was one of two in the class who had it solved in the correct way (there were only 10 people so it's not that odd). I always thought I was pretty self confident, but surprisingly I found that my hand was trembling quite a bit, and I really didn't think that would happen to me. Contacts make quite a difference, and I gotta admit that the longest time I spent talking to a colleague per week one average (average of the semester) was ten minutes.
That was me. I got diagnosed with autism in my third year. Now, I’m finally reaching out for help. It really changed my academic life.
I have always said that I am the shiest person in almost every room I have ever been in. This surpises people now because I learned to create another persona that I can "wear" in public who can do those things. It took a lot of practice (and acting classes) but finally took hold when I was offered a job that doubled my pay if I could teach, present, and train. Desperation was a big motivation. But when the door closes, I like being alone to think.
Thanks for talking about this. I relate to a lot of what you said (not raising your hand even when confused, being timid, isolating one's self). Looking back on undergrad, I wish I didn't act like a spectator due to self-consciousness, but instead interacted with professors, looked for cool opportunities and such. I'm hoping to do better in the future for the reasons you mention in the video.
Hey math sorcerer I’m a 20 year old who loves watching your videos. You give me a lot of
Hope and have helped me through some tough times. Thank you!
Isolation is the best way to plague your mind
I tried to form one and with an online discord group but no one joined. I even had homework examples of every problem that I made and it even had word explanations of the hardest problems but not a single person joined. That really killed me tbh. I'm not sure if I'll ever try that again. It really hurt that this happened to me. I just didn't want to feel alone all the time.
The video came out great.
I am 45 now and studying for accounting exams.
However, I hardly got anything from study groups
Love your videos I’m a data science major going into my 4th year and u have been there the ride with me thank you for ur time and advice really it’s a amazing
Thank God I learned that early, but still need much more to improve.
working from home actually cuts a bit of the fun, but at least I can garantee time to go to church and study. But I still need to enter on groups or even better, to find the vocation God wants me to focus.
Thank you for the video. I really needed to hear this as a shy math major.
i love your videos you’re also so unintentionally funny btw😭
I am around people and then not around people. If accessible I do not have an issue with studying in groups. I am both ways.
A ‘Math Sorcerer’ discord would be amazing… 🤩
I'm only doing compound lifts
LOL
same
Damn it, am I the only moron who was halfway into a legit gym reply until finally getting this was a pun on the title?
@@WayneDrake-uk1gg despite it being an obvious pun, I would highly appreciate your legit gym reply Sir.
I'm really into some "only compound lifts" mindset for a while. Biggest reason being lack of time, but it turned out that It's way better despite spending 2.5 less time in the gym
@@piotrek3650 personally, I've found very heavy/high intensity/as frequent as possible compound lifts are the best bang for the buck when in a calorie surplus. Rapid improvements in size & strength, but I tend to get banged up/beat down after a few weeks of doing that. From there, I can keep progress going a bit longer by lightening the load and upping the volume (something like German Volume Training). From there, that kind of training can carry me through the beginning of a cut (high volume compound lifts are definitely great cardio as well). But when deep in a cut, there comes a point when compound lifts cease to be "feasible". I mean, when you're starved to the point you can barely stand up off the couch without collapsing, barbell squats ain't happening, so it's nice to be able to just sit on a machine and do leg extensions
soon i'm gonna start college (hopefully) i want to have good memories friends and most importantly i want to be able to look back and be proud of myself unlike high school my high school life was unfortunately full of regrets and at the end when i look back i couldn't managed to learn new things or made a few good friends i just wasted my time in there hopefully this time it is gonna be different i might drop the college if i feel like it was gonna be waste of time like my high school life
Same bro. I think I made the decision to be intentional with my learning late, but hopefully going to be better in college
I feel the same. high school was boring and im looking forward to study in college to gain knowledge and finally to find people who shares similar interestest as me because in high school i felt a bit lonely.
I accept the fact of needing my fellow man. But emotionally i don't have the energy to maintain relationships with others. If no one worked together life would really really suck.
You were a pillar. It's a good thing to be.
Thanks for these videos ♥
Can you make video on exam anxiety, sometimes you are prepared but still you fear uncertanity that something will not go well and due to this I get anxiety before one or two weeks before exam due to which sleep patterns are disturbed and you end up having a bad cognitive performance due to which you mess up in exam.
Thanks so much prof this is really inspiring
I'm so bad at math I isolate myself out of embarrassment. (Sigh) I wish I didn't but I just don't understand...😢
Thank you for this video and all of your content. It helps me a great deal.😅
One does not have to believe in regret in order to find themselves beset with it. To me it's like saying, "I have no fear because I don't believe in it." -It doesn't seem to be a well-formed proposition. Rather, I might submit that individuals able to make statements such as these are likely to be those whom have not yet encountered a trial, either of one's own making or otherwise, so grievous as to lament it's happening and, thus, regretful. -Likewise with fear, if a person has no fear, I have to infer it's because that individual has not yet encountered something so terrifying that it triggered a fear response. To be sure, this is not an indictment; if you are able to live without regret, that's wonderful. Nevertheless, life is so variable and complex, that it is easy, in my mind, to make room for the possibility that other people have regret, and have good cause for it.
If you try to be a leader, it's like saying that you know better what everyone else needs than them. In my experience people already know how to study (they always do better than me), and they don't need my "help".
At the same time, one could isolate and decide to do so in pursuit of improving oneself. It's like the Mayer story. Obsessionally nerds out in his room for 8 years and becomes one of the world's most successful professional guitarists.
Isolating oneself can be quite literally the best thing one can do for oneself. It just depends.
Good video
Thanks ❤
No regrets only learning from mistakes. -grandpa
i’m in highschool, I don’t intentionally isolate myself, I just magically repel people
You're right.
Switching from a philosophy to a math degree I isolated myself in college, one of my biggest regrets because math is actually a very social field of study (even if at times impenetrable!). 😅
I was a mix. All i cared about was high gpa so if I had a question I would ask lecturer in private or someone on course to compare answers. Most of time I was quiet and stayed at back because main interest was just getting to wall street and my interest was not high ti talk about all problems like some who were going into education as a career. My aim was a stepping stone to masters and wall street so just needed a high gpa
Your network is your net worth
I went to a commuter college (no dorms) we had an informal study group at the lunch truck. It just sort of happened. We usually talked about lectures that day (comp sci). Not many proofs
How do you find that balance you were talking about? I have no idea. Whenever I spend time with others I feel guilty I'm not working on myself and my work, when I spend time alone, I feel like being around people.
Please keep hands on the wheel while driving!!! Nothing personal. Just hope that your videos will continue to appear.
If you isolated yourself and/or did anything you don't feel good about doing yesterday...simply just don't do it today or going forward.
I wish i knew this 5 years ago. I didn't learn well because of my isolation.
I am in Trig 1230 at UNM and have a problem, but I cannot find a simple answer. There is no help anywhere and I have nowhere to turn. The question is assume acute angles, solve. sec(18x) = csc(6x). What is 18x? what is 6x? what is it asking me to do. I have no clue what is even being asked of me.
Honestly speaking I never liked studying in Groups,Maybe I should try it more
I had pretty bad mental health when I started uni and never really interacted with the people there except for when I had to during labs. This is very uncharacteristic of me, I was very social in high-school and have friends outside of uni. I also have a gf. Now my mental health is better and I'm about to start my 3rd year but don't know how to break out of it.
(just thinkint out loud here) I'll go into my third year of uni. I'm 26 years old. I have never, ever been in a study group. I would want to! I think it would be benefitial to me specially for Math, but just the idea of reaching out to my classmates and telling them "let's get together in a library every week at the same time and study this" is terrifying to me. It kinda feels like asking for too much.
Yeah I feel the same way as you on that one.
Don't be isolate yourself like a rockstar, and at the same time don't be a rockstar
Lol Im 27 never been to university/college I always feel like I missed huge a part of my youth. Besides my family Im always isolated😂 dont know what to do sometimes
Just go partying like this sage suggesting.
I isolated myself in community college. Was it a good thing to do? No. Would I have made good friendships if I didn't do that? Probably not. Some people need until their mid-late 20s until they stop being crippled by anxiety and fear. Or if they don't want to wait that long, a bunch of meds.
More times than not people know if they will be accepted by others with a reasonable amount if effort if at all
Sir pls tell me which is the best book for graph theory and combinactories
Non, je ne regrette rien… 🎶🙂
Wow. Talk about coincidence. I had a talk with some of my colleagues last night about helping me be more social this coming semester in the fall. I have already wasted 2 years avoiding social events and simply going home right after class. I had realized that this was not helping me grow as a person. I had already wasted my time at community college by not making any meaningful connections and I don't want to have the same regrets in uni. Thank you for making this video. Exactly what I needed to hear 🫡🫡
Ma lei come fa a fare sempre video che sembrano rivolti a me? 😅😊😅😊😅 lei è un genio! 😇😊😇😊😇
I am 38, I work from home and had recently started learning calculas as a hobby. I am enjoying it but sometimes I feel kind of isolated because of the lack of social interaction in my life. Can anyone suggest how to make some serious study partners online?

You are a very optimistic person every time I watch your advice videos I understand how much of a thoughtful person you are,I would like to recommend you a book,it’s a religious book I think you would love it it’s called “Quran” I hope you read it then give us a review.
dear great math sorcerer, how to find zero of x^2+5x+6
you factor...(x+2)(x+3) therefore the zeroes are negative two and negative three.
X=-2,-3
I m pretty sure
Yuop or you can use formula (-b±√b²+4ac)/2a. For any quadratic equation ax²+bx+c
@@ayushmanbehera6831 that's true but this polynomial i've seen countless times, so i immediately see (x+2)(x+3).
Anyone with Discord want to work through a calculus 2 course in tandem?
Just tell me why on Earth should I waste my time to learn math?
This is a question you should answer yourself. The rewards are there!
Matt, the day you can answer this question, you'll have found something good. Keep searching and good luck!
Whatever “rewards” people claims is basically just a spike of dopamine level in your body after solving a difficult problem. You’d be better off going to the gym or even doing crosswords on a newspaper.
I am not isolating, they are isolating me.
Agreed
they are shutting people down and using man made external barriers to thwart people.
fix yourself then

I can certainly assure you i am just so much lonely from inside
The only things that are keeping me alive at the moment are electricity and mathematics

I just can't become social with anyone, its just impossible for me
