Ed Neumeister is a grand contributor to the music world, especially jazz. His recordings are studied by musicians all over the world. He is generous and inspiring.

I think you might be one of the few who might be able to understand "perfectionism". After all, how can you get into the zone, when you know it just isn't right? You'll just be constantly distracted, with all the imperfections. That's when music turns into noise. Avoiding noise/flaws is what perfectionism is all about. Without it, it's just like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I don't like how you can hear the sound from the mic by his face. It kind of ruins his sound. Makes it sound airy.

Agreed, those kind of mics are really bad for wind instruments, they interfere with the sound, probably even phase out some of the tone as well as getting the 'leakage' that many horn players have but is normally too soft to hear.
Also, most of the horn clips I've seen on TED have been overdriven and distort.
