One of the best Terminator fan films out there. The narrator sounds a bit like Laurence Fishburne! Very well told story, suspenseful, and filled with slick CGI that I have no idea how to do. Favorite shot was the Terminator's feet as it approached the shack, and the light streaming through the bullet holes. Really excellent stuff, and proof that one does not need a huge budget to do these kinds of movies.
This was amazing. I've always wanted a terminator movie set in the future, with settings like Reese's dreams from the original film and the opening sequence of T2.
Awesome work, as always. Incredible visuals, especially in the opening. Music is epic, great camerawork, and I was impressed with the terminator model. Pretty well acted and well paced, this is an excellent piece. I can only imagine what you guys could do with a budget!

I am a true fan of the original 2 movies. I can stomach parts 3 & 4 as well. Part 5 was just horrible! (I am a HUGE Emilia Clarke fan too, so this hurts to admit)... I must say though, this fan film is what The Termintor is all about. It's nothing fancy. It's man vs machine. Well done guys!
There is nothing wrong with The Rise of the Machines. I thought the idea of the terminatrix killing the future lieutenants was a good idea, along with her controlling the vehicles using nanobots.
I enjoyed it as a no budget short film! The issue I did have was the woman twisting her ankle on flat ground, just to create the opportunity the Terminator to catch up. If she had stumbled on some loose rocks etc, the motivation for the fall would have been that much better. Overall though, the vibe and style was well embraced. Good job to you all!
Probably still the best fan made Terminator film I have seen. The T-800 model looks a little cheap around the skull (especially the eyes). In some scenes, it kinda looks cross-eyed. Still, the actual movement animations are fluid and very believable! Special effects aside, I would only critique the method with which the terminator was taken down. Near the end of The Terminator (1984), the T-800 took a direct hit to the head from an 18-wheeler, got up, killed the driver, stole the rig & used it to try and run his targets down.

I'd love to help with sound design for a future project. I have a lot of analog synthesizer equipment and have been tremendously influenced by Brad Fiedel's score for the first film.
I really enjoyed this short film. What would've made the T800 more creepy is have the endoskeleton partially covered in residue of what was once human flesh that was previously blown off by a blast

madeLEGITmedia overcrank is to shoot with a higher frame rate, then slow down to back to 24fps. Obviously you would need to speed models movementson set in order for the timing to be correct once slowed back down but if done right it helps give scale models more 'visual weight'. It can also be used on lifesize props like your t800. Also try something like alclad chrome for the t800 then dirty him up. Please do the series. Maybe 20 min episodes Was this gh4?
tbip2001 Oh yeah! We did that for the Hunter Killer model cause it was only about a foot long. Didn't think about trying it for the t-800. Now I know the technical term for it! We'll hopefully start a Kickstarter for a 4-5 part web series, about 15-20min each. We actually filmed this on the Canon t3i (before I got my GH4)!
Maybe focus on the story of getting kyle reese to the time machine and all the planning and headache that would cause. Would love to work on that series with you, but im UK. check out some of prop work at r-9.org.uk

Litterally just saw this after watching the new Terminator. Awesome job. The VFX great, The model of the terminator wasn't perfect but still preferable to a 3D model, which would have been a pain to light xD Anyway, most importantly - you guys nailed the tone of the Terminator films: dark, distopic and epic :)

+John Riddle how did you frame it so it was sturdy? Mine is made of metal, wood and plastic. I might remove the head, and replace it with the cardboard.
+Jack Turner pvc pipe framing..then i built everything around it. think simple puppet techniques. the arms had rods comin out of the elbows...thats how i was able to move the so freely

+Sketch It D.I.Y close...drilled holes and had toilet paper tubes glued behind each hole, filled thd holes with saw dust and hit it with a leaf blower from behind. some vfx were added to finish the shot

I like this practical effects make more sense it looks like a robot is actually there instead of crappy CGI and it pays homage to the original movies

We actually have thought about doing a web series! Focusing on the survivors and what not. What do you mean by "overcrank"?

The robots feet were made from pvc pipes, cardboard tubes, wooden rods and ping pong balls

Don't exaggerate. For a fan film it is brilliant but you cannot possibly justify it being better than a full feature length film.

it was made from carfboard and foam, the head was from 1:1 kit found on ebay, led eyes from radio shack... making of vid on my old channel "jrlzzle"
